    Eyebolt driver from Amazon amzn.to/3ILYm1M Ours was larger than this. We were using a 1 1/4-inch socket that we modified to drive the large eye screws into the roof trusses.

      Thanks for your kind comments...It's always nice when you see kids turn out better than me, in spite of me! Thanks for being part of the solution!

    I have pre-made metal suspended storage racks in my garage. They actually made room in the garage for other emergency preparedness things that don't mind the extreme temperatures.

    Make sure you check how thick the joists are that you're screwing into. Most house today are made with 2x4 joists and rafters. Can't put much weight on those. The weight of the shelf alone would be too much.

    • @JonathanBJones
      @JonathanBJones ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey Bob...you make a good point. I'm sure there are some homes where they used bare minimums to cut costs. You do need to be aware of those loads. In our case, the trusses are plenty strong, but if unsure, additional 2x4's could be used to beef-up the bottom cord of the truss and cross member between trusses could be added to resist buckling. And in our case, we will be storing relatively light loads...things like seasonal clothes and decorations, as well as boxes of blankets, etc. Thanks for bringing up an important point...and thanks for being part of the solution!

      @@JonathanBJones Hmmm!! 🤔🤔 .. Not sure why you guys chose to put up such super heavy shelves just to store light stuff .. its so counter intuitive??

    That's great Mike, Robert and Jonathan. I used that space for my fishing poles. I plan on making shelving in my basement/crawlspace. Happy trails!

    Could probably go with 2"×2" and 1/4" ply to save on weight. Great project.

    Great idea. My family just moved to a new home. No garage, but we have a shed with high ceilings. This may be an option for those once a year bulky Christmas decorations.

    The 'false ceiling' is a great idea. One question, ' How do you work out the safe load it can carry'?. In my own home, the space I'm going to try to utilise is the space above the stairwell . Thanks for the inspiration guys 😊 🇬🇧 🇺🇲

    I suggest hinging drop down panels within the studs to hold less commonly used tools.

    I live in a condo & this past year I built an extra floor to ceiling storage locker out of plywood in the dead space behind my parking space in the parking garage. Sure, I had to follow the rules & select one of the pre-approved plans, but then a neighbor who is a contractor who has built plenty of these showed me how to use the hidden dead spaces inside.

    If you have a standard 2 x 4 bottom cord roof truss, they are only manufactured to hold the weight of the drywall attached to it. Adding extra weight to that can collapse your roof.

    We all know somebody “knee-deep” in long-term food. Ahh, what a surprise they’re in for in the ol’ taste buds. Probably the most positive comment I’ve heard about the taste of some of the long-term food is “well, it’s better than cannibalism…not by much but at least a little better”. How about an episode dedicated to how they can improve the taste of long-term food with the addition of some other commercial/retail foods (ie. A can of soup + ramen noodles = tasty food, or beef jerky + elbow macaroni = tasty food, etc.).

    Great job fellas. My only question: Why didn't you show the garage door opening and closing after the shelves were completed? Wasn't that the whole purpose of building the shelves? 👍 ✌

  • @lisablake4237
    @lisablake4237 ปีที่แล้ว

    First of all, the garage is packed with stuff. More space means getting rid of the junk and organizing what you use and not hoard what you don't.
    What a mess.
    Your vehicles do not need a heated house to be in, park them outside and put shelves all through your heated garage.
