    Star Realms: Rise of Empire is a new standalone pre-quel to the popular Star Realm series game with 141 cards, and a 12-game legacy scenario campaign. Rise of Empire introduces three brand new factions: the Consortium, the Scavengers, and the Kingdom. Rise of Empire will take players on an epic adventure over the course of 12 scenarios where players will permanently alter the market deck cards while tracking their battle wins and losses. Players will compete to achieve various objectives, earning them Campaign Victory Points and unlocking the secrets of the worlds around them. Rise of Empire can be played stand-alone or combined with all previous Star Realms content after you’ve finished the campaign.

    5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
    4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
    4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
    3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
    3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
    2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
    2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
    1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
    1.0 - A game that is just bad.

    SR is fine, I never felt the need to own more than the base deck. I'm sure there are die hard fans who are really happy for this.

    I enjoy playing the base SR app on my phone, often when I’m waiting, etc.

    I remember enjoying the iOS app several years ago, but it's not something I'm raring to jump on. But, it's definitely something I have my eye on.

    I really like the idea they advertise of a legacy add on for the base legacy game that allows a reset to play the whole story all over again.

    I will chime in and say that shards of infinity killed both star realms and hero realms for me. Shards even has a campaign mode where your starting deck changes between games. Granted, this campaign mode is not as ambitious as the one here in star realms rise of the empire, but it’s all the game needs.

    "Star Realms is a game I would rate 4/5"...filter's reviews on star Realms and observes the original rating 4 with a current rating of 3... uh..so how long is the 4 rating going to stick on Rise of an Empire? How did your rating fall from 4 to 3 if you are so certain now that the rating was still a 4? Ugh these subscribers are killing me... lol.

    If it’s not actually a review of final product, why label it as such?

    • @BoardGameCo
      @BoardGameCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's still a review with opinions, but tempered with knowledge that it's not final.

    • @mikedunn6256
      @mikedunn6256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoardGameCo why would you call that a review, then? If it’s not the final product, it should be a preview. Seems disingenuous

    • @BoardGameCo

      @@mikedunn6256 Based on what? What definitions of preview and review are you using?

    • @mikedunn6256
      @mikedunn6256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoardGameCo simple:
      A preview is impressions of an unfinished product. If it is a prototype, it's a preview. If there is any part of that that isn't the final retail version that hits shelves, it isn't a finished product yet. There are many, many things that change from prototype to final product, it doesn't have to be rules or even art- the box design, component design, cardstock, etc, all of this can change based on several factors, and ultimately can impact the experience of the game. Opinions still have a place, but they should come with the caveat that it is un unfinished product and could change before manufacture.
      A review is strictly opinion driven and those opinions are of a complete, finished product. I personally feel that it is vital for a review to be of the exact experience that the buyer gets when they purchase the game, largely because they may have based their purchase in whole or in part on -your review-
      This distinction, in my opinion, is crucial, and the line between the two is very muddy on the tabletop side of things, wheras with video games or other enthusiast media it is very distinct.

      @yamahkogribbis6212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mikedunn6256 I find it fascinating that you have come up with very distinct definitions to determine the difference between what can be labeled as review versus what can be labeled as preview. Sadly, the definitions you've decided upon are not necessarily universally accepted as such. When I see this particular video, I see Alex reviewing mechanics as well as previewing what to expect with the legacy concept. What you assert is disingenuous is perhaps just semantics.

    Shards of Infinity kills Star Realms for me. Bigger decision space, more interesting combos with mercenary cards and "power" level ;)

    • @ryanh7844
      @ryanh7844 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there is room for both. Star Realms may be a simpler game compared to Shards of Infinity but the themes are very different. I prefer the sci-fi militaristic universe of Star Realms and the unique factions fighting for control of "Authority" in the sector.

    • @madebyhman7996
      @madebyhman7996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryanh7844 Only reason I haven’t sold my copies of star realms and colony wars is that they don’t take up any shelf space, but I won’t play them. Shards is just a way better iteration of the same game, so for me the different themes don’t justify getting them both. Cause let’s be honest - any theme could be plastered onto this game. There is a reason we have 3 themings of the same game.

      @@madebyhman7996 Hey to each their own. The theme for Star Realms just fits for me. I have seen the artwork for Shards of Infinity and didn't like it. I'm sure someone would be happy to own your copy of Star Realms if/when you decide to sell it.

    I do not understand why this company is running a kickstarter for this, as it is not the first game they are making. They have the profits to be able to pay for this and release it. This is a greedy move. I love star realms but won't be supporting this kickstarter (maybe will buy the retail release later on).

  • @mabos555
    @mabos555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hate star realms, love hero realms.
    I know that they are same games but they are not.
    First, the lack of theme in star realms bugs me a lot - recycle bots, space ships and space stations each card is one of those. Mehhh
    So adding stickers won't change the fact that there is no theme to it.
    Hero realms? Better game, campaign is decent, characters are unique, level up the abilities is amazing, you buy cards that are more themed : vampire and deamons, dragons and knights, ogers wolves etc it's more fun and unique.
    Let's not even talk about the chatholo realms which is the most terrible realms game they offered.
    So overall? Not hyped for the legacy train, in fact I've never played a legcay game in against this idea of ruining a game

    Would never kickstart another game from these guys after the star realms foil deluxe debacle. No one has gotten them long overdue and all they had to do was print art they had with foil. It seems like the company runs a Kickstarter to finish paying production on a previous Kickstarter...like a Ponzi. Woe to the supporters of the last Kickstarter they run.
