There were those times where I was theoretically losing thousands of potential dollars to gambling and bans and would just feel SICK afterwards. It was a fucking wild ride. Lol

I always hated the duel arena. I think it also helps that I played back during the days when the game wasnt about money and was about having fun with your friends. When castle wars was packed 24/7 and every world was maxed out and almost impossible to get into. Before bots ruined almost every aspect of the game. If you never got to play Runescape in 2005-2007 then you will have a different perspective on the game than I do, but I still remember wasting hours every day just running around and training my skills in very inefficient but fun ways. Talking with tons of strangers having fun on the game alongside me.
We would still have the damn dule Arena probably. Dule arena haters can sugma. If you wanna ruin ur life on a game that's on you not the game. Still pissed about the removal.
So fucking happy I had my epiphany moment young enough (and harmless enough) to know I have a problem. My thing was crates (CSGO, TF2, OW, etc.) Probably lost about 2 grand back between 2010-2012 opening boxes. When OW first came out and had the Olympics event, I really wanted the Tracer skin (this was before you could craft them.) Lost about 300 bucks in 30 minutes, hit the skin. The dopamine lasted all of 15 minutes before it hit me what happened. Clean since then, happy to say I realized I had a problem. Really wish some of these people could have that "Aha!" moment before they go in deeper then that, cause what I lost is peanuts compared to some of this stuff.
Reminds me of when CSGO gambling sites were huge. I never lost anything to them but I do remember gambling with the free 50 cents they gave you for putting their site in your steam name all the way up to like 160$ just going all in on blackjack over and over. Took out a few nice skins and said goodbye to those sites forever. Happy to have ripped them off a little for all they did to the community.

Also, it’s illegal to gamble on these websites in the US so he literally moved to Canada so that he could keep doing the gambling streams and so he wouldn’t have to worry about getting in trouble with law enforcement in the US… it just goes to show you how profitable it can be to do things like this that he would immigrate to another country to continue to do these things.

See he's been at this for so long and he just stopped giving a fuck because why should he? Twitch can't get rid of him because he's one of their top performers and he brings in crazy amounts of money for them. He moved to Canada just to avoid the US government agencies from arresting him for illegally advertising gambling websites (which are illegal themselves). The funny thing is that Twitch is an American company and they advertise these gambling streams all the time, they even advertise their own version of gambling but it's all made legal because it's all online. Train wouldn't give a damn if he got banned on Twitch anyway because literally any other platform would pay him millions to gamble on their platform despite the fact that his numbers are nowhere near as impressive as other streamers, he still has a large audience that would move over to that platform and they could make enough money from having him on to pay off the millions they're paying him within just a few streams. Facebook sells users data (even had to admit to it after giving it to the CIA) and sells ad spots throughout their apps and website, TH-cam (Google) does something similar where they get to advertise on the videos themselves while the creator doesn't see a dime from it.

Over the 15 years I've played I've probably lost around 80bil It's turned me into a whale in other games, but on RS I just play an iron so I can't gamble anymore. You can't necessarily tell if someone is lying just on those factors. You would need to know what their normal behavior is like. That effect probably doesn't take neurodivergent people into account. Who are commonly prone to fidgeting, stimming (such as touching their face, clothes, arms, etc), or frequently changing eye movement (especially not giving eye contact to who they're speaking to). The effect may work better if you know the person you're talking to is neurotypical. I don't know, but none of this is conclusive evidence and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
He probably was correct in this instance but you are 100% right about this. That's honestly something I worry about someone misunderstanding as I do a few of those when nervous/uncomfortable myself without lying or doing anything wrong.

This is a huge problem in our world now even before lockdowns became a thing. The vast publicity and attention a “streamer” gets is unhealthy and ruins not only the streamers life view. But each young person that wants that same life gets stuck in that mindset, refuses to get a job and now we have this vast society of “work from home” wannabes that aren’t doing anything good for anyone. Not to mention picking up habits like gambling or subscribing to things like onlyfans, etc. The world is a money hungry place, and they’ll stop at nothing to get yours. I really like this episode. A lesson about gambling. Gambling is fun, and doing drugs are fun. There's no way to stop it. But there is way to stop spreading it.. I got hardcore into gambling at the duel arena when I was about 19-20. I’m glad I got cleaned quickly and didn’t get wrapped up into gambling. I went from 100m to 700m in 3 days, and then got cleaned 2 weeks later before I ever got any value out of it. I think this was a major turning point in my life, especially learning about my personal relationship with gambling and why it’s just not healthy for me.
I always love that Return of Wildy clip because it's clear they're clueless. RS accounts aren't vulnerable if you have a secure password, 2fa on both email and account (as everyone should for literally every account) and a bank pin. It's the reason I didn't censor my username when I post pics of my bank.

