    So what do you think? Is it worth the extra premium to live in California vs Indiana? Comment below!

    Lived in California for 20 years. Glad to be back in Indiana. SoCal is a beautiful area but the level of stress is high. Commuting on the 405 or the 91 will age a person in a bad way. It was a great experience and impacted my personal growth. I’m glad I did it but now I am happy to be out.

    I'm a native Hoosier, IU grad and LA resident for 3 decades. Before the pandemic, I had designs to move to back to Bloomington but the unemployment rate there is over 7% and one-quarter of its residents live at or below the poverty level. If you're poor, it is better to live in CA than LA. More financial resources here and it's a pro-tenant state. In November, state-wide rent control will be on the ballot.

      California has rent control and is a blue state that will be one reason I would stay

    I currently live in California and I’m thinking of moving to a small town in Indiana to complete my masters degree more comfortably. Cost of living is cheaper and even with out of state tuition, the state school im looking at in Indiana is 30k cheaper than a private school here in CA

      I love that you were able to find a college here in Indiana that is much cheaper than California. Please let me know if I can help in any way with your relocation to Indiana!

    I’m originally from Lafayette, I have been in California since the early 90’s, I think I have had enough. Looking to cash out of California and make the move back. Lafayette has gotten much more expensive but it’s great size town with a short drive to big cities.

    Nothing beats the Midwest as far as prices

    I’ve lived in many states surrounding Indiana and traveled in Indiana extensively. I love living in CA but I lucked out on price and I own my home. When I lived in the Midwest, I was endlessly repairing my home, landscaping fencing from tornado, wind rain, ice, hail and other damage. There a lot of hidden costs. I love the mountains, beaches and wildlife. One can’t put a price on home. Absolutely worth it!

      There are definitely positives and negatives to living in a costal community and in a Midwestern community. Thanks again for watching!

    Indiana is cheaper and less restrictions. I live in Indiana and own my home out right. Living very comfortable here in Indiana.

    I love California. Indiana is definitely cheaper but it lacks variety. Green grass, clean air but i cannot take the weather. I can’t shop kroger and meyers all of the time.lol

      I totally agree with you on the grocery thing. I do most of my shopping at Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme to avoid the other stores as much as possible.

    In California it is normal for kids to stay with parents past high school because of the astronomical cost of owning a home, the state is a mess a complete disaster, so much that my Sister who was Cali till I die moved to Kentucky and finally saw that California dreaming was a California nightmare, I consider myself a refugee from California, the government was and is straight up tyrannical but I said that back in 2012, 2020-23 showed me I was right, this is why people are leaving overall just bad governance. Indiana has been good to me, and starting and raising a family here is great, school choice, the right to self-defense, friendly people, low crime, I mean the complete opposite of what I grew up with in Ventura County CA.

    I'm a Realtor from California and the numbers for taxes in California are very low. The tax rate is 1.25% of the purchase price, so one can be paying a large amount in taxes. In my area, the average home is close to 1.2 million dollars, so its quite expensive. However, one's properties are not reassessed like they are in certain states ( Mass, for example), so if one owns a property for many years there are savings. My sister moved to Kentucky and their tax rates are similar to what you mentioned in this video.

      @geesamanhomes  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, that's interesting! I had no idea that once you purchased a home in California that the assessed value is "frozen" so to speak. Here in Indiana home values are reassessed annually, so your property tax bill can change from year to year.

    • @mtngrl5859
      @mtngrl5859 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@geesamanhomes That's more or less true, it can go up a tiny percentage ( 1%) each year, but that is based on its original purchase price. I have clients who purchased a home for 65k in the mid-1970's and their taxes are still under $1,000/year, while people who purchased a similar home for 1 million are paying over 10k a year in taxes.

    Coming from a Hoosier who woke up from his California dream, Cali is for visiting/vacationing. I would rather live in Tennessee due to property tax and winter.

    The house I live in in Indiana would be well out of my affordable range in California, And my home is almost paid off.

    I'm from California and moved to Indy to start a family and own a house. Got the family started, but still working on the house. Neither would be possible in San Diego. Let's not forget about gas prices. I would spend about 3 hours a day driving. That equates to about a month and a half of my year driving... with gas over $5 gallon. All the taxes and idiotic laws have ruined the great state. The smart ones have moved away.

    • @geesamanhomes
      @geesamanhomes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indiana winters are certainly much colder than California winters. Although the job market in Indiana is not a strong as California, I think the lower cost of living helps to bridge that gap. Thanks for watching, and I hope you have a great day!

      Per BLS Unemployment data for June, Indiana's unemployment is ranked 28th in the nation. California is ranked 49th, almost bottom of the list. So there are many more job opportunities in Indiana than in California. (www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm).
