    Is there any major advantage to writing on paper (spread over the board, as done in this lecture) compared to writing on a black/green board with a chalk as done in MIT classrooms? I see a few disadvantages with using paper: (1) cumbersome to write with the paper flexing/moving when writing, (2) unable to correct mistakes without striking out the errors.
    To me, using paper is like going back in time.

    • @tratbagd4500

      Agreed

    • @sonnykoh3049
      @sonnykoh3049 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Ironic you mention going back in time because this is a whiteboard not paper. The whiteboard is simply really long and can loop around. A blackboard with chalk is much harder to erase and make quick corrections than a marker on a whiteboard and cannot loop around. And for the writer, pens are much easier to hold and have no chalky residue and have little friction.
      There's a reason why blackboards were replaced with whiteboards in the 90s. I haven't seen a blackboard in school/uni my entire life.

      @dffrnttd9474 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As Sonny pointed out, it's not paper, it's a whiteboard. When I watch MIT videos I'm always slightly baffled at the nostalgic blackboards and chalk. The sound is much better when writing, easier to erase, not dust etc with whiteboards. Whiteboards are probably better but both can do the job.

    • @sn5953

      @@dffrnttd9474 @Sonny Koh : I agree with you both about the advantages of the whiteboard compared to the black/green board and chalk. But, mainly what I was talking about is the flexing of this paper-like material on which the professor was writing. Every time he puts his pen onto this paper-like material, it sinks a bit (for example: at 7:34), plus all the trouble that the professor had moving this board up/down (for example: at 8:33). I think the professor's not-so-good (though perfectly legible) writing has to do with the infirmity of the surface of this material. Having not watched the professor erase anything on the board (I did not make it until 9:18 the first-time around, where the professor does erase something), I thought this was was more like a slightly thicker paper (more like the paper we call kg-cardboard around my place).

      @@sn5953 Ahhh I see what you mean, I agree. His whiteboard is very crappy, they're usually not like this and have a solid backing not the air gap this guy is dealing with, but I definitely see wwhat you mean now.

    Formulas without parameters will be harder to understand.
    Otherwise, looks like playing with "letters" and not show real result.
    I think this will be much easier to learn for students.

      Just watch any lecture by Gilbert Strang as contrast.

      Just remember that this is not a physics lecture, but a first year mathematics lecture and the actual derivation and interpretation/meaning of that equation is not very important as opposed to the tools and techniques of solving it.

    Your teachings if prime time physics us the laws if french physics founders if the late 29 century .but like for the principles of heat waves applied in only one datas materials do your physics does not applied to multi principles if variable concepts of multidimension kelvin laws .some like it cold some like it hot but in the end is just a broken rod or else.