I suffered from gambling on online casinos which I believe stemmed from staking on runescape. Self exclusion and deposit limits were what helped me from getting into debt. Why can't runescape give you a option of opting out of the duel arena or setting limits like actual online casinos. Just a thought!
Noah talking about how gambling made life really hit home back to the days right before EOC I was a flower host only months after discovering the little activity on my skiller and funded lots of buyables and fashion scape items. But I relate so much to when he said he just didn’t wanna watch sports ect. Like losing money on the game especially when gambling just does something mentally that makes you feel like crap. I don't understand Jagex. If they care so much about real world traders and ban them then why do they bother to keep the dueling arena open because that's just going to fuel real world trading. Seems like bullshit honestly. I kind of wish they took out the dueling arena or at least made some restrictions where you can only risk so much in a day. Or something. It's getting to the point where things are becoming ridiculous. Even Jagex denying that their games aren't gambling which is a lie. I'm glad I never really risked at the dueling arena. If you're going to risk have a minimum to risk and do it with people who actually aren't going to scam you. You'll have more fun that way. Also, just get in game gold yourself for you don't need to spend 1000s of dollars.
There is also the possibility of randoms impostering the streamer by adding "wishes" at the end. It may not automatically mean the streamer is attempting to scam, although there is certainly the existence of that possibility.
As someone who has been playing since 2007 but stopped for 4+ years, I think it is so fascinating how deep osrs goes…like those of us who were in our early teens in 2007 were SO affected by this game… I thank god that my family pressured me into school because now I’m about to get a PhD in biomedical science. If it wasn’t for school, I think I’d be one of these people who is in their late 20s with zero life skills spending literally 6+ hours a day playing a video game trying to scam / cheat people out of their money. It’s crazy what a video game can do to people. When gambling comes into play, the effect becomes exponentially worse.

I watched a vid that Train put out a day or two after this conversation and he basically said he wasn’t doing anything wrong, that there’s a group of people who just have it our for him and that they put Ethan up to this. He takes no responsibility but not only that he actually believes unironically that he’s the good guy in this situation.
I really believe that he’s a narcissist/sociopath. He always does borderline content like this and every single time without fail he claims that he’s not doing anything wrong and people are just out to get him. He never self reflects; h never takes responsibility and he always shifts the blame without fail. He’s one of the most dangerous kinds of people in my opinion, but those traits also allow him to be massively successful in this system that is designed to allow people like him with no remorse and no self awareness to take advantage of other.
Also, it’s illegal to gamble on these websites in the US so he literally moved to Canada so that he could keep doing the gambling streams and so he wouldn’t have to worry about getting in trouble with law enforcement in the US… it just goes to show you how profitable it can be to do things like this that he would immigrate to another country to continue to do these things.
I'm late to the party but I want to say I agree with this entire statement. However, he's not just a narcissist (I don't think he's a sociopath, he's just an uneducated moron) but he's also a very rich selfish prick. See he's been at this for so long and he just stopped giving a fuck because why should he? Twitch can't get rid of him because he's one of their top performers and he brings in crazy amounts of money for them. He moved to Canada just to avoid the US government agencies from arresting him for illegally advertising gambling websites (which are illegal themselves). The funny thing is that Twitch is an American company and they advertise these gambling streams all the time, they even advertise their own version of gambling but it's all made legal because it's all online.
Train wouldn't give a damn if he got banned on Twitch anyway because literally any other platform would pay him millions to gamble on their platform despite the fact that his numbers are nowhere near as impressive as other streamers, he still has a large audience that would move over to that platform and they could make enough money from having him on to pay off the millions they're paying him within just a few streams. Facebook sells users data (even had to admit to it after giving it to the CIA) and sells ad spots throughout their apps and website, TH-cam (Google) does something similar where they get to advertise on the videos themselves while the creator doesn't see a dime from it.

