    ⚡️⚡️ UPDATE - Oct 15, 2020 ⚡️⚡️
    A129 is going strong as my budget pick. The A129 DUO Plus has been released which has sharper 1440P front video quality. Good upgrade, costs more. I would avoid the A129 DUO PRO - too many problems and not enough benefits with 4K video quality.
    I also released a video on our new $100 pick the Crosstour CR900: th-cam.com/video/oaUY_yB5erw/w-d-xo.html I compared the A129 DUO and you can use that video to have a better understanding of dash cams.

      I had bought the Viofo A119s based on your recommendation and it worked great for about 2.5 yrs (it had failed just last week). I will likely take your recommendation and get this A129 duo. Thanks for the great info!

    After shopping for a week for a dash cam, this was the hands-down best review of any camera I've seen. Not because it's the best camera, because it's the best reviewer. Clear, intelligent, and to the point. I wish I was shopping for dash cams for frequently so I could watch your videos more lol.

      I read on several Amazon reviews and Reddit comments that if you hardwire the A129, you HAVE to manually turn recording on when you start your car back up. Did you find this to be the case and do you know any workarounds? I have a family member who had a stroke and though all is fine, their short term memory is spotty so I can't trust they'll remember to turn recording on every time.
      P.S. Thanks for bringing some sanity to the shopping experience. You read the 1 and 2 star Amazon reviews and find out so many companies pay for 5 stars. Other review sites don't run the cameras for any length of time and just check video quality. You folks really are the best!

      Xavier Mayes I am using it just like that with a special holder designed for smartphones only but it fits to record passengers when i drive uber. Look for reticam xl on amazon and for the tripod connection, i am using an arkon handlebar mount which attaches to the rear view mirror arm. Furthermore, i turned the rear camera to face inside. Check out this video where i had an incident with a passenger. I have a 3 camera setup with the A129 duo only to record passengers and the A119 as the front dash camera: th-cam.com/video/fUeigxfSwek/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for the great video. I just bought the A129 DUO Plus, my first dash cam. Was watching various videos and seeing how good the video quality (for the price) is on the A119V3, but wanted dual cam. The 4K Pro version cost a lot more and in many situations the video quality wasn't as good. And I'd rather 60fps than 4K 30 anyway. So I settled on the DUO Plus. Watching your video I was suprised about the 1080p+1080p then realised you covered the A129DUO on the the DUO Plus, which I then saw mentioned in your description. Although these have been out for awhile, in Australia with my budget and current sales, I think I should be happy enough with the A129 DUO Plus. Thanks for the comprehensive video though - very good vs other videos I've watched.

    The biggest problem with all dashcams that they are so visible from outside. I don't care if the dashcam will record thieves I'm just worried that thieves may break my car only to steal the dashcam itself. This problem is been solved by Mercedes which started to apply an optional built-in dashcam. Every single car sould have at least a special place (with universal dimensions) behind the mirror for applying a dashcam when needed.

      I tried this cam for a week and was frustrated from the video quality for both the front and the rear cams. If you already have viofo A119, you can buy another A119 and use it as a rear cam. The A119 is a real 2k cam, however the duo version is 1080. An alternative if you want the parking mode, is to try the DDPAI mini3, an amazing 2k dashcam with even better night vision than viofo, parking mode as the viofo duo version that automatically kicks in as long as a constant power is provided. You can DDPAI mini3 for less than $100 on Amazon with some coupons

      DarthMaul41 you are correct..Apologies I had the models swapped around in my 1st statement..quality was great with A119 but when it packed up under a year I returned it and got the A129 due to rear camera bonus as bumper bashing are very common. During the day the A119 is sharper because of the higher resolution. At night the dynamic range on the A129 is better meaning you can capture license plates and the surrounding environment better.
      @USC Thanks I'll check out the Mini3. I tried out the MIni2 and while I was impressed my main issue is that they haven't invested much out of China. Warranty support is limited and IMO one of the main reasons people get frustrated with dash cam brands.

    Thank you for your great review. It sold me that this was to be my next dashcam. I've had my cam for 2 months now without any problems. Installation was a snap after watching your review knowing to use the app to set up rear cam and knowing to make sure the defroster line wasn't in the view of the cam like it was in your review ;) LOL. Only thing I'll add here about the app on a iPhone is initially the live view does not work. You have to put your iPhone into airplane mode and then turn on only the wifi. Then and only then can you see the live view. I highly recommend this dashcam too.

