Great video. Short, straight to the point, no long intro, no talking.

A video that provides help is always valuable. I searched for a video to assist me in resolving an issue with my 2017 MacBook Pro charger, and I found one that was published in 2016. Despite its age, the video proved to be beneficial in solving my problem. It had no complicated setups or flashy effects, just excellent content. The fact that it continues to aid users even after seven years since its release is remarkable. This is truly an outstanding video, and I appreciate the creator for making such a useful resource.

My charger looked exactly like this one at the beginning of the video.. Just confirming that after watching, I was successfully able to fix my Magsafe 2 charger doing exactly what this guy does, but I only used electric tape to hold the wires in place, hot glue to support the base, a pair of scissors, and a pretty small pair of pliers. Prying open the charger is a little tough at first, but everything else is pretty simple. So if you’re broke & need a quick fix don’t worry about buying all the extra tools & pieces. It can literally be done with stuff you already have laying around the house. 👍

Juul, your hands are of a great dexterity, and your mind, and your intellect is remarkable. Only 2-5% of self-help videos are so smart, brief, precise and useful. Thank you very much! The problem -- is time. As a busy woman I do not have time to do it immaculately like you do, and I'm not sure I'll solder the wires ends so well though I have somewhere a tool for that. So, I'll buy it to save my precious time. It was a pleasure watching your video!

Install a plastic wire tie around the wire bundle inside of the case, for strain relief. If it was longer, tie a UL knot. Either way, something is needed so it will resist being pulled out. Thanks for the video!

Sick Video, works without soldering the connections as well, noticed a lot of people saying they didnt have the tools, you can honestly do a way worse job of this but still fix it by just using electrical tape and braiding your wires. (full disclosure though this method is way more fragile but still renders a working mac Charger)

Thanks very much Juul. My MacBook Pro charger was in same condition. I was about to buy a new one costing roughly USD 100 here but then I came across this video. I followed (I am not electronics engineer) exact same step on my iPhone, prepared the wires, cut etc and using the help of a local electrician who just knew enough (i.e. soldering) I got my charger back in absolute working condition. Overall it cost me just 50 cents (for soldering).

How can you know due to contact between worn-out old wires, there is no short/blown fuse/ internal damage in the charger, before spending so much time to repair it?
Otherwise and minus cosmetic imperfection, You did a great job.

Half of the cosmetic steps this guy did,was to illustrate the "most thorough" way to go about repairing your cord. If you want to just twine it up ,tape it up and have it a lil ugly, that is up to you and is quite possible without doing everyting he does. So it really isnt that much work,You can do it.. This guy did a proper good job on this repair, minus the heatshrink(hard to look for in The Bahamas, where im at) i will be doing the same. Bless

For anyone who got confused with the wiring. He connected the outer metal wires (he used red shrinking tube for them) with the black cable in the transformator. So I think it's the ground cable. The inner tube with the white cable (probably power cable). It didn't get quite clear in the video and I had problems figuering it out. For me it worked out like that and my charger is up and running again. I hope I could help :)

Can't stress enough, though, that you have to know how to use a soldering iron and a little bit about DC electrical comings and goings. i.e. White to White - Black to Red.

Soldering Resin core + flux = $6.50 at home depot or lowes
I borrowed a soldering gun. Ask your neighbors.
My soldering job was terrible, I used electrical tape instead of heat shrink, and I broke the charging case when I opened it.
It looks ghetto, but it works. I saved $23 dollars (from a used one on ebay) and not gonna lie I feel kinda proud.

Great video and helped me repair mine. I however did it more simply as only the outer cable was severed. I got a length on the outer cable by stripping the casing top and bottom, twisted the ends and soldered them. Then I wrapped black electrical tape round it and hey presto! Now advised my family not the bend the connection so hopefully it would last. However should it break again then I still have your method as plan B!

Complete tool list would be useful
    Pliers to separate the mag
Wire cutters to strip wires at 0:36
Again wire cutter stripping and exposing metal inside wire at 0:50
    Heat shrink tubing
Using a lighter to...?... Keep the wires melty?
1:38 use box cutter to cut off part in the mag to expose the wires with a needle nose pliers and a wire clipper
2:00 use more heat tubing for...safety?
2:12 use unlabeled tool (clothespin and book would work I think?) To hold wires up for soldering
Soldering i think just melts the wires together and should be practiced a little beforehand but is probably doable
3:00 then use lighter to shrink wrap the tube?
3:24 this device right here almost would have made the younger me click out of this video. That is a weird looking device he chose to not label, and I've never seen a super glue gun look like that. Because that's all it is, super glue. Thankfully I was able to pause the video and read the bizarre brand of super glue he bought. But you could probably buy it at any dollar store. Most of this comment is just to set the record on that one.
After that is the hot glue ending.

There's no need to join the cable, just take the unit out the case and solder the stripped cord into the board like the original, though give the inner a good pull in case it case there are other fractures in the inner. I think these units are built to fail so Apple can sell us lots of new power supplies. Replacement magsafe plugs complete with cable are available in Ebay etc for about £5. Be careful though there are two types. Thanks for the tip with the pliers to bust the case open I did it with a sharp screwdriver.

I have done it so beautifully. :) so happy! mine looked like exactly like yours and my child pulled it cut it off from the cord. I have done all similar but except that I did not soldiering, rolled the coils together by hand and I found it strong like that and coz I don't have the kind of glue you had it at the end, I insert earphone cover plastic from the T side of the magnetic end and take it all down to the tip. It not only hold it tight but also make it look like original. It costs me 3 GBP. From UK! Apple must give you millions of dollars, I suggest! ;)
