This is one my favorite sports memories of all times. Michael Jordan suffering from the flu, barely able to stand up, needing to be held up and walked back to the bench by his faithful partner and companion Scottie Pippen---yet still able to miraculously shoot dagger after dagger into the hearts of the Utah Jazz. This is the heart of a champion--this is the definition of team work!!
And was also the only starter to shoot 50%+, if they won he'd be considered a hero in Utah Jazz history but now he is just known as the guy who got slapped by Shaq
10:14 Bill Walton "they post up Scottie and for no reason they double-team Scottie down low and leaving Michael Jordan". Ummmm it wasn't for "no reason" Bill. Pippen was destroying the Jazz in the post all game lol.
They were screwed either way. Pippen was tearing Hornacek up in the post that game. Jordan is Jordan, no explanation needed. Stockton had to choose between Kerr and Jordan. Kerr could've burned them on the 3 just like Jordan. Hornacek wasn't big/strong for a shooting guard but he was a tough, hard nosed defender back in those days.
It hurts so much to see MJ look so exhausted and sucking air. When you watch all the highlight reels then watch him here, you can see the difference. Then you watch what he was able to do, pushing through with pure heart and grit, and it's like...goddam. He was the general, and he went out there and led his team to victory. Games like this are what it takes to be the GOAT.
hey scottie this is always always vintage jordan at his best when hes that soooooo good thats why hes the greatest the true greatest of all time nobody but nobody do it better than jordan man do we all love him
Nope, because scoring wasn't his job, at least not his main job. He was there to be the best pound for pound rebounder ever, and be an absolute menace on defense. He shamelessly left the scoring to his teammates and did what he did best.
Contrary to what people have been lead to believe Jordan actually had food poisoning from Pizza he ate the night before. Ironically the pizza was ordered for Jordan, his trainer and Pippen but Jordan is the only one that ate. On a side note a ballboy for the Jazz actually was given Jordans shoes from that game by Jordan himself because the ballboy was able to bring Jordan his typical pregame Applesauce. Jordan even signed the shoes and in 2013 the shoes sold for $104,000....Nice!!
note2owns Lol I was so young at the time this game happened that I just took what the announcers were saying for granted. But food poisoning actually makes a lot more sense.
I've done some digging around and here's trainer Tim Grover giving ESPN an interview on the subject espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/9183990/michael-jordan-flu-game-was-really-food-poisoning-trainer-says. But anyways this just adds to Michael's legend in my mind, as anyone who's ever suffered serious food poisoning can attest: you don't even have the strength to crawl to the washroom, let alone play for an NBA championship lol.
I have to say yes. Isiah Thomas' performance in game 6 during the 1987 NBA Finals, playing on 1 foot, and giving all he got, is still, to me, the greatest performance in NBA Finals history.
Spurs fans made unmerciful fun of LBJ for that - until you remind them that LBJ has a repeat and the Spurs haven't come within a tinker's mile of one. Spursoholics reaction.....crickets......crickets.....crickets.
This game is like yesturday. I look at those fans and the pressure on the Bulls that game. Man!! that's some nerve rattling shit and Jordan, Pippen and Kukoc along with the others won that game. The competition is not the same as those days. Every kid should know who Jordan and Pippen is to know that Kobe and Lebron are like them. Hands Down give Respect where it's due.
Right are high? Look at Pippen stats he wasnt much of a offensive player. Lebron got the chance to play with dwade who was getting double team giving lebron more room to work. Watch when jordan on the bench and Pippen on the floor chicago have no fucking score, and the other team always took advantage for that. You must be a teen or something.
Duc Luc, are you stupid? I suggest you go look at Game 6 in this series when Jordan goes to the bench in the 4th qtr and the Bulls cut the Jazz's 10 point lead to 2. Or Game 6 of the '92 Finals when Jordan was on the bench cheerleading in the 4th qtr as Pippen and the bench cut Portland's 15 point lead to 3 before MJ came back in the game. And wasn't much of an offensive player? The guy only averaged 20+ points a game, grabbed 9 boards, and dished 6-7 assists for the first three Bulls championships in the playoffs dummy.
Scottie Pippen was they key to those championship runs. As great as Jordan was, the Bulls didn't get to an NBA Finals until Pippen developed into an All-NBA player. Without him, the Jordan might have won a 1 or 2 rings at best.
When y’all gonna put that on a t-shirt...Yall act like it’s a diss to say MJ needed another star player to win lmao.Nobody wins a championship by themself 🤦🏾♂️
Brian Boyle I took a flu shot back in November of 2001...a few days later...I was sick as a dog...coughing and spitting. I had no energy....but yet I had to work.. 8 unpleasant hours thinking about nothing other than to pay the bills and help provide for the family (like Jordan thought about nothing except winning this pivital Game 5 of the NBA Finals). Gained a far deeper respect for Jordan after THAT experience.
I loved Pippen, he didn't give a damn who you were, he's taking it all the way to the basket and you were a fool if you got in his way, lol. I hated that nikka Stockton, always making 3's outta' nowhere even when you thought you'd win a game against them in NBA JAM.
When your sick and got to go to work or go out with your girlfriend or if your real tired think about the flu game Jordan. It will make u have the will to not surrender to the sickness and tiredness.
Look at the attitude of those players from back in the day...Pippen throws it down and the players on the bench celebrate but nobody overacts. In today's league you see bench players jumpin all over the floor and acting as if they were in spring break vacation...It's a kids league....
try playing with the flu under pressure during the championship finals which you popularized around the world, as the star of a team which everybody counts on you to win games and then come back and talk
Jazz, you tried to knock him out on the sly, and you failed. Sit down and stay down. He still defeated you. 38 points while barely able to function or without being able to eat. This game confirms why he's the GOAT.
now i finally understand why they double teaming scottie pippen at the low post, and gave MJ the wide open 3 point. It is because pippen was hitting jumpers after jumpers on Jeff Honeck(I know I spelled it wrong).
I watch this every time I get the flu.
😂😂😂
BravoSquirrel BEST COMMENT EVER!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good comment

