Here’s a long list of tips that I’ve accumulated to help raid the Ancient Cities and escape the Warden: Items recommended: 1. Night Vision potions-While drinking/eating anything creates sound, it’s still a good idea to drink them instead of placing torches to avoid setting off sensors. 2. Good armor-Now, if the Warden is attacking you, you’re probably screwed but it doesn’t hurt to be well prepared. 3. A hoe-Hoes mine scull faster than any block so it’s best to bring a hoe(If you want to collect the sculk silk touch is necessary) 4. Something to help escape the Warden-Potions of Swiftness, ended pearls, and Elytra are all viable methods to escape. (Do note Elytra usage creates noise) 5. 2-3 stacks of wool-Placing and breaking wool doesn’t create noise and you can run and jump on them so they make good building blocks. Vibrations: Pretty much anything creates vibrations ranging from walking, jumping, breaking, placing, opening chests, etc. Vibrations travel the same distance so breaking and opening chests create the same amount of noise.(Different noises do produce different red stone strengths from Sculk Sensors.) Wool does block out sounds so use that to your advantage. Sculk Shriekers: These are what you have to worry about. They get set off whenever either a nearby Sensor detects sound and sends a vibration to them, whenever something steps on them, and when they receive a red stone signal. Wool does prevent sensors from alerting shriekers if you put wool in between a sensor and shrieked. It is also worth noting that only player sounds set off shriekers so while a zombie walking may trigger a sensor, that sensor won’t trigger a shrieker. (Although Wardens will still kill any mob that isn’t a fellow Warden) Shriekers spawn commonly around chests so be careful when looting them and do be warned that there will be situations where you can’t loot a chest without setting off a shrieker do to multiple shriekers. If you do set one off, try to break as many as possible. Shriekers will spawn a Warden if you set them off 4 times. Each time will give you Darkness and the Warden will get closer. You can use subtitles to see how many times you’ve set off the Shriekers as the subtitles will say how close the Warden is every time a shrieker is alerted. The first time is “Warden approaches”, I forgot what the second one was, and the third time is “Warden draws close”. Of course, the fourth time is when the Warden spawns. The Warden: As you likely already know, you shouldn’t fight the Warden. It is a nightmare to fight and only drops a single Sculk Catalyst and only five xp so even if you do kill it you won’t get much. When the Warden emerges, it is completely invincible but it also can’t here or smell you while emerging so take that time to run as far away as possible. Ideally you’ll want to run for the halls of the City as they are lines with wool you can continue running on. When the Warden finishes emerging, start sneaking if you aren’t on wool and try to get away. The Warden will try to smell for you if it can’t hear you. It can smell up to 24 blocks away and will walk towards anything it smells. It’ll only smell when something is in range so if it’s not smelling anything then it’s either fighting you or you’re far enough away. In terms of when the Warden gets mad, it actually takes the culmination of multiple things to upset it. Noises produced by the player and if it smells the player within 6 blocks of it build up a meter. Once that meter gets filled up it’ll get upset and will instantly lock on to the player’s position and after roaring(it will lean forward and through its arms behind itself when it roars) will chase you down even if you stop producing noise.. One things to note is that while throwing projectiles is recommended in a pinch, if you are constantly throwing them then the Warden will get really angry really quickly. Also if you hit the Warden or if it touches you it will automatically get upset at you. If the Warden corners you and there’s not much you can do escape, you can use wool to build up. While it may still smell you, as long as it isn’t mad you’ll be safe. You’ll to build up until you’re out of its smell range which may require you to start digging into the roof of the cave. Don’t try and attack it while above it, however, it does have a range attack called “Sonic Boom” which completely ignores armor and enchantments, shields, and goes through walls. The attack does have a limited range but I wouldn’t test it. If after a minute it doesn’t smell or hear anything, it’ll dig into the ground although the next time you set off a shrieker the Warden will be summoned again. Loot you want to look for: The three items exclusive to the deep dark are swift sneak(max level 3), fragments of disc 5(you’ll want nine of them to complete the disc), and echo shards to make a recovery compass(you’ll want 8 of them). While not unique to the deep dark, enchanted golden apples and other side also have relatively high spawn rates in Ancient City chests. Also Sculk can be mines for xp and if you mine a lot, you’ll get dozens upon dozens of levels. That’s pretty much everything I could think of but if you can think of more stuff feel free to tell me. Sorry for the long comment but I wanted to be thorough. Have good day and happy exploring!(Also if anyone wants, I can make a comment detailing the best way I’ve found to find Ancient Cities.)