You can't necessarily tell if someone is lying just on those factors. You would need to know what their normal behavior is like. That effect probably doesn't take neurodivergent people into account. Who are commonly prone to fidgeting, stimming (such as touching their face, clothes, arms, etc), or frequently changing eye movement (especially not giving eye contact to who they're speaking to). The effect may work better if you know the person you're talking to is neurotypical. I don't know, but none of this is conclusive evidence and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
He probably was correct in this instance but you are 100% right about this. That's honestly something I worry about someone misunderstanding as I do a few of those when nervous/uncomfortable myself without lying or doing anything wrong.

This is a huge problem in our world now even before lockdowns became a thing. The vast publicity and attention a “streamer” gets is unhealthy and ruins not only the streamers life view. But each young person that wants that same life gets stuck in that mindset, refuses to get a job and now we have this vast society of “work from home” wannabes that aren’t doing anything good for anyone. Not to mention picking up habits like gambling or subscribing to things like onlyfans, etc. The world is a money hungry place, and they’ll stop at nothing to get yours.

I really like this episode. A lesson about gambling. Gambling is fun, and doing drugs are fun. There's no way to stop it. But there is way to stop spreading it.. There's should be more videos on lessons why gambling is bad. And what happens to the people that lose their wealth. Some suicide, some anger, some broke..etc..
I'm a recovering drug addict/alcoholic, but never had a gambling problem. Its absolutely bone chilling how similar these addictions can become, even to the point where gambling addicts have physical symptoms depending on how long its been since they've gambled or how little, etc.. I got hardcore into gambling at the duel arena when I was about 19-20.
I’m glad I got cleaned quickly and didn’t get wrapped up into gambling. I went from 100m to 700m in 3 days, and then got cleaned 2 weeks later before I ever got any value out of it.
I think this was a major turning point in my life, especially learning about my personal relationship with gambling and why it’s just not healthy for me.
I always love that Return of Wildy clip because it's clear they're clueless. I suffered from gambling on online casinos which I believe stemmed from staking on runescape. Self exclusion and deposit limits were what helped me from getting into debt. Why can't runescape give you a option of opting out of the duel arena or setting limits like actual online casinos. Just a thought!

Noah talking about how gambling made life really hit home back to the days right before EOC I was a flower host only months after discovering the little activity on my skiller and funded lots of buyables and fashion scape items. But I relate so much to when he said he just didn’t wanna watch sports ect. Like losing money on the game especially when gambling just does something mentally that makes you feel like crap. And then at the same time makes you just go against better judgement and go again and again even if you’ve lost 500m and it’s really upsetting. Literally weeks would go by where I was just depressed in real life because I lost 1b or 2b or whatever it was and I could have prevented that not playing or not gambling. Crazy times.

I don't understand Jagex. If they care so much about real world traders and ban them then why do they bother to keep the dueling arena open because that's just going to fuel real world trading. Seems like bullshit honestly. I kind of wish they took out the dueling arena or at least made some restrictions where you can only risk so much in a day. Or something. It's getting to the point where things are becoming ridiculous. Even Jagex denying that their games aren't gambling which is a lie. I'm glad I never really risked at the dueling arena. If you're going to risk have a minimum to risk and do it with people who actually aren't going to scam you. You'll have more fun that way. Also, just get in game gold yourself for you don't need to spend 1000s of dollars.

There is also the possibility of randoms impostering the streamer by adding "wishes" at the end. It may not automatically mean the streamer is attempting to scam, although there is certainly the existence of that possibility.

As someone who has been playing since 2007 but stopped for 4+ years, I think it is so fascinating how deep osrs goes…like those of us who were in our early teens in 2007 were SO affected by this game… I thank god that my family pressured me into school because now I’m about to get a PhD in biomedical science. If it wasn’t for school, I think I’d be one of these people who is in their late 20s with zero life skills spending literally 6+ hours a day playing a video game trying to scam / cheat people out of their money. It’s crazy what a video game can do to people. When gambling comes into play, the effect becomes exponentially worse.
