I was class of 2011. Ms. Ronit Reoven was my world geography teacher in 9th grade, and she has always been a caring sweet teacher who cared for her students. It pains me she had to go through this experience as anyone else has, having to be so strong and implementing these survival methods in a classroom that should be full of social studies decor, bright windows, and clean desks with no bloodshed. She is very strong to return to MSD for her students. The entire community in my hometown has been impacted by this situation, and all of the teachers who have gone back to teach again deserve serious raises, mental support for free, and all the love and respect in the world. It is a rough space to feel safe in these days. Teaching is so undervalued these days.

Oh Astrid! You are so correct. Teachers are our lifelines in so many situations. they deserve higher pay and bonuses for all the care and time they spend in caring for and teaching our students. I am 75 and look back with thankfullness to my teachers for all their care. They are many times the people that recognize that a student needs help, if only someone listens. I agree with everything you have written. Take care, I hope you have a wonderful future.

I think he deserves the death penalty... I think he has zero remorse for what he has done. It also infuriates me watching him doodle and never look up at all anytime any family member ; survivor ; anyone speaks... he has zero regard for what his actions have done and how they have effected the people around him... I dont think it's fair that the people of the US especially the families of those lost ; or survivors should have to pay taxes into taking care of this little monster for everyday of the rest of his life... their money helping supply gin with 3 meals a day and a mattress to lay his head on. He wants life in prison and I dont think he should get one single thing he wants.
      No comfort.
      No peace.
      No sympathy.
As he gave none of that to the CHILDREN he callously gunned down without batting an eye.
Him being gone will not bring back all that are lost.... but him being gone will give the families some sort of sense of justice being served.
If anyone deserves the death penalty its HIM.
Why should tax payers have to fit the bill for him to live?
Why should guards have to take care of him when he continues to attack them? Hes a ticking time bomb even now... reaching for the weapon of a guard while fighting him?
      Like come on.
Prison is for rehabilitation... and this person cannot be rehabilitated so housing him til his death of whatever he dies from is just a burden on the tax payers.
RIP to all these poor kids.
Prayers To all their families having to deal with the everyday grief of never getting to see their teenagers grow up and see what became of them...

Note: NEVER give water to a trauma victim who starts begging for water.
I'm not criticizing the teacher for her in-the-moment actions. She did the best she could in a chaotic and overwhelming situation. I'm using her mistake as a "teachable moment".
The body of a trauma victim diverts blood away from organ systems that aren't essential for "flight or fight". This includes the digestive system. As the adrenaline starts to wear off and shock sets in, the patient can develop dry mouth and a desire to drink. However, if there is blood loss giving them water is among the worse things you can do. The body is running on an "emergency mode" conserving blood for vital systems. Putting water in the stomach reactivates the digestive system, diverting blood into the stomach. There are 3 problems with this. First, the body may not have enough blood to run the heart, lungs, brain, and the stomach. The first 3 are critical, the stomach is not, so sending blood to the stomach can kill the patient. Second, if there is an injury to the digestive system, activating that system will cause increased blood loss through that injury. The patient will bleed out faster, or bleed in faster from internal bleeding. Third, the patient might vomit the water and aspirate during the emergency surgery that, hopefully, will soon follow. (That's why they only give you ice chips while you are waiting for surgery.)
Teacher first aid usually only covers a basic CPR course. My training is more extensive because I took advanced First Aid for a PE credit.
I highly recommend first aid courses. The American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and most colleges, hospitals, life guard organizations, scouting groups, and county/city health departments host or provide such training, or would be glad to refer you to a trainer.

I think what is far worse than death, is sitting in a confined room every single day for the rest of your life while you relive the memories over and over. Sitting through this trial listening to every single detail, how everyone died. The suffering and pain. Knowing you caused all of that. Spending every single day alone and isolated for the rest of your life while you are haunted with the blood on your hands, that’s way worse than death. Nick needs to rot in that cell, death is too easy. You must live with the actions you caused.

