this shows you don't need a 5 star studio to produce great music. All you need is passion and persistence...(and a spare £1000 for a good computer and a DAW)
Avicii,Afrojack,Arty,Arno Cost,Anger Dimmas,Bjonberg,Bobby Burns,Deadmau5,Feed Me,Madeon,Maor Levi,Norman Doray,Laidback Luke,Sidney Samson etc. are some of the biggest names in the EDM world and they all use FL Studio. Don't let people tell you that Logic or other programs are 'superior', its just practice, determination and experience!
Also, even though this video is already 4 years old and there's like no likely change he's going to read this. Thanks for posting this up Balazs, it reminds us up and comers that no matter how big we get, we're still just regular people and remaining humble and true to yourself is what success is all about.
@kasikpecah- I can guarentee you that, yes, this is his studio. Laidback Luke makes quality electro house, but you can hardly say his music is greatly mixed or mastered.
omg i can t believe it how he can do it all so simple, this guy's amazing and instead of laughing at it like the french guy, you should admire it and see him as an idol, he's definitely an idol 4 me
@Bugs1238 DJ sets, yes. ... Are you not aware that is what a lot of people use it for? Have you heard of Traktor Pro, it's used like that. Either way, DeadMau5 said he uses Nuendo and FL Studio in what I read (not that long ago). There was no mention of Ableton anywhere.
@beatsfrommars I just LOVE that LL loves FL studio (fruity loops indeed!). I'm going to try out that Kjaerhus software vst.. However, they were high at that moment..
Actually that is one of the biggest fibs of the industry. BUT they do get all the software pre-release. For instance The D-Cam synth squad didn't come out till 2009 but deadmau5 got it in 2006 and helped them make it better. But this video just inspired me big time, NO MORE EXCUSES PEOPLE laidback luke's studio is worth about 1,200 bucks, it just shows you got to be motivated and dedicate yourself. I had no clue the stuff I was bumping at 3am from him was made on FL studio. MAD RESPECT!
@mezzyhandz since the beginning of this year he changed from FL Studio to Abelton Live due to there is a better possibilty to play your set LIVE which is kind of impossible on FL studio.
Deadmau5 hasn't used fl for awhile, apparently he was on reason for a while and recently switched to ableton. As for madeon he's mainly on ableton too. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, the only major notable things to take into account is able tons session view and reason not being able to have external vst's and what not.
Sorry to disappoint you, but deadmau5 doesn't use only ableton, and depending on what he wanna do in some occasion he uses FL, and if i am not wrong he is using cubase now. So theres no "main" daw.
@bluecafe69 ah, i thought you meant LBL does not use ableton for Productions. i was aware of traktor pro, i guess i just pictured basic mixing amateurish mixing in my head using the basics of ableton lmao. thanks for the heads up.
My god...Madeon used Ableton in that video because he was not producing in that moment he was performing! He has said milion times he uses Fl,check it out on ImageLines website.Feed Me uses Fl too check it again in their website.Mau5 still uses it for the piano roll
@columthealmighty 1 Its not thre programs, Music Program is just a machine to controll the sounds and the plugins, 2 its not about hte program its about the person BEHIND the program, 2: Fl studio can use same plugins/stuffs as cubase protools ect to... So guys if u dont know dont say...
@patrickmisa i also used to think so! but when i learnt all the incredible things you can do with FL studio, i was quite amazed! the latest version is even more incredible. With some good plugins, you can so much with FL!
I've used PT 8 since it came out, I learned it very quickly and easily and I do like it. If i was recording traditional acoustic instruments/bands, it would be my sequencer of choice for sure. But trust me when I say that no-one in the dance world uses it. I really don't know why you're so surprised that people can make a whole track on FL on their laptop? Why shouldn't they be able to? I know plenty of people that have released tracks this way. I don't understand your argument...
@trancegenix you're right and people don't seem to understand that. it's like a painter who can paint with simple paints ect, and create a piece of beautiful art, opposed to a person buying the best of the best paint materials, and draws stick figures.
Let's face it, FL Studio is kickass for electronic music. I'm an audio engineering graduate. There, we used to use Sonar, Logic and Pro Tools. I have Sonar at home. None of those programs allow you to do what FL Studio's piano roll allows you to do with audio clips. Nor do their mixers allow you to do with midi what FL Studio's does. Granted, I prefer other DAWs for mixing more traditionally recorded music. FL's rendering quality is also second to none (as evidenced by SRC Comparisons).
download dfx mono maker...... put it in your master chain when equalising etc...then take it out. ...thats one way. i dont do it like that but its personal preference.
so how do you explain, for example, the many professional producers who do use FL then, if it is undisputed that FL sounds 'amateur', and that pro tools sounds 'pro'? for example, listen to the music of Spor. he's been at the forefront of drum & bass music for years. not even just 'pro', but an actual pioneer of the genre. how do you explain that? don't get me wrong, pro tools has its place. i wouldn't try any tracking tasks in FL, but equally i wouldn't want to make a dance track in PT.
