    My man, manhandling those leaves like nothing else...while I'm afraid to breathe on some of my Alocasias that are growing in a fancy humidity and temperature-controlled cabinet in my house. I love it...but I still don't think I'm going to try to crunch up any of my leaves. 🤣

    great video, thanks! can you show us how to pollinate an Alocasia to produce seeds?

    • @fordplants
      @fordplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to pollinate them. The wind does the job for me.

      @@fordplants pretty tricky if it's a houseplant though?

    • @fordplants
      @fordplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tedscott1478 shake the plant or the flowers. Or for cross pollination collect pollen and apply it on other flowers. Do this each day for 3 days. First the flowers are male, and later the flowers turn to femail.

    What is the lowest temperature leucocasia can stand please?
    Also can they be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse or in a cool garage maybe?
    I think I'd like one of these😊

    • @nobull772
      @nobull772 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in Florida, my leucocasias can withstand the weather year round- lows can reach mid to lower thirties for a few days out of the year. Their growth stunts in the winter though.
      Yes you can overwinter them, but they will look very sad without sunlight.

    What's the diffrence beetwen leucocasia laosy giant and thailand Giant? Beside of size of course. I have some small plants of each variety and cant recognize which one is which 🤣

    HI thank you for the video! I have one question though, selfish of me, but are the leaves of the leucocasia also edible like the cousins colocasia and alocasia? Also, another question, is the mature 'trunk' or root of the alocasia also edible? Thank you!

    I’m confused… I keep seeing that Leucocasia is the same thing as Colocasia and was renamed. Yours certainly look different. Any ideas?

      Its not the same. Leucocasia grows larger then any other colocasia

    If they came back 8 or 10 months later they didn't die, they just went dormant...

    • @fordplants
      @fordplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they do go dormant after they flower time is over.

    • @nobull772
      @nobull772 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fordplants Wait, they go dormant after they flower?? I’ve grown alot of leucocasias, but I’ve never seen one plant flower, and I really want to see one. Maybe it’s because I let them go dormant in the winter and replant in the spring, so they are all relatively young? I’m not as excited to know they go dormant after they flower though…

    • @fordplants
      @fordplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nobull772 hi, yes they go in a semi dormant stadium. They grow a lot slower and the leaves get smaller.
