This is a demonstration for excellent flying as well as excellent aviation filming. The person behind the cam knows its stuff as much as the pilot knows his. Congrats.
Almost every modern fighter jet can do a cobra, but western pilots don’t typically use a cobra because it is a useless maneuver in a dogfight that leaves you in a low energy state and pretty much ensures you will get blown out of the sky
The f 18 isn’t credited like it should b. But that’s ok. It was designed to be primarily an aircraft carrier jet main purpose to protect the fleet. It is more than capable aircraft. It’s will slowly being phased out by the f 35.
Cobra is nothing special, it's just something the Russians show off. But most modern jets can do it and the F/A-18 is well known for its excellent high-AOA capabilities. It's a maneuver that isn't exactly useful in combat, but very spectacular at air shows.
@Santiago Canudas You don't actually need vector thrust for a Cobra. The first Flankers showing off the Cobra three decades ago did not have vector thrust either.
Wow! I have seen a lot of f-18 demonstrations and this is probably the most elegant. The pilot reminded me of a figure scatter on ice. Smooth, graceful and effortless turns and I got the feeling the pilot may have some experience in competitive skiing or ice skating. A lot of what he did was marginally above a stall and yet always powering through in a manner that shows he understood exactly where he was in the flight envelope of this aircraft. I don’t think this particular demonstration could be done as well in an f-16 because of its unique aerodynamics. Great camera man / person by the way!!
This is an amazing demonstration of skill and mad respect for this pilot. I would NOT want to be in a dogfight with him and that plane. I did not even know the F18 was capable of some of those maneuvers.
Like the announcer said somewhere in the video this thing can land on a short highway airstrip. The reason why finland bought fighters made only for aircraft carriers is because FDF have different needs for their planes. Finnish airforce is able to setup a base pretty much anywhere which has a wide enough road using the same technology used in aircraft carriers. Because Finland have only 3 airbases which all could be destroyed in minutes. So basically Finland has aircraft carriers on land. Finnish airforce is buying new planes soon and the new planes must have at least the same capabilities or a VTOL.

The nose authority and AOA on the Legacy Hornet is legendary. Just awesome. This Finnish pilot is quite skilled as well; he took the F-18 to the limit for sure. As well, I love the high-pitched whistle as the turbofans spool up to higher speed!

Test Pilots used to say America's best kept secret was the dogfight performance of the 18C, well thanks to this it's not going to be a surprise anymore. What an excellent display.
This plane has modifications done by Patria on the flight surfaces. The pilot is absolutely great no doubt but you couldnt pull these maneuvers with CF-18
Patrik Ravolainen CF-18 could pull most of the maneuvers off that are seen in the video, I’ve seen some extreme limits they reach (big into RCAF as I’m from Canada myself) but they couldn’t maneuver the way it does at the beginning where it rolls with minimal speed like a SU27
@@KoteDarasuum The angle of attack limits were in the F 18 flight control software. The new upgrades remove them. Not only the finnish got them also the swiss. Maybe Canada should upgrade their F 18s too.
@@KoteDarasuum that's weird I worked at airshows the last 4 yrs all over the usa and I've seen our f18 demo pilots do this every show, they all fly basically the same routine
Thanks for posting this video. I live in Pensacola, the home of the blue angels and I’ve been telling people for years that the blue angels demo don’t show the full maneuverability of the f18
I've watched the blue Angel's prolly 30 times the last 4 yrs working airshows and during their routine they dont perform these maneuvers. Now on the other hand a cpl days prior to the shows they fly over the field getting the lay out of the land and they mess around doing high speed fly overs and crazy skilled maneuvers
I bet Boeing engineers didn't know that the hornet could do that... I hope they invite the guy for a beer. Boy, with that skills he could save the day in "Behind of Enemy Lines", if you ask me..
Negative Ghost Rider.... she is a McDonnel Douglas product with some help from Northrop. I suppose one could argue super hornets are all Boeing but, not so much.
I remember reading somewhere that Navy trainer pilots always used the F-18 to represent any opfor aircraft as they can ease their abilities to match that of other air craft. They are that absolutely beyond maneuverable and fast as hell. It's incredible what that air frame is capable of.
What a Fantastic video with great sound too. Thank you for taking the time to upload it and make it available for us all to enjoy. There was some over zooming though that kept making it go out of focus!
Awesome video thanks for sharing! The F18 is my favorite 4 plus generation fighter and this pilot puts her to the edge great job. Amazing what this fighter jet can do without thrust vectoring and such truly amazing. Give this pilot a SU-35 ..I bet that he will able to create new maneuvers.... extremely exelente with F-18... fist time I see an F -18 being flown like this....my full respect to this pilot....! Thanks for the video...
Nah give him Dassault Rafale, the most agile jet in the world atm.
Why would he want to down-shift? He already has one that is superior to the Su-35!
@@tombrunila2695 not really... the su-35 is more agile, faster, has more modernized radars and equipment, has thrust vectoring so its better in pretty much every aspect...
