    I have owned this watch for 5 months now, seems like I’ve had it for longer because it quite literally hasn’t left my wrist. This is easily the best watch I’ve owned

    You are definitely my favorite practical watch reviewer on YT. Like actual experience of ownership. Most reviews should be called overviews. Keep it up brother.

      More like a similar style that doesn’t use the snowflake hands. It looks really great and is priced probably $500 too high for their brand recognition. 😍

    Just curious Mark since you've handled both. Monta vs Ginault. Is the finishing significantly better with Monta or is it pros and cons at that level? Macros make both look very impressive. The Ocean King v3 and Silent Service are heading for similar aesthetics and away from homage which is great too.

    • @AverageBros
      @AverageBros  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mattwilliams7454 it's tough because with the Ginault you will always be comparing it to a Rolex, and it will in that way always be a lesser version of that execution, where as the Monta chooses to add additional details that Rolex doesn't have, that can be considered more complex or ambitious, so you see it for more of what the Rolex isn't vs. seeing where it's not a Rolex. If that makes sense.

    I’m looking to move up from the Seiko Prospex divers. The prices used to be reasonable but new reissues are hitting near luxury prices. I want a Rolex no date sub but just don’t want to pay 13k on the grey market. Waiting to see it Tudor updates the BB 58 this year. Not sure how it compares with the Ginault OR II which seems like a better value at $1699 for an homage watch. I know Ginaualt has some image issues but the reviews I’ve read on the watches seem to be pretty positive. Not sure if either are reliable long term to service or repair a watch. Is that worth another 2k for a Tudor or Longines? What’s the best one watch homage diver under 3k?

    • @AverageBros

      I would recommend finding a watch you really want, for what it is vs. solely as a cheaper alternative to something you know you want. Look within your budget comfort zone and evaluate what you like about each contender and ask yourself if the prices were all equal, which would you honestly gravitate towards. If nothing resonates, then there's no need to upgrade in price, if you're not also upgrading in personal enjoyment.

      I have an OR 2 it's very good watch extremely well made, my brother has a submariner there's hardly any difference in terms of how it wears, only difference is the weight, the sub is a little lighter (904l steel) Monta also make great watches (I've had a triumph) personally id pay the extra and get a BB 54/58 the only thing that has stopped me from getting one so far is the lack of on the fly adjustment for the bracelet

    This Monta is a nice watch, but for half the price, I would go with a Longines Hydroconquest, which I feel has more unique characteristics and a more well known brand name. I appreciate your great reviews and I'm sure there are many Monta fans who appreciate this watch too.

      I can't really say what sizes you'll like best on your wrist, sorry. It does wear pretty true to size, so if you enjoy other 40mm divers, this one should work too.

    I was so excited to see what version 3 would be as I was looking to get the perfect black dial diver. Man was I disappointed. They killed the soul and uniqueness and turned the OK into an also ran homage. I don't mind homages at all but the price no longer is justified to me. Less lume, elimination of the interior polishing on the lugs. Things that made it worth it are removed.

    • @dukes70
      @dukes70 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Totally agree! They did the same with their Skyquest. I have gen 1 gilt and gen 2 lost the Monta style and characteristics. It’s too cookie cutter looking now. Bracelet is better but the dial bezel lost what was charming about Monta

    • @RabbitWatchShop
      @RabbitWatchShop 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I speculate Monta did this to attract wider appeal. The milsub hands, red dial text, and bezel insert does in fact look a little too Submariner.

    Its nice, but still too expensive for a microbrand/independent brand. I cant for the life of me figure out why they refuse to add quick release for the bracelet. There are so many watches cheaper than this that has that. Also, they also refuse to colormatch the date wheel on any of their models.

    • @robertwilliams1286
      @robertwilliams1286 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably for balance of the dial. The cardinal indices are all white so the date being white balances it

      Quick release bracelet create loose end links. Monta's tolerances are very tight, like high-end watches.

  • @nvc.
    @nvc. 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This watch hould be perfect if the edge of the bezel was slimmer, a bit more like a coin edge but maybe not has thin. The larger edge makes it feel unbalance like almost half of the profile is the case (wich is perfect and beautiful) but then the edge of the bezel is almost the same high, it's too thick for a bezel imo. Make it slimmer and have the crystal a bit boxed and this watch is perfect! Never change the flat casebacks, that's one of the things i think most people don't talk about and it's so important! i cant stand domed casebacks they are so dam unconfortable

    • @maitrehg
      @maitrehg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The caseback is the reason why this Monta is more comfy than a Sub.

    • @nvc.
      @nvc. 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@maitrehg Absolutely. I don't understand why people don't talk about this more. It's a night and day diference how confortable a flat caseback is compared to a domed one.

    To bad Monta doesnt have AD or a partner outside US. Its already quite expensive and on top of shipping cost and customs, servicing would also be a pain for people outside US... its more expensive than Aquis, Hydroconquest or Cpt. Cook from more established brands.
    One thing I would say I don't like about this Oceanking is lack of engraving of some sort on the back

      I was just thinking about what company produces the better watch. Never handled either but like the look of both. Waiting for a secret service GMT because I don’t like the aesthetic of the Monta GMT much. Is Ginault trash and not worth the money?’

    • @RabbitWatchShop
      @RabbitWatchShop 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@toddfleury7324 no. Ginualt actually produces a good watch. It’s just that Monta is a few steps above in terms of build, quality, and finishing. Their bracelets, clasps, and bezels are patented designs. Both the bezel and crown action on Monta divers are superior to Ginualt. Ginault, which is owned by a Chinese man, use to manufacture counterfeit Rolex submarines and yahtmasters. So there’s that, too.
