I helped clean up after Moore, and it was horrible, houses just flattened. What people also forget is that the Moore OK tornado and the El Reno tornados were only 11 days apart and happens in the same general area. Crazy stuff.
I don't forget this. When people compare the tornadoes that struck Moore, Oklahoma on both May 3rd, 1999 and May 20th, 2013; they tend to consider the tornado on May 20th to be a second act to May 3rd. Residents of Moore who survived May 3rd, 1999 were saying that they "couldn't believe it happened again" following the tornado on May 20th, 2013. May 3rd takes the cake in terms of scariness due to the high wind speeds and the fact that it went through a densely populated area. May 20th takes the cake in terms of heartbreak due to the fact that seven children lost their lives at Plaza Towers Elementary School.

Oh man you ever get a chance to read about that natural disaster and it's aftermath you will not ever forget it. Japan suffered a series of natural disasters that all struck at the same time. Beginning with the 1923 earthquake on September 1st. It struck at lunchtime, a magnitude of 7.9 causing intense amount of damage. In addition to that it generated 10m high tsunamis. It also broke most the city's water mains. To make matters worse a typhoon centered off the coast of Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture brought high winds to Tokyo Bay at about the same time as the earthquake. These winds caused fires to spread rapidly. The fires became intense firestorms and the entire city of Tokyo burned for two entire days. That fire whirl grew out from the firestorms and the typhoon winds and headed to downtown Tokyo. Where it reached the Rikugun Honjo Hifukusho (formerly the Army Clothing Depot) where about 38,000 people were incinerated after taking shelter there following the earthquake. The entire building was engulfed by the fire whirl and burned to the ground in mere minutes. the many aftershocks and there were many (57 in total) caused many landslides. A collapsing mountainside in the village of Nebukawa, west of Odawara, pushed the entire village and a passenger train carrying over 100 passengers, along with the railway station, into the sea. Speaking of the sea, the earthquake made it so difficult to navigate that thousands of kilometers away in the western coast of the US, the US Navy lost 23 lives and ran 7 destroyers aground. The aftermath of the earthquake was just as bad, imperial Japan increased its racist policies against the Koreans and Non-Japanese Asians. Tensions already being high before the disaster with most Koreans demanding a free and independent Korea. Causing huge up swings of vigilante justice and violence. Upwards of 10,000 Koreans died to mob violence alone. And a further 12,000 were put into protective custody in camps. Finally there was an outbreak of typhoid fever. An explanation is the decline of waste disposal, which became particularly serious in the northern and western districts when traditional methods of waste disposal collapsed due to urbanization. The 1923 earthquake led to record-high morbidity due to unsanitary conditions following the earthquake. Put simply those who survived it considered it to be a sign of divine judgement

Wait a minute By one minute, the first tornado looks like a toothpick , but that tornado was big to a human. So if we were still looking at tornadoes on earth by that time- OH GOD LOCK THE DOORS AND GRAB THE ORANGE JUICE jeez I was cringworthy back then
Size comparison on this video is dreadful. All Tornadoes end up being about the same height. It's when it becomes a wedge. That's when you know it's a monster.
Although tornadoes are hazardous yet my friends in US even sometimes play and come closer to the biggest tornado. When the tornado comes about, they are accustomed to playing and walking around it.
Yes, it’s terrifying to think of the fact that El Reno, the BIGGEST tornado to take part on earth, was only 5 years ago. I’m just waiting for something else to take the throne soon.
Ok I think I need to make this perfectly clear. The reason fire whirls don't hold the tornado death record is because THEY ARE NOT TORNADOES BY DEFINITION. Its the same thing with waterspouts and dust devils. They only look like tornadoes. They are not real tornadoes.
Luca Mario there is a famous saying. "Its better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're stupid rather than opening it and proving them right." I never said waterspouts are not real. I simply said that by definition they are not TORNADOES. Waterspouts do exist and I have actually seen a few (saw one while on vacation at a beach). Maybe if you actually read my comment rather than glance at one small part you would not sound like such an idiot.
Little Kimmy dust is essentially wind carried off by more wind and if that Wind is powerful enough it will collaborate with other elements such as water or fire and create more devastating Tornadoes. Fire tornadoes.. Waterspouts. Do your research.
Shadow Knight the only one here who needs to do research is you. A tornado is a vortex of downward rotating winds advancing beneath a large and violent storm system. Fire whirls form from rising heat generally in wildfires. Waterspouts form from warm temperatures in high humidity environments causing air to rise similar to hurricanes but on a much smaller scale. Do you see the difference yet? A tornado develops by rotating downwards from a severe thunderstorm while fire whirls and waterspouts mostly form in clear conditions rotating upwards. I make my claim again, By definition fire whirls and waterspouts *ARE NOT* tornadoes. Now if you were talking about a TORNADIC waterspout or a tornadic fire whirl that is a different story. However those are rare and not seen very often.

Kind of weird that no one remembers the Hallam, Nebraska tornado considering it not only destroyed the tiny town completely, but was the largest tornado before the El Reno one at 2.5 miles wide. Just days before the El Reno tornado Nebraska held the record for fastest tornadoes with the twins that spawned in Madison county and the Hallam Tornado being the largest on earth at the time…
Y'know, the Jupiter Red Eye is already terrifying enough since you can fit three Earths in it, but then you just had to pull out a Solar Tornado on us and make us feel even smaller and even more insignificant so kudos to you :U
Yeah, some exoplanets have winds that while not necessarily large in size are ridiculously fast, fast enough to go around the Earth in less than 4 hours that is.

Tornados are my most feared part of nature, right below the ocean depths (pretty severe case of thassolophobia), there’s something terrifying about seeing that funnel cloud form, and start moving, sometimes moving toward you…
🚨🌫🚨
supervolcanoes although far far far far far far FAR less likely to happen, would be a lot scarier, even if one of them erupts it would put the earth in an ice age after the catastrophic events from the initial eruption blast to the ashes covering thousands of miles of land and water from the eruption point

Lol😇😇😇
wait wasn't the largest one in japan?
Ok I think I need to make this perfectly clear.
The reason fire whirls don't hold the tornado death record is because THEY ARE NOT TORNADOES BY DEFINITION. Its the same thing with waterspouts and dust devils. They only look like tornadoes. They are not real tornadoes.
And the same thing with steam whirls.
Little Kimmy waterspouts are real so stop being dumb
Luca Mario there is a famous saying. "Its better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're stupid rather than opening it and proving them right."
I never said waterspouts are not real.
Am i the only one thinks that they are dancing?