It’s NOT a teachers job to be “a good guy with a gun”. It’s NOT a teachers job to be a nurse on the battle field. Its NOT a teachers JOB to jump in front of a bullet to save their students. It’s NOT in a teachers job description to ever have to witness the ending of their students lives. But most if not all teachers would do these things anyways. It’s horrifying how normalized these instances have become in this country. We’re being forced to have children now because lawmakers want to protect the life of the fetus, but this is how those lives get protected by those same lawmakers after their birth. Those children should still be with us. This teacher should never have had to relive those memories because this should have never happened in the first place. I would wish for the death sentence, but it’s to easy of a way out for that scum. I hope they give him life in prison with NO possibility of parole and I can only pray the inmates he’s with make his life hell in there.

for me one of the most scariest part of all these testimonies, is that almost all of them never questioned what they were hearing when the shooting started. No one tries to go out and check, no one thinks its some prank or whatever. Almost all of them knew immediately what they were facing. On one side it's great though that due to all of those lockdown drills they kind knew how to recognize what's going on, but it's also scary because it shows what world our kids are growing up in...

I've watched many many interrogations and behavior studies, and am always amazed at how much can be learned about a person, just by behavior alone. This poor woman is reliving each moment during her testimony. She doesn't look up at the prosecutor, she looks down, accessing her memory. She uses gestures when describing her reactions, as if she's in her classroom at that moment, pointing out where people and objects were that day. She's a true hero. I've seen an interview with Maddie and she said that if she had been laid flat, she would've bled out due to the way she was injured. She saved lives that day by her quick thinking, and her critical thinking. But I'm sure the 3 students that were injured, and Carmen's death are the images she can't erase in her mind. The fact that she returned to her school, to continue to teach her kids shows her strength and her determination to prevent the monster that caused this carnage from winning. God bless this beautiful woman, and God bless the families of those lost and injured! 💙

With all due respect, you have absolutely zero understanding of what that weapon system is. And I’m only saying this because there is value in understanding guns if you want to be able to objectively propose actionable items that could potentially have a positive impact. What you think of as your grandpas old hunting rifle is more powerful from a caliber and ballistics standpoint than an AR. .223 which is a primary caliber for that platform isn’t even legal in some states for hunting because it’s too small of a caliber. Biden’s “just buy a shotgun” is lunacy, a shotgun victim would virtually have zero chance. It’s a rifle, with essentially the same mechanical functions as a hand gun, just in a long gun configuration. It’s not a machine gun, it’s not a military weapon. It’s a type of rifle design, cosmetically. But yes it’s a gun, like any gun, designed to be effective against people, animals, etc. it’s not an anti tank, anti armor weapon system. There are a ton of people who have AR style rifles to use for home defense. There’s literally nothing insane about an AR relatively speaking.

It’s interesting how she uses the pronoun “you” to describe her own recollections, rather than using “I” when she describes particularly distressing moments of the experience… perhaps as a way to emotionally distance herself from the trauma

I don't think there should be windows in any of the doors and all be made of solid steel. It's sad to think that's needed in the states but it may have saved more lives that day.

This whole scenario is the one shown in the videos that some of the students filmed that you can find online. You can see her crouched behind her desk and there's another student literally crouched directly inside the hub of the desk. There's another boy nearest to the door almost kneeling down that shown quite often. He gets up a few times to check on the other students, I'm guessing he is the Logan that she mentions. And you hear Ben crying for someone to help him and Maddie or Samantha screaming quietly. When the officers then come through the door to ask if anyone is injured everyone is pointing towards, Ben, Maddie and Sam like "Yes! Yes! " and when the camera pans over you can see Carmen on the floor face down, hair over face as the teacher described with blood all over the floor and you can see Maddie propped up against the desk.
The officers then guide everyone out into the hallway and you can see two other students lying presumable dead on the floor. I believe those students were Luke Hoyer and Gina Montalto. The poor girl that was filming is distraught, you can hear her crying as she runs outside past everything.

This may be a stupid question but after watching this trial...why aren't schools equipped with windows that open and perhaps those fire safety kits that have ladders/slides?

Well, the powers that be (politicians) don't really want spend lots of money into public services i.e. schools. Especially state schools

@@mi3helle707 This is very true. It just seems like a more logical approach than arming teachers. Sorry, I just don't want to live in a society where my children have guns at their school...how could we claim to be a great country when we have to resort to measures third world countries do. (family in mexico and army guards posted outside some schools - a very jarring sight).
