More proof that there is something wrong with the history of Western music. All this Italian music of the late seicento and the early settecento that was forgotten, or even worse, thrown away and lost. I like to think of it as the Augustan era of Western music. And then things got louder and bigger. Personally, I really like Lotti's warm melodic tonality and the many original and surprising phrasings. He is one of the best, not quite Albinoni, but I like it as much as Corelli. The originality reminds me here and there of the unmistakable melodic tonality of Pergolesi, in my opinion, just my opinion, the greatest composer who ever lived. Lotti is so full of unique surprises, all precious gems. Leo Depuydt PS Bach had a copy of this work.Handel had a copy. They copied from it for ideas. Then they became famous and Lotti was forgotten. Such a shame. Such a shame. Millions of TH-cam views for Bach and Handel. At this time, just a little over 5000 for Lotti. Frankly, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is disgusting.

Interesting fact: Giovanni Bononcini was hounded out of London for passing off one of Lotti's madrigals (La vita caduca) as though it were his own. I really like Lotti's a-capella "stile antico" masses by the way. There are one or two of those on TH-cam, although he wrote more of those.

"Frankly, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is disgusting."
I had a little laugh at that, because when I'm feeling disgusted, angry, upset, whatever......... I turn to my music and listen to Lotti.
I can imagine how you meant that comment, so this is definitely NOT calling you out in any way, just sharing.... but if I find it beautiful, whether or not it is popular is irrelevant to me.

Quite a few oversights, in the (justly deserved) adulation of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. The French school (Lully, Rameau, Couperin), Italian opera (Traetta), Czech composers (Zelenka): we are being given a VERY narrow view of music from 1650-1800.