@@s8theninjawarrior916 f22 is the best,we don't know what manuevers the f22 can pull, because there is a one fighter pilot says that in an airshow that we've seen is not the maximum maneuver that US aircraft can do,US has strict regulations in airshows
Wow. Fantastic flying. This pilot is truly demonstrating what the aircraft is capable of.
5:35 I really love that you can see him waving at you up there
Best F/a-18 demo ever, hands down!
I would love to see what this man can do with an F22 Raptor. He is one very skilled pilot. Great job.
Brilliant performance / display! He really knows his own and also the plane's limits and limitations! Well done, Finnish pilot, very well done! Great camera work too! :)
Thanks! ☺
The nose authority and AOA on the Legacy Hornet is legendary. Just awesome. This Finnish pilot is quite skilled as well; he took the F-18 to the limit for sure. As well, I love the high-pitched whistle as the turbofans spool up to higher speed!
5:03 - Plane starts and finishes a 4 second U-turn. That is amazing, and it's completely without thrust vectoring. That Hornet does impress, even with the Su 33 prapaganda flying around
Never seen this "fat lady" thrown through the skies like this. I'm Finnish and have seen these "big birds" multiple times in Finnish Airshows doing solo displays during the years, but still haven't seen anything like this! Amazing pilotwork and absolutely great video! Thanks!
Test Pilots used to say America's best kept secret was the dogfight performance of the 18C, well thanks to this it's not going to be a surprise anymore. What an excellent display.
Well how is the F-16 Is rated a better dogfighter then !!!
@@265justy it's not, old myth. The original LWF A models sure, but then they made it a wannabe Hornet.
Wow!! What a performace. I was sweating in my chair, just watching. Greetings to Captain Ukskoski from Sweden!!!
Rudolf Abelin actually he’s from Finland
This is the most entertaining demo I've ever seen! WOW
Jose Kari sorry my bad
Absolutely incredible and that says a lot because I'm from Canada and we have some great pilots flying the same plane here.
Pffftt. Y’all are still flying with training wheals on up there. Now git back to bein Liberal.
Those flat spins and guided "falling out of the sky" is superior pilotsmanship
Excellent footage this demo is mind-blowing, this wasp looks like an F-22 just incredible and addictive, I always come back here
Thanks for posting this video. I live in Pensacola, the home of the blue angels and I’ve been telling people for years that the blue angels demo don’t show the full maneuverability of the f18
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! :)
The Thunderbirds do stuff like this, Cobras and such, but this guy is like Messi with a Hornet
This guy makes the Angels look boring...
But I have seen our f18 demo pilots basically fly this same routine multiple times
Fantastic demo! Those awards were apparently well deserved!
That hand wave during the high Alpha pass; epic.
Wow, this pilot pushes the F-18 to the limit. Very impressive.
Excellent display! I can't imagine how many warnings must have been sounding while he was giving a cheeky wave too! brilliant.
I bet Boeing engineers didn't know that the hornet could do that... I hope they invite the guy for a beer. Boy, with that skills he could save the day in "Behind of Enemy Lines", if you ask me..
Boeing: Would you testfly the Max for us?
Negative Ghost Rider.... she is a McDonnel Douglas product with some help from Northrop. I suppose one could argue super hornets are all Boeing but, not so much.
Everytime I see this awesome video I'm still amazed at what this pilot can make this F-18 do, and without thrust vectoring. Just astonished.
Well done Arto! Best F18 flying I've seen so far.
That's just one fantastic display
The maneuver oftenly done by the superhornet but this pilot done it with fa18c, he deserves to be the winner
That's a great pilot, awesome to see, thank you!
Absolutely BRUTAL! What a show, Finnish sisu at it's greatest!
I remember reading somewhere that Navy trainer pilots always used the F-18 to represent any opfor aircraft as they can ease their abilities to match that of other air craft. They are that absolutely beyond maneuverable and fast as hell. It's incredible what that air frame is capable of.
F 18 taking vectoring to a whole new level. Beautiful.
Amaziing flying on the critical edge of raw power and brilliant aerobatic skills!
What a Fantastic video with great sound too. Thank you for taking the time to upload it and make it available for us all to enjoy. There was some over zooming though that kept making it go out of focus!
!!!!Damn!!!! He flew that plane like it had thrust vectoring. I never seen a Hornet do this ever. If I tried this is DCS WORLD, I'd crash.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! The F18 is my favorite 4 plus generation fighter and this pilot puts her to the edge great job. Amazing what this fighter jet can do without thrust vectoring and such truly amazing. Likewise the Super Hornet can maneuver just as well as this regular hornet while being bigger which really is a sight to see.
This is simply awesome. Very skilled pilot. Good video quality and above all amazing maneuvering.
This fighter plane is an icon
. Great pilot!!!!
Talent, talent, pure talent !! Well done sir.
A man at one with his charriot. Beauty and well done.