    Stupid camera only uses Micro SD cards formatted in fat32. My PC today only uses NTFS, PC won't read fa32. So, I have to remove the dash cam from my car, plug it in directly to my PC and then it reads the Micro SD card. Problem is I want to move the files on the Dash Cam to my PC. I was using a 128GB Micro card, the PC system said during the file transfer that it will take longer than 1 day to transfer. Absolutely not workable, stupid, maddening issue no one tells you about. Doesn't matter at all how good the images are that the camera takes if you are not able to work with the video files conveniently. What kind of idiots could not even foresee this.

    • @jayare9160

    • @Philjj61
      @Philjj61 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine it is better to check if your PC would process FAT32 cards as most dash cams use this system. All the info will be in the description and specifications which won't help if you don't know what they mean. You should be able to get a software converter program so your PC can do a much faster job than the camera's onboard converter.

    Very thorough reviewer! I appreciate the hard work you put into this. The market is flooded (has been) with rexing products. I a avoided the brand myself and purchased a ddpai dash cam which now seems to be completely obsolete. That's my main problem with all these off brands, they never survive long enough to provide true valuable product integrity. Rexing however has been around for a while. I've only just heard of viofo, Amazon has a weird way of pushing specific products to the forefront while neglecting other choices that are probably better in quality and price.

  • @KahanisGoldenBytes

    Your videos really did help me with a ton of information and helped me decide on a dashcam.
    I got a 129.
    Apart from all the good things and short comings covered here, I felt a couple of things were missing and which were important for me.
    I wanted to have a 4 side coverage. Since there are none such around (at least I could not find it), I decided to go for 2 dashcams with a dual (front & rear) cameras. So in all 4 different views from 2 different dashcams (front & rear twice). Here is where I ran into a couple of issues that were important for me.
    1.I cannot connect 2 different Viofo Dashcams to my Viofo App on my mobile app simultaneously. This is the case if both were Viofo Dashcams. I will have to decide which of the two I want to connect my mobile to. Alternatively, I will have to buy myself another mobile phone connection and then have both the Dashcam recordings in two separate mobiles.
    2. The second is that I cannot connect a single A 129 to two different mobiles simultaneously. Say if I were to loose my mobile, my 2nd mobile would have all the recordings (even though the loss of my mobile would be bad, my recordings may just save the day).
    Imaginary/ Hypothetical ? Not really.
    I actually have this on a GPS tracker that I use. 2 different devices (like 2 different dashcams). Their mobile App can store (and therefore track) multiple devices to a single app. Additionally, I have this on 2 different mobiles (not sure if it can be added on more…did not need it on more). Not that I am in any way connected to it nor am I being sponsored to say so, but OneLap Go is one such (there could be more)….So I am speaking from the experience of using multiple trackers on a single mobile app and the use of tracking on different set of mobiles simultaneously.
    My plan is to travel a lot across different regions that speak different languages and under different governments…hence…. So now I have to decide how I wish to go about the 2nd Dashcam to ensure 4 side coverage - any dashcam other than a Viofo or to live with 2 mobiles each capturing one set of dashcams.

    If you live in area where winter temperatures are below -5 *C and park outside, viofo wont start til its warm in car (about 10min of driving) and you can forget about parking mode thats not gonna happen. But in summer it works fine. Another big minus is that viofo dont have G-sensor parking mode only. You cant turn off motion detection when you want G-sensor parking mode. So your camera is always on when parking near road.

  • @AwkwardPanda94
    @AwkwardPanda94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello Andrew,
    Thank you for the dash cam reviews as always. What do you think about using power banks for dash cams in parking mode? Could you please make a video on it? I read your blog on how you don't recommend using power banks because they do not sustain well in abnormal temperatures. But our car battery will drain faster if we don't use a power bank? What are your thoughts?

    • @Lam
      @Lam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the best option is to get a lithium-iron-phosphate battery like the Cellink NEO or the Thinkware IVolt but they're expensive. The only other option is a powerbank (unless you want to buy your own lead-acid battery and keep it charged) and yes there's a risk of fire. Another option is to use a camera like the Thinkware F770 with a low-power parking mode that only activates on imapct.
