The Midstate Massive - Winning my First 100 Mile Race!

  • The experience of a lifetime. This race is one I will never forget. I ended up winning with a time of 19 hours 47 minutes which is good for an 11:44 minute per mile pace. There was 14,000ft of elevation gain in this race.
    There was rain, mud, roots, rocks, pop tarts, chicken burritos, two poop breaks, and a whole lot of smiles. I would not change a single thing about how this race went down. It has opened the door to so many more possibilities for me.
    Shoutout to my man James Otto for crewing me - this would have been a different story without him.

    I am blown away by this video. He did a full send in $hitty conditions with not night trail experience........all while eating freaking Pop Tarts and drinking five hour energy. Having run this race, I am impressed!!! Congratulations Cody!

    Your attitude, stomach, and determination is contagious. Never heard of anyone being able to eat two chicken burritos, a five hour energy, and chicken broth at mile 50 of a 100 mile race and not pay for it later. Lettsss gooo!

    You did wicked awesome dude! I think the reason you did so well is because of your positivity. I'm sure your fitness is super great but your positivity and the fire you had lit the whole time helped you kick so much ass! Looks like you have a solid future ahead of you in ultrarunning. Keep it up! B Main

    Great race! Best cut down on the Ibuprofen though! can do a lot of kidney damage when used during endurance events. I allow myself 2-4 per 100 miler, but a lot of folks won't tough during ultras

    • @Cody-does-things
      @Cody-does-things  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How were the course markings? I thought the course was an out and back and ended back in New Hampshire!

    • @Cody-does-things
      @Cody-does-things  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope, point to point. The course markings were okay, but nothing to write home about. Without the route downloaded to my watch I would have ended up very lost several times

  • @Caprieye789
    @Caprieye789 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is the course marked? how do you not get lost? this is amazing!

    • @Cody-does-things
      @Cody-does-things  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The trail has a bunch of yellow triangles to mark it and the race directors put out some signs with arrows. Overall it’s generally well marked but road crossings are especially tough. I had navigation on my watch, that’s why I didn’t get more lost than I did

      I usually run 40-80 miles a week without much structure. I did two 50 mile runs and a 40 mile run in the two months leading up to this. I contribute most of the result to the 5+ years of consistent running. The consistency just leads to a solid foundation of fitness
