The My Way link is that David was working for a company as a lyricist and they had the job of writing an English version of that French original. David said his version was pretty below par. Over in the states Paul Anka wrote My Way and Frank liked it. David was miffed so he used the structure. He was a creative magpie. They are both awesome songs.

This is a challenging song to sing apart from playing. It's easier in the key of F and the chords are less challenging especially for the pinkie stretch!

Life on Mars blows away " I did it my way". Also the theme of questioning the sheepish banality of mass consumer culture and it's existential despair, is so much more poignant than Sinatra's self congratulatory ode.