I think people forget that DJ, producers, rappers, and artists in a whole are just regular people like the rest of us, they're just the ones who took a leap and got out of their bedrooms and started doing shit. More importantly FL Studio doesn't take up that many resources, that's why he;s using it. Most plugins are cross platform and available on every DAW. Just find the plugin he's using on his DAW and match it to your own.
I use FL Studio too but didn't know about the mono mastering... how do you do mono mastering ? Is it so much better than using stereo ? For people who think you can't get a great sound with FL Studio, check out my video, it was made with a built in synth and built in effects !!
He's stated he's only used it for the piano roll, he says he's always used a combination of Cubase, and Ableton. Neither of us should be commenting, because neither of us are Deadmau5 himself.
It is not impossible. He actually uses IT alongside Ableton and Cubase. There are many videos where he works with Fl.Also if you dont believe again search DeadMau5 « Power Users List - Image-Line
this shows you don't need a 5 star studio to produce great music. All you need is passion and persistence...(and a spare £1000 for a good computer and a DAW)
It doesnt matter what youre using. If you're good at it, you're gonna sound good. Period.
LOL i was about to say.
This makes me love Laidback Luke even more. It also gives me hope of one day becomming a great DJ XD
crazy how far things have come
That's just to show that equipment doesn't matter. What matters is knowing what you own like the back of your hand. And he knows FL Studio very well.
k, i understand now why laidback luke tracks and remixes have this dirty raw flavour i love so much.
Just goes to show - he produced some of the biggest hits in the world, in a bedroom. Fair play
this guys just made me feel so much better about my music ! omg !!!!! yes !!!! im so happy !!
Luke used to use FL Studio, but switched to Ableton a couple of years ago, as he could not handle using Windows any more.
Also, even though this video is already 4 years old and there's like no likely change he's going to read this.
Thanks for posting this up Balazs, it reminds us up and comers that no matter how big we get, we're still just regular people and remaining humble and true to yourself is what success is all about.
like laidback luke I had enough of PC too but im so glad that Fl Studio 12 is coming to MAC too.
It takes true talent to be such a dope producer with the simplest of gear, i love it!
@kasikpecah- I can guarentee you that, yes, this is his studio. Laidback Luke makes quality electro house, but you can hardly say his music is greatly mixed or mastered.
JOACHIM GARRAUD - ARE YOU READY (LAIDBACK LUKE REMIX) This is a Master Piece ! :)
damn laidback luke is the best !! I even wrote to him a few days ago from the forum on his site, and he actually replied !!!! O.o what a dude !
Best remix producer !
omg i can t believe it how he can do it all so simple, this guy's amazing and instead of laughing at it like the french guy, you should admire it and see him as an idol,
he's definitely an idol 4 me
i agree with AlekosView, laidback luke shows how fl studio is used at its best, he only has a small set up & yet he can produce this amazing stuff
Thats Joachim Garraud (ghost producer of David Guetta) and yeah so they are collegeaus
well said but its not ghost its enginer who work with guetta who can't play nd produce hhhhh
humble guy, great talent. It's all it takes to earn my respect.
adorable interview
@Bugs1238 DJ sets, yes. ... Are you not aware that is what a lot of people use it for? Have you heard of Traktor Pro, it's used like that. Either way, DeadMau5 said he uses Nuendo and FL Studio in what I read (not that long ago). There was no mention of Ableton anywhere.
@beatsfrommars I just LOVE that LL loves FL studio (fruity loops indeed!).
I'm going to try out that Kjaerhus software vst..
However, they were high at that moment..
its not what program u use!! but its how u use it..its all creativity in the end that will produce a banging track
i respect that he has such a simple set up, that guy is laughing but id be in awe
Actually that is one of the biggest fibs of the industry. BUT they do get all the software pre-release. I'm blown away :) This Laidback Luke guy is so cool, hehehe! Keep up the good work!
i spotted computer music 117 behind the transformer !
fantastic setup !
@mezzyhandz
since the beginning of this year he changed from FL Studio to Abelton Live due to there is a better possibilty to play your set LIVE which is kind of impossible on FL studio.
it's "Joachim Garraud", the producer of "are you readyy" !!!
Laidback Luke is not only a very nice DJ, he is a very sympathic person.
Hardwell said it in an interview, its up on TH-cam somewhere.
such a simple guy. couldnt tell by his awesome dj sets =)
もぅ、格好良すぎだろw Areeeee Yooooou Readyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!
It´s joachim Garraud, one of the pioneers of electronic dance music. It´s just obvious he´s teasing luke...
Very old video, but a 'REAL' DJ producer, this cats the real deal.
That comment about producing in mono is the first time I've heard someone say that, all my best stuff was in mono first.
Camera man is a douch, but Luke is an inspiration. Simple set up, 4 hours per song, what a smooth criminal.
Sorry to disappoint you, but deadmau5 doesn't use only ableton, and depending on what he wanna do in some occasion he uses FL, and if i am not wrong he is using cubase now. So theres no "main" daw.
