Fun fact, ANYTHING can become an addiction. Enough dopamine and serotonin you got an addiction. South Park did an amazing episode on addiction.
Mobile game addiction was the focus of that episode.
lol satan telling stan how it works was perfect
I spend a lot of money on online gaming since a disability. I was a jock, and recording artist back in the day. My colleague calls me a ‘has-been.’😂 He ain’t wrong. But, I can barely do anything about else. But, I spend my OWN money and it doesn’t put me out. Addiction is addiction as you say. I had an alcohol habit I quit in my early 20s. But, one bad marriage and lots of health issues are definitely a trigger. I’m now a disabled single mom of two. I still work too. And I suffer LOTS of abuse at work at work due to my disability as the ADA law is ambiguous as hell, and protects everyone but disabled folks. But, because, I work the courts, they get away with it 100% The trick is staying busy. This is why I keep myself employed. But, 40K!!! That’s too much. If he’s a priest, I guess I can give him a bit of a pass, as it’s not something worse. I imagine their lives can’t be too exciting. And that does include Covid time. I still think 40k is too extreme🤔
its sad y'all get your knowledge of addiction from cartoons
@@tekamer6566 It’s sad because we don’t have first hand knowledge of being an addict? How is it sad that we’re not druggies?
Not that the priest isn't a criminal, it feels like a bigger crime to have games where $40k can be spent.
Nah, its a mobile game and its free to download. Thats why microtransaction was a thing. They have to make money somehow like it or not. The real problem is AAA games on console and PC which usually cost more than 70$ that have microtransaction in it
@@devseiya I find it more problematic the amount of money people can put into the game as addicts. If I'm addicted to WoW, I have limited in-game options to spend my money on to feed the addiction. My time may be spent, but I won't have spent $40,000 in the process
@@matthewlantz1677 Yeah well, sadly none of us can control how other people spend their money on these kind of games
@@devseiya No, but it makes me sad sometimes.
U shouldn’t pit them but if u really care, it’s not about the game money it’s them they’re addics n addiction is a disease it’s not the game
Somehow the fact that he blasted it on Candy Crush makes it that much more funny
The Christian man's gacha game.
Atozy if you see this please never use ai again your gonna ruin your career and I don't want that your my favorite TH-camr
Skinner boxes are scary. To me it's more sad than funny that these predatory psychological manipulation "games" are even accepted as normal. Not that I approve stealing money to fund something as stupid as this, but they're purposefully designed to catch people susceptible to this in order to bring in the big bucks.
My grandma is tryhard at candy crush and she doesnt put a dime on it 😂
I'd make a joke about priests and kids, but the Vatican would send one of Boeing's hitmen at me if I did
Around 10 years ago I worked customer service for a credit card company. Had a woman call in wanting to know why she was at her max limit of like $4000/$5000 and when I was reviewing her charges it was all $1 charges with the occasional $5 or $10. She said, "Oh, yeah that sounds right..."Wild how all those $1 charges add up.
Candy Crush and pretty much every other mobile game literally employ psychologists to figure out how to make their games more addicting.
I just smoke rocks. Much easier, more fun, and less addicting.
@darksu6947 I hope that's a joke, and you aren't that naive.
Also *addictive 'Addicting' isn't a word. Although, maybe in the U.S.A. it is.
@@daniellamcgee4251 It is indeed a word we use here but your way works too. Smoking crack rocks can be a fun and rather enjoyable activity if you are with the right people. Not sure how you came up with me being naive just because I happened to enjoy doing a very wholesome but illegal activity with my friends in my teenage years but whatever works for you I suppose.
@@daniellamcgee4251yes it's true, so does epic games and most other high end publishers and developers especially mobile games. It's all about the profit. Epic has hired people specifically to enhance the addictive properties of v-bucks. If you don't understand that then your the naive one.
I mean if this was the worst priests did...
@@victork9938I agree especially he felt so bad he tried to pay it back. I don’t think he is evil but definitely shouldn’t be in charge of things until he gets help and recovery for his addiction.
Funny how when a priest embezzles money from the church they go to the police and press charges. But those other more heinous crimes? "Nah we don't talk about that."
It's horrific when that happens. There should legally be staff specifically for those cases that report those situations to police. My church has one but i know many churches don't @AxeGaijin
@@blessedcocoa5729 That's badass your church has one; more power to you and much love!
Yeah this is something that I would support the Priest in countersuing these mobile game companies for even making it possible to spend that much money.
Thou shalt not steal.
*’Unless thou really really really needs to incubate some Pokémon eggs n’ stuff then I guess it’s cool’
Thou shalt not spend $40,000 on mobile games 😂😂 that itself should be a sin let alone the stealing and lying 😂
Rules for thee, not for me
i think theres a rule in there against fucking kids too, but that one seems to go unnoticed by priests as well

