Good as that was, it doesn't really begin to give you a clear idea of his amazing range. He's not only an amazing singer, he's one of the nicest, most humble people you could ever meet. Ik ben 60 jaar en heb alles meegemaakt van Beatles, ABBA, Queen, BeeGees en nog veel meer maar volg Dimash al 4 jaar en hij heeft mij volledig in zijn greep. Alle liedjes van alle groepen of individuele zangers wordt ik na veel luisteren beu. Dimash al zijn liedjes wordt ik nooit beu, integendeel ik wordt eraan verslaafd. SOS is nog maar klein bier in wat er nog allemaal is.
I love when people replay parts of the start until they slowly begin to realize the next part of the song gets even better and better :)
He IS a powerful singer, but you also need the words. SOS is such a cry of desperation and Dimash's rendering of this song is totally, absolutely and perfectly in accordance with Michel Berger's music and Luc Plamondon's lyrics. When you align great composer, lyricist and singer, it gives you this. I can only imagine what "Starmania" would be if Dimash played the part of Johnny Rockfort.
Hes' not little, he's 6'3". He has a 7 octave range, sings in 14 languages, and plays 8 instruments. He's in LA right now recording.

He is from an extended family of singers and musicians, and began training his voice when he was 5. Dimash was 22 years old when he did this performance. It was in the Chinese TV singing contest I Am Singer (aka The Singer) in 2017. He is from Kazakhstan and was invited on to the show as a wild card because normally only professional Chinese singers can compete. They knew he'd won a few awards but they didn't really know what he could do or how good he was, so they put him on as the first singer in Episode one, which is where they would normally put the weakest singers. Then they can get knocked out fairly quickly by the rest of the artists. He walked on, this skinny unassuming young man, opened his mouth and that incredible art flowed out. There was total and utter shock behind the stage, in the audience and in the orchestra. Every week he came on stage and blew everyone away with his astounding talent, range, vocal dynamics, breath control and power. Although he didn't win the contest (he lost by a couple of points), the Chinese people fell in love with him and a star was born. He stayed in China for the next few years working in multiple fields such as films, adverts, TV shows, modelling, singing for theme tunes, video games, at Gala performances etc, and has since become a world wide phenomenon. He is 28 years old now, his voice has matured even further and he has a deep seated passion for helping humanity which comes out in his songs and in his actions. He has become known as an 'Ambassador for Peace'. A beautiful voice and a beautiful person, one who is well worth getting to know better.

S.O.S es un aria particularmente difícil de una ópera rock contemporánea francesa escrita en 1978 titulada Starmania, que antes han interpretado los cantantes Daniel Balavoine y Gregory Lemarchaly. Fue la primera presentación en el concurso The Singer, del 2017 para cantantes profesionales, en donde fue el único invitado extranjero y el más joven. Lol, I did the same. This is the first song I heard of his and I'm a singer so I should know better, but to this day, I STILL hold my breath when Dimash sings. It doesn't seem to matter what genre he's singing in, his interpretation and vocal control just make you wanna say, "SHHHHHHHHH!!" to anyone making noise near you. You just wanna get every intonation and breath that HE'S making in the piece. You've got a fun road ahead if you follow Dimash's musical path!

There is nothing like a first-time reaction to Dimash. Yours is great because of how openly you displayed your shock and amazement- completely warranted when hearing him sing. A more recent live version of this song was my intro to him, and that performance is even better. And I actually say “hold the phone” in my own life, and when you hear him sing it’s definitely time for that.

Ha ha - you just got dimashed- it is sort of like getting hit/smashed by the amazing voice that is Dimash. I always love the first ever reactions as the expression on the face change from normal nothing to see here look to utter delicious unbelief. This face expression is like getting your very first kiss or maybe finding out that you can fly and have supernatural powers or something. It is an unrepeatable expression.
Since I could only have my first reaction ONCE only i love watching these to relive that moment again vicariously thru others. When I first heard SOS it blew my mind and that feeling was over too quick. So I go looking for these reactions in the way people try to relive that honeymoon period when you first fell in love ever. This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer).
The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to TH-cam ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

Someone goes to bang his head against the wall, another says that he gives up his career as a singer after hearing what he heard. And this Dimash sang with his fantastic voice, in which there are seven octaves and three tones. Dimash studied vocals from the age of five, graduated from the academy in the class of classical and modern vocals, can sing in twelve languages, plays six musical instruments. In addition, Dimash is engaged in swimming and taekwondo. And just a wonderful person.
I watched this video for the first time in July 2017. From that date until today, I watched Dimash sing every day and often for hours (I am retired). He is like a sun in my life. I really NEED to hear hime very day.

Yes, I fell in love with his voice the first time I heard him, as well. He is a treasure to us Dears. Not many reactors can speak after hearing him for the first time and we all take a deep breath when he is done singing. And yet his singing believe or not gets better and better. I believe he was 23 at the time of this performance. This competition took place in China. He is from Kazakhstan but he is singing in French. Amazing range, I believe close to 6 octaves... :)

Try to imagine this - A Chinese talent show for professional singers. They decide to invite a 22 year old unknown singer from Kazakhstan. This was the first show on the season. Dimash was the first singer on stage. It was discovered that he has perfect pitch at the age of 5 and started training. He was 22 at the time this was recorded. He is 28 or 29 today. This 6'3" 'Little Guy' also sings bass and an incredibly high D8! NOW, before you go to any other shows, you just have to watch the rest in this competition. Dimash was a write in with absolutely NO chance of placing, much less winning ... until he opened his mouth. This was in the 2017 Chinese talent show, 'I Am Singer', his introduction to the rest of the world. BTW, the man surrounded by red in the audience was Dimash's father. Dimash had no idea his dad had flown in from Kazakhstan until the end of the next song, 'Opera II'. PLEASE, for your own sake and enjoyment, listen to the other 11 songs he sings in this competition, but ONLY the ones from this competition before ou venture onward. I assure you, you won't regret it.

The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here. The lights in the back denoting all emotional stages, the wings and final moments before departing to heaven. Dimash is a world class artist, turned 28 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, very elegant and very tall, Dimash is 6ft 3, 1/4.

As background, Dimash was only 22 years old when he opened and won the very first episode of the I Am Singer Chinese show in 2017 with this performance of SOS - a showcase competition for well known, professional Chinese singers, with a voting audience of 500 people from the music industry. Dimash was the youngest and the first foreigner ever to be invited on the show (as a wildcard) and, as a total unknown in China, he wasn’t expected to last more than half the show. He astonished everyone, came second in the competition, an overnight sensation in China (600 million views of this performance) and a global phenomenon.
Dimash is university trained in classical (bel canto) and contemporary music and has been training (voice and piano) since he was 5 years old. He has degrees in voice (classical), contemporary music, completed a Masters in composition and is currently completing a PhD in musicology. He was offered a position with Astana Opera but declined to follow a career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music.He continues to train every day - either with a voice teacher or self trains.
On top of all that Dimash is the most humble of human beings, highly intelligent, kind, respectful, thoughtful, generous and genuine, family oriented, a humanitarian and a patriot of his country, Kazakhstan.
