Ben Franklin was the brains behind Independence, George Washington was the face of independence, Thomas Jefferson was the author of independence... and John Adams was the voice of independence.
John Adams is a greatly underrated Founding Father

It is so clear in that statement, how much they idolized the roman republic. Whom also took great pride in their land being governed by laws ratified by their senate, rather than laws imposed by a monarch. Though I think it was Cicero that said. "All three forms of government: Monarchy, aristocracy and democracy can be found in Rome." Off course, Rome ended up becoming an oligarchical empire in the end, that fell under its own weight; a frightful fate I dread to see the current USA to fall into, a fate even more so feared, given its current state of affairs.
Best of luck and hope from Norway.

With these 3 words at 1:42 - "not an empire" - every American must hang his head in shame to see how far his country has fallen from the ideals of its founding. The USA has become the very thing it was created to stand against. By becoming the policeman \ bully \ terrorist of the world, toppling regimes the world over, conducting drone strikes that have a 90% civilian casualty rate, and imposing sanctions that resulted in the starvation deaths of 500,000 Iraqi women and children (which Madeleine Albright said was "worth it") the USA has become as oppressive as the British Empire of the 18th century.
It is now time for another revolution. Every right thinking American who holds the founding ideals dear must rise up against the military-industrial complex and say "No More!" to any regime change wars. Let each sovereign nation have the freedom to chart its own destiny, just like the USA chose to do in 1776. If it continues down this path, its collapse and ruination is inevitable. Such has been the fate of every empire in history. Act now before it's too late to prevent the nuclear apocalypse!

I confess that I myself have given in to the natural human behavior of taking things for granted. However, come to think of it, my heart feels great appreciation, admiration, and indebted to our founding fathers for their bold and curageous actions. They have given me a privilege that not everyone has, even in the 21 century: the right and freedom to an education. From my perspective, I would much rather be doing homework than running for my life in a war torn country or a nation plagued of disease or famine with no resources to avail the common man. With that said, I will now turn off youtube and study for my upcoming exam in US History (no joke).

This series, or at least this entire episode, should be required viewing in every high school and college classroom. These were not just "old white men" and we were not founded on racism or slavery or genocide or any of that other crap that's being taught to kids these days. They want the freedom to speak their mind and protest, yet then want to dismiss the very document which allows that freedom as nothing more than an archaic piece of parchment. I fear that my generation (Gen X) was the last to be taught what America TRULY means.

To my fellow Americans reading this, I hope you realize how so incredibly fortunate we are as citizens of these free and prosperous United States. Although I must confess that I may often fall into the natural human tendency to take things for granted, it is because of men like these that I am reminded of how grateful I should be for where I am today, specifically speaking: a free country which provides the stability and resources to go to school and have a nice home among other commodities. In a way, I feel that I am indebted to all those throughout history (including our founding fathers) who have fought so dearly for my rights and freedom. I feel obliged to make the most of this one life I have and to fill it with goodness, love, and happiness. That is why everyday until death I swear to do my best as to not let the efforts of these men die in vain. I shall prove with my actions and aspirations what it is they fought and staked their lives for. That being said, PEACE OUT! I have to go study for a US History test :)

He's definitely my favorite President, as none of this would have been possible without his bravery and his many, many sacrifices.

What is missing is that in order to have a glorious revolution there were friends, neighbors, and relatives who disagreed. People who had lived in the British colonies for generations were terrorized and assaulted for being on the 'wrong' side of a mob. They were forced to swear loyalty oaths and those who did not were often disarmed and had property confiscated. Many who ended up fighting on both sides of the revolution did not want revolution. They were forced into it. Some became loyalists, some became fence sitters and switched back and forth. Some were greedy parasites and used the revolution to settle old battles, and to steal what they coveted from neighbors. We get a one-sided story because only one side wins, but the stories do not tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. John Adams is one of my favorites out of the founding generation. We share a set of great grandparents. But we also share relatives who were on the wrong side of history merely because they did not agree with others.

The mini-series John Adams is a great show.
A lot of people say it was George W., Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and others who were the ones for the Independence. I DO NOT dispute it.
But, in MY OPINION, OUR 2ND President * John Adams had a lot to do with it. If it wasn't for his stubbornness, strong-will, and drive for it, I don't think we would of had it when we did : He doesn't get enough credit for it :

The best of all founding fathers, one of the absolute first to want independence. The first to speak up and the true leader in convincing the other founding fathers to agree to it. His visit to France sure not the most successful but his visit to the Netherlands was. He was the main reason America exist today. Without him independence would never have happened in the first place.