Nope. Krakens are the big spenders in mobile games and they spend hundreds of thousands on mobile games every year. Each Kraken.
A "holy" whale
Yeah, that term was coined in 1950s Las Vegas. All big spenders are called "whales."
Whaling is basically a mental illness, and these games are designed to exploit people like this guy. There really needs to be more regulation of mobile microtransactions.
He's already at the Poseidon level with that huge sum of money

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey mobile games can really suck you in. Not defending the dude, but I was once addicted to gotcha games. I ended up spending $20k. It was hard to stop but I did it.
Especially if you have trouble with restraint. The amount of times I would read an article with " parent warns of the danger of leaving child alone with device". Then the article would proceed to have the parent complain about how they left their child alone for a few hours with their phone or something because something happened to the child's device and ended up charging their card on file a few grand. The apps would then reply to the article about how devices have it so you can set up a two factor authentication for purchasing lol.
Good job quitting. I was in a similar place, it's hard to quit but the best thing you could of done 👍
Holy shit I thought my $500 wasted on gacha was bad…
I can relate to this. I hope for the day that I can walk away from of all of this....
@@christaincotoco2738 You can do it, the hardest part is stopping. I had to delete the apps, deleted my saved login details so I couldn't log in and delete the link to credit card/PayPal.
Once you make the decision to do it don't think about just do all of it and walk away, leaving is the hard part because we build up those habits to keep coming back but once you go a day or two it's easy to stay away.
I hope it helps, good luck on your journey

If you're stuck on a level for ages, like, you've been trying it for hours. The 'paying money to beat the level' is suddenly very appealing.
Exactly lol
I understand addiction but i don't understand that. The entire reason video games are fun is because you're overcoming a challenge, an obstacle. There's absolutely no fun in cheating one way's through. In the rare cases where it is, it gets boring really fast, within 5 minutes.
People who try to avoid all obstacle or progression in video games are completely missing the point. It's like playing bowling and trying to see how much you can break a table with a bowling ball. Sure, it's possible to get some fun out of it, but it's missing the point and missing out on the fun.
There's exceptions but this is speaking in general.
May I introduce you to DarkSydePhil who has a WWE Champions addiction who has spent over $140,000 in the past 3 years.
DSP- Dark Syde Priest
That’s nothing. People have admitted to spending over 500k in Marvel Contest of Champions. I believe Proff Hoff did an interview with one whale who admitted to spend around 100k a year.
@@dukhntr21 That's nothing? I suppose you spent as much on video games? Since it's nothing.
They do it by making it flashy when you complete a level -- chiming sounds, money falling like from a slot machine sounds. Every once in a while the difficulty spikes, and the dopamine stops. Then they offer to sell you boosts or other things to get past the difficulty and get back to the dopamine flow.
Most people can resist it. But lots of people can't. And lots of people who think they can don't. And then lots of the rest of us who are usually smart enough not to fall for it get roped in while going through a depressive period. Nothing kills depression like dopamine.
They make you addicted to your own endocrine system. After my dad died, I spent $1000 over six months on Puzzle & Dragons (one of the early Gacha games). I thought my wife was going to kill me but she confessed she had spent $400 on candy crush in the same period.
They know exaclty what they're doing and it's pure evil. And now Microsoft owns King, which is massively complicit in this whole scam.
If an adult managed to get sucked into this addiction so badly, imagine what it must do to all the kids that this brightly colored candy themed game is targeted toward... :/
I mean there have been numerous articles over the years talking about that lol.
Have never had any of MY friends playing it, only their parents. As much as you’d like to sob about “ the children “ on this topic, it’s not and never has bothered the youth.
@@TheCommanderTaco Anyone can write an article about anything. I only believe the news, yk, somewhere with actual facts and not listening to someone else’s word on the internet. He's the DarkSydePhil of the Priesthood.
The prices for the microtransactions in *all* games, even Candycrush, have gone up EXPONENTIALLY since that 10 year old video you watched, so I have *no* problem believing that someone who's addicted to the experience will be able to spend enormous amounts of money if they "want" to.
Considering what a lot of priests have been accused of, if this is the worst thing he’s done, take the win and let him keep his job.
Nah.He should step down and get a different job!
Take the win ?
How is this a win?
@stanleyhape8427 The priest started paying the money back.
@@wilcee238 That's not a win, that's a slightly better loss. That logic makes as much sense as climing that a crime is only illegal if you get caught. This is just a whataboutism in disguise. Someone doing something worse doesn't make someone doing something bad okay. Should we let go a serial killer considering some people have attempted a genocide?
Candy crush is basically a glorifed Tetris
That's an insult to Tetris!
It's not. It's match 3. Tetris is Tetris and Match 3 is Match 3.

