    A remarkable man who faced Aids with courage and determination. This was during a time of fear and ignorance about the disease. One of the poignant things about this video is despite his efforts to stay alive he knew it was a losing battle. Very very few people diagnosed with Aids during the 1980s survived until the new life saving drugs were developed in the mid to late 1990s. An entire generation of gay nen wiped out. David's died in Nov 1986 and his lover Sal died of Aids in 1990. .

      Sadly not. He passed away from AIDS in 1986. Sal, his partner, died in 1990. Unfortunately, we lost a whole generation of gay men who were so wonderfully talented. Very few men that were diagnosed in the early years of the epidemic made it to the mid 90's when the "cocktail" of medicine that saved lives came about. Nothing short of a tragedy.

    • @tj5945
      @tj5945 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      CAPELLASAMPIERE it was a time of ignorance, stigma and fear that isn't as prevalent as it used to be. If David forgave his mother and they repaired their relationship, then who the hell are you to judge her? AIDS was a very controversial topic to even talk about and David's mother did eventually learn the error of her ways. You are a bitch to judge that poor woman.

    • @RosettaStoned462

      Jepp Dni I realize it was a different "time". Regardless, a mother's love should be unconditional!!! I wouldn't care if a had a child that had a new disease no one knew anything about...it's your child!!! you should do anything to protect them and love them. Normal people would die for children!!! if you're a parent and you see your child is sick they way he was and your instinct is to leave because you're scared you may get it...You don't deserve to have children...there are some people in this world that shouldn't have children!!!! I hope to God you don't breed or have children because if you condone that type of behavior, you are/will be an unfit parent!!!

    • @tj5945
      @tj5945 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      CAPELLASAMPIERE you and judgmental people like you who only see one side of things are ignorant pieces of shit and the world needs less of you. He caught HIV (which developed into AIDS) by his own promiscuity and filth...as many of them did. They weren't just catching the disease from monogamous relationships, but from filthy orgies in bathhouses and anonymous butt fucks from literally Tom Dick or Harry who would fuck and cum in them. His damn fault! Then when they came down with a new and 100% fatal disease that no one knew (then) the exact modes of transmission, his mother was supposed to just expose herself? bullshit. She never stopped loving him, but she was afraid and rightfully so. Their relationship was rekindled and he forgave his mother for her ignorance...so as I stated before, who the fuck are you to say she shouldn't be a mother? And yes, I have 5 beautiful adult children who are all a success and we all have loving relationships. If one of them contracted HIV, I wouldn't behave like David's mother because I am not ignorant about the disease, as she was in the 80s.

I feel sorry for your 5 children , that you probably couldn't take care of sufficiently. you're disgraceful and pathetic.

    I presume from the diagnosis of the sarcoma that he then 'knew' he had AIDS? That wasn't very clear to me. I'm guessing he knew this cancer was extremely common with people with AIDS. He doesn't talk of getting a blood test and getting formally diagnosed by a doctor.

    • @nedalsaleh1298
      @nedalsaleh1298 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Depends on the time of the recording...the AIDS virus first blood test was approved on March 2 1985..anyway...a young gay man having Caposi Sarcoma in the 80s means he is infected with the AIDS virus as its a very rare form of cancer affects people with damaged Immune System

    50% of US hemophiliacs were wiped out, and we don't really hear about it, to that degree.
    No matter what you think or believe about homosexuality, their ability to get the message out, to document the devastation, to organise, was incredibly impressive.

    This "Gay Plague" thing nastiness wasn't helped by the fact that a lot of people interviewed with AIDS tended to be gay. We know anyone no matter what sexuality could get it. This didn't seem fair to me to the gay committee.

    Thank you for the post this was a wonderful and refreshing piece of film on this subject. Footage like this contains the real heroic activists of that time. And sadly all those original heroes have gone... And now we have modern day tributary type documentaries full of actors and recreated scenes pretending to be the original.