If wool makes no noise, will it muffle or stop noise? Place wool completely around sensors. Then once all the sensors are covered in wool, go back around and collect your loot. It’s only a theory I just came up with but might it work?
@@jaegerolfa That definitely could work although not in every circumstance. Sometimes sensors and shriekers will be right next to each other or there will be too many sensors and shriekers for that to be practical. Also, I don’t know how true this is, but I have heard that Sculk sensors(not shriekers though) can spawn underneath Sculk blocks. Still definitely worth trying the method you suggested when possible.
Wool. Stacks of wool to walk on. Wrap chests in wool before opening. If the warden shows, stack up 16 high….his range attack doesn’t reach past 16 blocks. There’s a secret series of rooms under the portal frame inside which are redstone teaching sets. Shriekers are still everywhere, and sometimes sensors and shriekers are hidden by skulk blocks, which do not block signals, so a shrieker can go off and you can’t see it, which is scary. There’s not enough room in there to stack up 16 high, so don’t get caught by the warden, in there.
the deep dark biome appears under Y: 0 or a little bit up, but not so near of surface. the surface biomes i recommend you are snowy and with mountains such as grove, jagged peaks, frozen peaks or snowy slopes. if you dig down (or if you search a cave) probably you will found the deep dark biome, and, with luck, you will find an ancient city. Ancient cities appear at Y: -52. when you are at the deep dark or at an ancient city you should use wool to deny the vibrations of sculk sensors or shriekers or to run over it with confidence. Sculk shriekers can be activated if you walk over it, if a sculk sensor is activated near there or if you make any noise near it. a strategy i use is cover the sculk shriekers with wool and then with a hoe (the best tool to break sculk) i break them if there's not any other sculk shrieker near. the sculk shriekers will give you 4 warnings, at the 4th the warden will emerge from the floor. The warden will smell you if you are near, he when he do this he will give you the darkness affect for around 12 seconds (you can change it in accessibility settings, darkness pulse), if he hears you he will run at you, if he doesn't catch you he will make a sonic boom, it deals 5 hearts, it doesn't matter if you have protection IV netherite armor, it deals the same, shields do not work for stopping the sonic boom. the warden recharges the sonic boom every 3 seconds. if the warden does not detect any sound for 1 minute he will disappear. you should carry a lot of night vision potions. Some of the loot: echo shard, disc 5 fragment, potions of regeneration II, Enchanted golden apples, all type of enchantments, enchanted diamond hoe, sculk block, sensor, catalyst, shrieker, anchanted diamond armor (the only one i found is diamond leggings), bottle o' enchanting, compass, etc.
Watching you wander carefree and noisy in the Deep Dark at first, and then the chest breaking, was nerve wracking…. 🫣 This was the most fun I’ve had watching someone enter an Ancient City! I kept bursting out with advice and warnings!😅 Thanks for sharing the anxiety and excitement and newness! Gg!
