Haha good times for me it was when I was 9 years old 1994 but it was with yoshis world on Super Nintendo on Christmas Eve.. shit I had dreams of that shit that lasted for years it seemed lol
You should read the book "Game Over" by David Sheff, they have a whole chapter on how Nintendo negotiated their rights to get this game exclusive for Nintendo back then (before they turned to grade A assholes) in post Communist Russia when it started to open it market to the world and meeting with Alexey guy
It _was_ their flagship game that "sold" the Game Boy. I have a feeling they spent a large amount of time and money getting that game just right...the theme music alone sold the device and forever made a memory in not only myself but almost every child who grew up in the 90s.
I mean, tetris NES is like it, but most people who are into classic Tetris prefer NES. I think when you get used to any game, changing the frame data around will make it feel really off. It's more just what you're used to
This style of game is also just perfect for a compact handheld. A full Pokémon or Zelda adventure to take with you is great, but it's more commitment to play the game, you don't drop into and out of them on an instant like you can do with Tetris. If smartphones started featuring a little foldout/slide-out gamepad as common feature, or one which you could attach, but which kept a slim and flat form factor (rather than those big ones where you basically clamp your phone on top of a full fledged console gamepad), I think games like these could get a lot of popularity again. Kids are used to playing with touch screens, but these kinds of games just play better with buttons, and there's a lot of older people who played games in the past who would be far more inclined to play them on a phone if they could have normal buttons.
My Russian student first got the rocket in the early 90s. The whole family were proper impressed. After that I played for hours and hours to get that bloody rocket! Took ages but I did it. Nothing quite like it when you get the rocket!
Tetris did come with the GameBoy device in my case and actually that was the deal my parents got me to: Not ask for an extra game. Good friends would always share their cartridges though! Missed that feeling of community..
I'm not mad because I don't really care that much about the end but put a spoiler alert so people won't be rude and stuff in the replies because you spoiled it
OMG, this brings me back to many late nights with my game-boy light playing one of the best Tetris Versions ever! Nostalgia Overload! This guy plays like me too! Lolz! Similar style and only plays game A and Game B Lv9 Ht5! Brings me back! Thanks for making this vid!
Taste like hours of awesone fun. I want to cry. I still have my first and only Game Boy... but its dead... in her own same box in my old house attic. It is too fragile. Like good memories are.
I still have my original cartridge. Still play'n it on a Gameboy advanced. I remember getting the original Gameboy for Christmas, I think it was in 90. Only game I had was Tetris. Turned out the only game I needed was Tetris. I remember thinking," Yeah if I get a Gameboy for Christmas, then I'll get some better games later on." I eventually did get some other stuff, but I always mostly just kept playing Tetris.
@@dennismartin5821 i still have mine too. It was second hand and it was a present from a cousin from overseas in february 1992. Sadly stopped reading cartridges since 2003. But i assure that was enjoyed a lot not only by me but also my mother, brother, cousins and friends. Yeah back in the days kids share and take good care of toys. (Tetris, Donkey Kong, yoshi and a f-1 racing game). A reached lv 14 in tetris btw.😤
I just found my old Nintendo game boy along with some games mk3, Bart vs juggernauts, tmnt 3 radical rescue, and tetris I remember playing so much with them good simple life I used to had
Can never recreate that OG feeling with any of the other versions. Anyone else tempted to just buy a Gameboy, and superglue the cartridge right into the slot? You all know you're not going to need anything else. The Gameboy was literally The Tetris Machine - and it still is. No other version of it satisfies; this version was the premium timeless classic, that people will still be playing in the ruins of the post apocalypse. They will be playing it on Mars. It is The Dream incarnate, a work of art, given life.
The Gameboy version is the best Tetris. The music and sound is so perfectly done. You can feel the limitations of the Gameboy, like when the Tetris fall, the music is distorted by the soundeffect.
And do you remember that when you connected 2 game boys together with the cable for 2 player mode you increased the height of your opponents blocks when you got a 4 liner!
@@gboy64It was a SNES cart that you could put your Gameboy game in and play it on the SNES. That might be the name, but it's been so long I can't remember

I came to this video to tell you that they used footage of this Tetris video that you made on the Dutch news and they credited you 🙂 I thought I should notify you as maybe this news can bright up your day 💜
I have Tetris DX cartridge for my GB boy colour and my clone GB colour has Tetris (original ) built in. my Grandma used to play Tetris all the time on here gameboy color.
Just wondering… How in the name of Creation did you manage to capture your original Game Boy in this amazing quality? D’you have any special equipment (as in: cables, AV consoles, etc.) for it? I have both my original Game Boys in perfect working order (no batteries are currently installed) and would like to try this for myself if feasible… Great video!
need to find of copy of Tetris for my NES because all my game consoles mist have a Tetris game because Tetris is one of my favorite games and remained never to play you at Tetris I would lose
ratchet5500 video's If you want the really good one on the NES (and can find it at a semi-reasonable price), get the Tengen version. It's quite a bit better than Nintendo's one.
As a blind person, I could say that Tetris was completely inaccessible if you tried to use its sounds to play, for obvious reasons. In that sense, Super Mario Land 2 was much better; at least I could use the background musics' rhythms to go through the levels by trial and error.
POV: It’s a boring Monday at home after school, so you decide to get your GAMEBOY, your Mom and Dad are wondering where the double A batteries went, (maybe) your grandma is making you snacks while you play while standing at the window to get that perfect ray of sunlight in order to see, your score is so high, that even you, a Nintendo gaming master, are in disbelief, everything is perfect.
+Jack Lazzaro Blue is in green, so that certainly seems reasonable. The darker the green is, the less yellow will be apparent, right? I think that's how it goes?
Best part - playing it in your mind when you try to sleep after an 8 hour marathon on Christmas day

Who plays a gameboy for 8 hours straight? I'm lucky if it holds my attention for more than 30 minutes
It doesn't get much more iconic than Tetris. It wasn't just a game - it was a phenomenon, and it launched the Game Boy in a huge way.
NintendoComplete you ever going to do a voice or something for these?
Ninja Master I dunno. Maybe? Probably not.

The perfect pack in game for the gameboy because even parents at the time loved playing this game even more so than their kids.