@Redwanbeatz DeadMau5 uses FL Studio and Nuendo. He doesn't use Ableton! He has an interview with Imageline where he talks about everything.
It's not in the program you use or the equipment you have, it's the skill you have that counts.
Update: he's using Ableton now, he said it on his twitter.
@bluecafe69
ah, i thought you meant LBL does not use ableton for Productions. i was aware of traktor pro, i guess i just pictured basic mixing amateurish mixing in my head using the basics of ableton lmao. thanks for the heads up.

Lolz he said in many interviews that he uses every daw FL for making quik own loops etc.
but idd the final edits and compiling happens in Ableton.
@orangearmada the camera man is joachim garraud, a pioneer of house and electro music, so i assume they are friends.
@enzo1st Uh no... If he uses Ableton it's for DJing, not producing, because he did not mention it in the interview I read.
Such a real and honest guy
This show you that the stuff doesn't matter at ALL the producer can make a hudge sound with a minimal stuff
He's already great. I wonder how great he would be with Logic Pro 9.
THE KING!
@SiikPros I’m starting to realise this more and more, porter robinson uses FL, so does Avicii.
This is the origin of the phrase "It doesn't matter what you have, it's how you use it."
I can say I'm producer and I make music in parallel conditions... It's so nice to know I'm not alone with these terms.
@ElFudgeMusic even not huge mixers .. all you need is a midi keyboard and a pair of studio monitors and you're done!
Stanton DJ Pro 2000
@trancegenix
you're right and people don't seem to understand that.
it's like a painter who can paint with simple paints ect, and create a piece of beautiful art, opposed to a person buying the best of the best paint materials, and draws stick figures.

Hey Luke you rock man...see you in Crobar next week:)
Laidback Luke = Inspiration to amateurs and youngs producers
omg he is genius isnt he?
i mean with fl studio and in the bedroom no setup nothing..i think he is one of the best producers in this time..
download dfx mono maker...... put it in your master chain when equalising etc...then take it out. ...thats one way. i dont do it like that but its personal preference.
2021.....so....
great Producer !!! :)
No my dear.Avicii and Madeon have always been suing Fl and Deadmau5 still uses it for the piano roll, drums ideas etc
Dang... Laidback Luke is maddd laidback!!! his name is no joke!
This guy seems really cool, and his music sound pretty good!!
@gerardtrees1 here's something else you might not know. deadmau5 was a fl studio user to. lol.
so how do you explain, for example, the many professional producers who do use FL then, if it is undisputed that FL sounds 'amateur', and that pro tools sounds 'pro'? for example, listen to the music of Spor. he's been at the forefront of drum & bass music for years. not even just 'pro', but an actual pioneer of the genre. how do you explain that?
don't get me wrong, pro tools has its place. i wouldn't try any tracking tasks in FL, but equally i wouldn't want to make a dance track in PT.
now a days with a laptop you can do it all , and this in 2009..... imagine now in 2011...
I think people forget that DJ, producers, rappers, and artists in a whole are just regular people like the rest of us, they're just the ones who took a leap and got out of their bedrooms and started doing shit. @23pokrzywa. Laidback uke one of the top Dj's in the world!
love this guy
Deadmau5 uses both FL and Ableton. FL to draw quick ideas but Ableton to make the main if you watch his ustream
the camera man is joachim garraud, a good friend of his and a freakin' legend as well :)
he still uses it for drum tracks and imports the .wavs into ableton.
This is proof that laidback luke is an absolute musical genius
Deadmau5 used FL studio back in like...1998-2000. Since untill recently he has used Ableton Live, and now he uses Cubase.... -.-
because of LaidbackLuke I'll never change the FL as producing soft :X
What's the name of the original song of the sample from korgis ?
The Cameraman is Joachim Garraud actually.
i see he uses fl studio .glad to see artists using something other than ableton
about 95% in ableton, not taking anything away from fl studio but it's just the way it is
I use FL Studio too but didn't know about the mono mastering... how do you do mono mastering ? Is it so much better than using stereo ?
For people who think you can't get a great sound with FL Studio, check out my video, it was made with a built in synth and built in effects !!
JOachim Garaurd. Are you ready(Laid Back Lucke remx)
@assais try some demos and take your pick :)
FL's really good in my opinion
Con ke programa crean los sonidos?
Which with program they make the sounds?
He's stated he's only used it for the piano roll, he says he's always used a combination of Cubase, and Ableton. Neither of us should be commenting, because neither of us are Deadmau5 himself.
MUCH RESPECT LUKE!
Anyone got a link or no were i can download that kjaerhus audio plugin for FL Stduio???
It is not impossible. He actually uses IT alongside Ableton and Cubase. There are many videos where he works with Fl.Also if you dont believe again search DeadMau5 « Power Users List - Image-Line
you dont need massive equipment good music
he doesn't use FL anymore.
he use Ableton.
i would die if i could meet this guy!
no, he is talking about his VST Kajearhaus, or somthing like that, duno how to spell it. FL studio is defo not free
