It was a good enough port. PS1 version is the best way to play it, but the N64 port isn't a million miles off. Essentially the same game, just with lower res textures and worse audio quality, pretty much.
The N64 was not really for kids. Actually, many adult gamers preferred it. PlayStation was for adolescents, boobs and stupid violence. This is why the N64 is more cherished today I think.
Lol nope. Both Sony and Nintendo were trying to market to teens and adults at that time. Looking at time period commercials on this very website can tell you that.
I had 4 of these growing up (still have them), not sure if that's a lot or a little... Mega Man 64, Paper Mario, Conker's Bad Fur Day (still have the box for that one too), and Mario Party 3. I was already collecting THPS games on Playstation at the time. Definitely some games here I wish I bought or rented, they look interesting.
I was pissed when Super Mario RPG 2 fell through, so even though I bought Paper Mario because I was a big RPG fan, I only gave it an hour of my time and ignored it after that out of spite, because it wasn't SMRPG. I still haven't played any more of it all these years later.
Ah, 2001. What a year. September was the worst. Back to school and all that. What a tragedy to happen the week of Monday, September 10, 2001. Terrible.
I thought that was interesting how the NES kept going three full years after the SNES release...yet once the GC came out Nintendo retired the N64 so soon afterward.
I have Paper Mario, would like to get Conker's Bad Fur Day (don't know if I am able to get it), and have Mario Party 3, Out of the Wario bros,(head cannon ) Waluigi is my favorite of the two A childhood friend of mine had Tony hawk's pro skater 2 for PS1 I seen someone with a Razor (scooter) and she was in her 20's at the time, it is going on ten years
You are totally right about Razor scooters, right up there with beanie babies in terms of how popular they were for a couple years!! I had a KNOCK OFF brand scooter of course and the wheels fell off soon enough 😭😭😭
Well, Mega Man 64, Paper Mario, Mario Party 3, and Pokémon Stadium 2 all came out in 2000. They reached North America in 2001, but I was expecting all of the games in this list to have a 2001 release initially, regardless of region. Though we westerners would get Animal Crossing for GameCube, the N64 original would stay in Japan, and wouldn't be released in other regions considering the N64's life cycle coming to a close. I bought Animal Crossing for N64 by around 2020, and I was able to pay off all of the in-game house loans the hard way. Believe me?
As for Chemical X-Traction, I just really, REALLY wish that we would have gotten a GREAT PPG game at some point. I know the potential is there if in the right hands. You'd think the show would go perfectly with the medium, but all the games that ultimately came out never managed to rise past mediocre.
I’m actually playing Paper Mario right now. I beat it when it first came out, but had to go through it again. It’s so amazing. I tell you, seeing Conker on this list, it made me think, Rare had some awesome games during the N64 era. I almost think that was peak Rare. Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, and Diddy Kong Racing!! Did I leave any out? lol.
I did love my GameCube, though not nearly as familiar with the entire library as 2001 I was in college, met the girl I married, then got a full-time job so my video gaming decreased dramatically compared to my 80s and 90s, but I did play a lot of GAmeCube
I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games I enjoy Saturn and PS1 more than N64 but they’re still some good games for N64 Sega Lord X had tons of heat with everyone last night over his latest N64 video hopefully everyone won’t go crazy on John Riggs
The N64 needed another RPG badly. This was the era when JRPGs were huge in the US and the N64 was the second weakest Nintendo console on that front behind the Virtual Boy Canceling Earthbound 64 was idiotic and shelving Paper Mario to make another platformer would have been insane. And its not like Paper Mario was the first Mario RPG or the first had done poorly.
FYI - Mega Man 64 is just a port of Mega Man Legends on PS1…like, a year or so after Legends had already come out. It landed with a thud.
It was a good enough port. PS1 version is the best way to play it, but the N64 port isn't a million miles off. Essentially the same game, just with lower res textures and worse audio quality, pretty much.
Mort is here
It was basically the same like
@@miamimagicians Yes, basically. But the game came out way too late for N64 fans to feel excited.
Shuuuu! N64 fanboy's need to keep thinking their chosen (or gifted) console was a winner everywhere.
Power stone is an arena fighter
"scooter kids" are definitely still a thing, and they stand in the center of every skatepark and ask you questions constantly
The N64 was not really for kids. Actually, many adult gamers preferred it. PlayStation was for adolescents, boobs and stupid violence. This is why the N64 is more cherished today I think.
You weren't alive during that time were you? If somehow you were, you ded weren't more than 6 years-old.
Lol nope. Both Sony and Nintendo were trying to market to teens and adults at that time. Looking at time period commercials on this very website can tell you that.
I didn’t think I’d enjoy paper Mario at first but I loved it
I had 4 of these growing up (still have them), not sure if that's a lot or a little...