Listening to Marloe's voice get shaky and panicky from just being in the city was HILARIOUS! Omg I had to pause several times to calm down enough to listen to your commentary.
the warden was SO FREAKING SCARY!!! I screamed when the warden appeared. good job to Mojang for introducing the warden. while I am not keen on trying to make the warden appear, I just wanted to look at the loots in the ancient city. ps. man the warden was really really scary. O.o
Great video! I guess I should pay attention to updates. After coming upon some pretty new and interesting blocks deep down, I was surprised by sudden darkness and then scattered all over a cave floor by a powerful force without means of recovering my stuff. One hit, I died. I wasn't scared. I got pissed! I wasn't wearing anything particularly expensive, as I tend to fall into lava, and I didn't lose much as I carry an ender chest and save my goodies from time to time. Still I was miffed, so I did the research. Poking around in the same area again, I came across an Ancient City. It is now my life mission to eradicate this cancerous infection from the City and restore it to its proper glory before the builders' discovery of skulk and their unintended arousal of this ancient balrog they called the Warden. I can't take the Warden on in a face to face confrontation, it's too powerful. But I am persistent enough (and I have a crap ton of picks) to destroy it's environment... I win.
I think there is a trick with wool you could use. You can block the noise by placing wool blocks around the chest. But you did a pretty good job anyways!
Yesss!! I was so excited when i got a notification that you uploaded :D haven't watched you for not so long (couple of weeks)but im glad im here again.
Nothing like seeing a Marloe video on a calm June afternoon :) Even if the Warden isn’t calm. I love this! I think the Shrieks have a 10 minute decay timer. If you trigger 3 of them before that internal clock disappears, the warden comes. So you should remember that when coming to the cities. Maybe Night Vision Potions would also be good
It’s very nice and cozy when you tell us about your little trips! I get that your not the most openly personal person on here ( I wouldn’t be either) but it’s like a little tradition for you to tell us about it, which I really like. Still remember when you went to Norway and Iceland,
I went to the ancient city for the first time today. I found that if there are any shriekers nearby a chest and there is no way to access it without waking the Warden, just break the chest collect the loot, run away and build to the roof of the cave you are in. Then just wait for the Warden to despawn. Also, I kinda wish I knew this before I died twice to the Warden, but if you are in a situation where there is a chest around a bunch of shriekers, the better option will be to surround either the skulk sensors with wool or the chest.
Your voice is so relaxing to listen to. I'm so sorry I watch your videos during bed time so I fall asleep because your voice is so relaxing. But I rewatch them during the day :)
This just shows that Ancient Cities need better loot! The compass and enchantment are fine but not worth the Warden. The armor isn't even diamond. If it was diamond armor enchanted with mending (same with tools) then it would be worth the risk early game. A new weapon would be cool loot. I think the last weapon we got was the trident. Echo shards could also be giving another use. Perhaps, add them to a shield to get an Echo Shield which lets players deflect the Wardens sonic boom. The attack would still do knockback in order to stop players from pillaring, but it would give them a chance to avoid the attack. I could brainstorm a lot for it. I'm not sure if I'll visit an Ancient City because idk if it's worth it yet. Btw, just a reminder, Quick Sneak is an enchantment for leggings not boots. Idk if you know this.
Yes finally another episode to watch from the most amazing person that is good at building (alongside Grain tbh), I hope you enjoyed your trip, I have 2 days left of School thank god and 3 exams left! So I am very happy but my best friend betrayed me but I'm still holding up alright, I got a nice gf as well! Also I got a question for you, how long do you plan to keep this world for? Because I feel like you have so much more to do and the way you've not given up on this world is really inspiring.
Jeez, I’m even more nervous of going to the deep dark now. 😩 Also, how much of a nerd are you when the first thing that crosses your mind when you get shown a picture of Matterhorn is: “Wow, that looks just like Minecraft”…

the warden is just too strong he beats everything in minecraft

Why didn't you enchant your leggings with swift sneak 2?
The enchantment technically makes your sneaking speed as same as the normal walking speed.
I didn’t have an anvil with me at the time :)
But you you went back to your base and you had an anvil there, wouldn't be cool to show you fans the new enchantment? ;):)
Theneocubest also fought the warden but 6 times in hardcore minecraft
oh yea I forgot the warden can smell you if he's to close
