Nice boat! The bit at the 2:50 mark made me think: "The look on your face when you think you're fast, then someone goes by you like you're tied to a post!" Very sweet. Looks like a blast
The thru swim deck silencers is a slick idea! They could also be used to put a bit of air to the props coming up on plane. 540's and surface drives is a awesome combo! Although its an investment, the pay off on the water is worth every penny in smiles. Ive been thinking of doing this same upfit for years on my boat. My hats off to ya jeff!
What boat do you have? It's a lot of work, but rewarding doing it yourself! The thru swim deck silencers are a necessary evil where I boat... the downside to big NA engines is that they tend to revert water, so mine are dry to the tip... I can't run internal diverters. Eventually I might put a different swim platform on it and mount it over the exhaust, but 32ATs are setup up high and I do like that when backing up I don't have to worry about ingesting water.
I Have a Formula 292SR-1 30'. It has 2 454 Mags and Bravo's. Cam, head work, Inconel valves, MSD, risers, ect. Roughtly 400horse each. Couple of years ago I priced a couple of 540's Id love to have them but a little rich for my blood. Oh id certainly do it myself, that way I know how to work on it. Yea up there you cant offend anyone with loud exhaust. Luckily we don't have that issue down here. Ingestion is always a very real concern. that's why I run internal dividers 1/2 way to elbows as well as tip flappers. Aren't they all a work in progress!
Beautiful boat , great drone footage of those arnison surface drives clever props chopping the surface , I think I've seen your boat in muskegon channel
One of my favorite boats ! Perfect size. You spent some serious coin on the overhaul. I've often wondered how arnesons would work on a V. The boat looks really settled and running well. If you're making 650hp a side, you've got to be close to 90 , or a little better, i would think. The arnie's have transmissions, right ?
I run 5blades that are 17.75" x 34p x 18 rake @ 900hp. Probably overkill and slower with the 900hp, but i know plenty of people that have thrown blades getting every last mph
I like through hull exhaust pipes to show on a speedboat, that's what I grew up with, but if one must have a swim platform they should be under the platform. The Arneson's don't look like they allow they allow through hull exhaust under a swim platform and pipes over a platform look weird to me. Now, besides that..these Arneson driver and your new 540 engines seem to pair nicely and that boat really has new speed.
I hear you... i plan to build a new platform in the next couple years to put them underneath without cutting the boat up. Over the platform is a trait of 32 Active Thunders and some Powerplays. Functionally its way safer for water ingestion/reversion on big cam engines like this. Not great for swimming (but the arnesons and cleaver props aren't either). Just a tradeoff for now.
@@JeffTibbe right. As a kid (in the mid 1980’s) I was always afraid of my feet or legs or my friends hitting their feet on our Wellcraft props coming out of the water after swimming. Of course it never happened.
Thanks, while I can appreciate SC/turbo setups, most marine engines live way longer without them. My power goal was 650-700hp with 500 hour top ends and 1000 hour bottom ends. The drives were added to get the most efficiency without failing (it was really my only option). So far that is bearing out since the engines were built in 2007. The other issue is on a 32' boat, unless I stuck with the same power goals, bumping the power up to 1000hp+ is a recipe to overpower the boat - keeping in mind I only run on Lake Michigan. I also believe there's something to be said for the roar and efficiency of a high compression N/A engine.
Jeff Tibbe I hear you. The work is awesome and your explanation is right on. The boat is beautiful and the sound is the best I have ever heard. I also love how you put down tubes with actuator to muffle sound if you wanted to. The only mod you could still make would be ram air scoops to bring in cooler air to carburetor. All In all, beautiful boat and VERY nice upgrades.
Im curious about which type hull is faster in mainly calm water, a tunnel skater type or a vhull? Say both are 25 to 35ft long with the same horsepower, thanks
A v-hall is definitely faster and will handle better in rough water choppy conditions .. A catamaran is only faster and conditions suitable for barefoot waterskiing perfect flat calm
@@dieseldog00 I have been asking that job question for over 5 years and not one person with a go fast has ever given me an answer. So I just keep asking lol

I had a Fountain with twin KB blown hemis with Mr Arnesons drives he donated for my repower of a prototype Fountain I was fortunate to obtain. Took a whole weeks paycheck with overtime from my trades job to go out off Pentwater for 3 1/2-4 hours

Gorgeous boat how fast that thing going runs real nice.
Wow you dropped a lot of coin right there. Beautiful work
Freaking radical. A truly terrifying boat ride. Well done
I remembered the Older model ASD-7 that was made of bronze and not Aluminium mounted to a old Cat. That 35 yr old boat still has the original ASD7s!
They are available in both materials.
Super nice build!
just the sound of that boat made me drool OMG Beautiful !!!!!
Wouahhhh....quel son ! Et quel magnifique bateau ! The sound is splendid ! I love it, thank you for this video ! ;-)
What a boat looks really fun and it was running along side the catamaran interesting.
Now that's how you take a sleek pleasure boat and convert it into an offshore powerboat raceboat!

Thank you, Jim! Yes, we've been in Muskegon many times.
Beautiful boat nice build.
Must say this fits my criteria of the perfect boat. Not too small not too big and can hang with the big boys
Awesome how fast is that running!

In the process of doing this to a very similar boat and I'm wondering with the 1.56 what props ended up working the best?

Looks like Whitehall. Nice boat.
Is it possible that the engines get out of the water completely and then you constantly have yo regulate
Jeff,
Are they hiring where you work?
Outstanding upgrades, however, if I was spending your money why not take the motors to the finish line with either turbo or SC?

The sound of those engines, my god. If the dictionary had .wav files in it your engines would be in there for definition.
how much the surface drives ? thinking of doing them
Around 55k a pair, last time I talked to Rik.
That's beautiful WOW nice work ,,,is it for sale yet ??
Awesome just awesome!

A Skater - cat type hull will always be faster. There are definitely pro's and con's that go with owning each type of boat though.

Pentwater michigan ?
The drone footage was Pentwater. Most of the footage (like the chopper footage) was part of West Michigan Offshore runs between Holland and Muskegon.