He had food poisoning not the flu!!!! Do hour due diligence BOZO😂🤡
It was just a hangover, not the flu ;)
@@mjrosinfood poisoning and it's much worst. Goat Stuff right there
Man, Kukoc was an X factor for this Bulls team. His final assist to Longley was pure gold.
Totally underrated IMO. Everyone talks Jordan, Pippen & Rodman, but the big man was just as vital with his long game.
@@RatelHBadger I concur
NBA on NBC! The good old days when Bulls ruled the 90's. :)
Yes miss those days so much
DjJokerr i miss this era!!!!!
Never forget that best time to a nba fan back then
Best era of my life BY FAR…90s NBA on NBC is one of the most nostalgic memories I have.
Michael Jordan = EPIC.
yeah, i think you searh EPIC in the dictionary and you get MJ's photo
I dearly miss 1990's NBA games.
Mj is the greatest of all time
Ostertag had a great game. 13 points, 3 blocks and 15 rebounds. I feel bad for him, that no one will ever talk about that.

That's still not a good enough reason to forget about the greatest player to ever play the game and leave him wide open
AxeSmashDemolition IK, people be sleeping on Pippen
SchmeichelP No it wasn't because they lost the game 😂
The most heart stopping game I've ever watched in my life. Amazing finish indeed.
god damn Scottie!!! 2:06 he was always my favorite player.
Scottie was a beast !
He looked back at Malone as if to say, "really? GTFOH!" LOL.
I fucking loved SP dunks. My favorite dunks, even over Jordan's. And that's sayin a lot.
My favorite Pippen dunk all time
DANG man memories i remeber when this theme song would come on every time when a game was about to start.. miss the 90's...
Can't find any suitable word to describe my admiration for this Chicago team.
Pippen had one of the best bank shots ever!
I was so scared for them in this game! But Jerry Sloan himself even said after Game 4 that Jordan would not let the Bulls lose. He was right.
The greatest individual performance in history of professional sport's IMO. This game showed the world why he was considered The G.O.A.T
Kukoc deserves more appreciation. He delivered a great game here.
I remember watching this game like it was yesterday. 9:49 will always been one of those moments i'll remember.
Hey dear.
How are you doing today?
Pippen was hands down one of the greatest "in game" dunkers
This is the best quality I've seen on TH-cam for this. Good job man!
the pizza boys in Utah poisoned mj I bet they watched this game and was like omg he is not human
Hassan Abdallah lol
Hassan Abdallah did they really??
Jonathan_resort ya
They tried a dirty move and he still beat their favourite team. GOOD.
He had a hangover lol
I never forget the NBA on NBC theme good memories this shows doesn't matter how you feel always make sure your team does not lose

2:04 second best dunk of Scottie's career after walking over Ewing
Scott peppin care care with mjjj so kind Scott 👋👋👍👍👍👏👏👏🤩🤩poor mj he got flu
Did anyone laugh when the commentator said "Theres Dennis Rodman getting his first field goal from 3 games"
Nope, because scoring wasn't his job, at least not his main job. He was there to be the best pound for pound rebounder ever, and be an absolute menace on defense. He shamelessly left the scoring to his teammates and did what he did best.
9:33 “You got to foul right now. You got to foul. Karl Malone, what are you doing???!!!”
LOL! That right there may have cost the series for The Jazz.
That and his missed free throws in games 1 and 5
Malone got distracted by the 13 year olds who were watching the game court side, it was Phil Jackson's plan to distract him 😂😂
@@Carbun4732 😆 Could be…
4:00 Scottie Pippen's bank shot against Hornecek.
The Muhammed Ali of the NBA being his clutch self. When it mattered most, he gave his best.

Yes... Isn't that obvious from our comments here?

I have to say yes. Isiah Thomas' performance in game 6 during the 1987 NBA Finals, playing on 1 foot, and giving all he got, is still, to me, the greatest performance in NBA Finals history.
We're NOT done with the 90's!!!
Rodman rules. first points in 3 games yet he's still in the starting line up. There's more to the game than just scoring points..
9:32 what the hell was Karl Malone thinking?! Foul Pippen and get him on the line man! But Bulls executed that last play to perfection
"You gotta foul right now, you gotta foul...Karl Malone, what are you doing!" Great call from the late great Bill Walton!
I think Karl Malone wanted to force an 8 second backcourt violation, which is a very stupid move
LeBron James has it's own version:THE CRAMP GAME!!(2014 NBA Finals)
Lmao!!!
ROFL, yet so true!

I had to thumbs up this vid just for the old school NBA on NBC intro
Getting out of bed is rough when you got a bad case of the flu Mike is inhuman one of the most driven hardest working athletes ever

Michael wouldn't have gone so far without Scottie, that's for sure. One of the best few players both on offense and defese sides!

Malone choked big-time.