That ‘Devil’s in the details’ joke was slick 😂
I would start playing WoW at 9am and time flew by so fast that before I knew it was midnight. I had to stop playing because I couldn't control myself. It was very addictive.

@@NicoleCamp88 dont know the game sucks lol.
Mewtwo is hard to capture, I get it 🤑
“Where’s the impulse control?!?”
Welllllll he was a priest lol 😂
These kinds of games are DESIGNED to be addictive. They’re easily accessible, being free and with simple gameplay, thus more likely to catch people with people predisposed to addiction or have addictive personalities.
At least he is not a pdf.file , just make him pay it back and 2 years jail for fraud.

@@Regu269ya I’m not ready to rule it out. This is probably just a distraction
“This puzzles me.” haha
It’s a dual addiction. These games not only addict you by playing heavy on the gaming aspect, but it then hits your gambling addiction by getting one to buy lives (you bet on the chance actually of you winning the game, but there’s no finish. It’s just 1400+ stages)
“I’m not really a details guy” is the funniest defense 😂

My grandma had a similar problem. Not even boomers are safe from video game addiction.
Just use his real pic lmao
I heard that he had a head injure in a car accident, definitely need some help.
My mother spent almost $3000 in one month on online games (to her credit, she's 78 and has dementia). We were able to get some of that back, but the consequence was that Mom no longer has control of her finances. She gets so mad about it, too, because she'll want money for literally her online games. She tries a lot of the same manipulative tactics that drug addicts will use to get money for a hit. As Atozy pointed out, it's literally spending money for a dopamine hit, and it's a lot more common than people realize because of the embarrassment that goes along with the addiction. Families are afraid to talk about it, and the problem continues or gets worse.
The face that I turned this on and have the TH-cam window open while I play candy crush is crazy😮. Don't worry i don't spend any money lol, it's ads or I just loose atozy😂😂

I started playing Candy Crush Soda again recently and they are EXTREMELY scummy. They gaod you into always trying to beat a level first try, have multiple streak things to guilt trip you into paying to continue, and will literally show the stats for how many MILLIONS of people ran outta moves on a level and ""Had"" to buy more moves. When they say "the devil is in the details" this is what they mean 😂
“So what’s a priest got to do to end up in jail?”
“Candy crush… the devils playground..”
He not only forgot that he was spending the church's money, he forgot about one of the 10 Commandments: YOU SHALL NOT STEAL. That's basic Bible Lore that you learn as a little kid and a whole Priest is ignoring it. So much for being a Man of God. I can't speak on Pokemon GO or Mario Kart Tour but you can buy boosters to make the Match 3 gameplay easier and to get lives but I've never heard of people spending 1000s on it before.
People do it all the time sadly. A quick Google search led me to a site called TechSpot. This was an article from 2016:
Teenager spends almost $8000 on microtransactions without father's knowledge
There are many articles about kids somehow spending into the thousands when their parents lend them their devices so they can concentrate on work only to later realize their CC bill has skyrocketed. In some cases they were refunded but in others that was a loss they had to take.
* my bad the aforementioned article apparently was about FIFA, but there have been numerous articles about kids spending exorbitant amounts on mobile games.
Damn, here i thought it was only half a priest.
I’m an old person. 67 years. I play the Candy Crush games and have for a couple of years. I have NEVER spent money on it. If I run out of boosters or lives, I quit for a day or so and they refill. If I get stuck, I delete that version of the game and install one of the “spin-offs”. There’s Saga, Jelly, Soda, Friends and possibly others. I’ve played through about 150 levels and was never asked for money to continue. 41,000?!? The priest must have some kind of addiction disorder!

That must be one of the most ridiculous additions to have as a priest. I mean no temptation and all... 😅
I think its important to understand that typically the people who get addicted, like I would guess in this situation, have rarely seriously played any other sort of game on a console or computer. This could be their only exposure so everything being mega rigged for microtransactions and addicting pointless gameplay tropes is normalized. They have no clue that they are actually being played by a money stealing fidget spinner that can barely be considered a game.
They aren't being played though, they are playing everyone at the church and this probably wasn't the only thing or way they were playing people either.
It doesn't make much sense otherwise
It's crazy how the Catholic Church will get law enforcement involved if a priest touches their money but not if a priest touches a child.