That moment you realize 2001 was 24 years ago.
Yes I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games how do you think I feel over the decades
I graduated from high school in 2001. It was also a roller coaster year for me as well. Dr. Mario 64 helped soothe me during my down times.
I was pissed when Super Mario RPG 2 fell through, so even though I bought Paper Mario because I was a big RPG fan, I only gave it an hour of my time and ignored it after that out of spite, because it wasn't SMRPG. I still haven't played any more of it all these years later.

It's September 11. Duh
Conker's Bad Fur Day is my favorite N64 game.
Love these! keep them coming!
I thought that was interesting how the NES kept going three full years after the SNES release...yet once the GC came out Nintendo retired the N64 so soon afterward.
Yes razor scooters were definitely all the rage back then.
I can't get enough of these.
You're right, let's do more about this kind of videos! Thanks to these videos I discovered many games that I've never even heard of. 😁
paper mario was such a pleasant surprise when it came out
Animal chin! I have a shirt with him on it that says "have you seen him??"
Classic skate video!
I have Paper Mario, would like to get Conker's Bad Fur Day (don't know if I am able to get it), and have Mario Party 3,
Out of the Wario bros,(head cannon ) Waluigi is my favorite of the two
A childhood friend of mine had Tony hawk's pro skater 2 for PS1

For the powerpuff girls game the words you were thinking of is arena fighter.
thank you for the artwork and showing the name of the game the entire time
9:50 It's the same shirt lol
You missed Pokemon Stadium 2! Great vid though. We should do Gameboy Color next imo.
That came out in 2000, but that's OK. He mentioned Paper Mario, Mega Man 64, and Mario Party 3 despite having 2000 releases.
2001-2002 was a good year for the N64 blessed to see all from 1980-Now GameCube games by year is next
As for Chemical X-Traction, I just really, REALLY wish that we would have gotten a GREAT PPG game at some point. I know the potential is there if in the right hands.
You'd think the show would go perfectly with the medium, but all the games that ultimately came out never managed to rise past mediocre.
Let's call them arena fighters.
I’m actually playing Paper Mario right now. I beat it when it first came out, but had to go through it again. It’s so amazing. Perfect Dark was great too
@ Oh yeah!! Can’t believe I forgot about that. That game was my JAM back in 2000!
Can you do the best and (worse) PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games for each year please? Of course starting with PlayStation 1
Hi Riggs 😁👋
We love you Riggs great content
Pleeeease do a Game Cube one XD
I did love my GameCube, though not nearly as familiar with the entire library as 2001 I was in college, met the girl I married, then got a full-time job so my video gaming decreased dramatically compared to my 80s and 90s, but I did play a lot of GAmeCube
Pararper the rarper 😂 get it right
I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now
I have every console and tons of games I enjoy Saturn and PS1 more than N64 but they’re still some good games for N64 Sega Lord X had tons of heat with everyone last night over his latest N64 video hopefully everyone won’t go crazy on John Riggs
Keep going through gamecube! Love these videos!

Arena fighter is what you're thinking of.
There you go! I couldn't think of the name.
Keep going Riggs the Rabbit!
2001 was an underrated year for N64. Console is objectively not nearly the best, but it was awesome growing up with it.
Love me some Power Stone!!!
Awesome 👍 appreciate it...
The 64 was an awful console with an awful library
Nah it had the best games. Masterpieces of the generation. And heavily collected today.
You shhh. Right now
Realistically, goldeneye, ocarina of time, no mercy, and Mario kart or some of the greatest games ever made
Oh shut up
Oh shut it
Conker's BFD remains awesome
