I wonder if that's a conscious decision, coached, or if he's just particularly sensitive to accents (especially as an actor)? I split my time between a Scandinavian country and my home country, and I do seem to have a different voice in both places because my speech is easily influenced. But honestly, who knows? American television can be a bit weird about stuff like this. Hard for foreign actors to break into. My hunch is that it was something adopted at the point of transitioning his career to Hollywood.
