- The Offering is an award-winning short animated film created in almost two years by a group of very dedicated Cogswell College (www.cogswell.edu) students. Since it's completion in 2010, The Offering has screened at over thirty international film festivals and been proclaimed as an amazing piece of art and cinema. The Offering's production value is so high and comparable to Hollywood films that it has never had to enter a student film festival to garner wins. Since it's completion nearly every Alumni that worked on the film is employed in their area of expertise.
The film is loosely based on the love story of the Hindu gods Shiva and Parvati. The Offering was the pilot film for what has become Project X and has served as a great test bed for what was actually possible at an animation school. The latest Hollywood animation production techniques and software were used to create the groundbreaking characters, environments and effects. It pushed the boundaries for student level work and to most experts it appears as a professional level piece.
The Offering was completed as part of a animation production class called Project X that is offered at Cogswell. The writer and director Michael Zachary Huber is an industry veteran that has worked on many Hollywood blockbusters. The soundtrack for the film was created by Jeremy Soule and Jeff Miyahara. Jeremy is the legendary composer that created the Skyrim soundtrack as well as other Elder Scrolls games and more. Another amazing source of help was choreographer, Reshma Gajar, who has done work for several big name celebrities including Madonna. For more information about the film and its crew check out the links below.

About Project X at Cogswell College
Project X is a cross-disciplinary Project Based Learning class that creates a 3D animated short film over the course of 1 year. The purpose of the class is to expose the students to as close to a studio work-experience as possible while still in school. The students gain experience working as a team and leverage the various skills of the group to create the best work possible.
Facilities and Software:
Project X works in a dedicated lab giving students extensive access to state of the art equipment and software. For hardware, Project X uses Windows based workstations, servers and render farm. For software, Project X uses Maya, Z-Brush, Mudbox, Mari, Houdini, Nuke, Photoshop, Vray, Renderman and After Effects in addition to a variety of plugins and project management tools. Projext X also uses a custom render manager, Hydra, developed as a project by engineering and computer science students specifically for the school's network.
Student experience and outcomes:
The large group project based environment of Project X gives students a number of valuable experiences and outcomes. The students develop and exercise the skills needed to work effectively with a team over an extended period of time such as: being able to communicate clearly and professionally, how to be a team leader and a team player, the ability to manage the schedule for a number of time-sensitive tasks and how to meet deadlines. Students also develop and refine assets responding to feedback from students that will be using those assets, while also providing feedback on assets that they themselves receive. They develop the ability to investigate and evaluate a number of possible production methods to accomplish the challenges set by the needs of the project. In the end the students have the work that they have created to use in their portfolios which has been refined to extremely high standards and has been proven by having been successfully used in a larger work.

Beautifully depicted.
An ordinary lady enters the temple with lot of hesitancy. But the change of aura or energy field of the lady changes her hesitancy into confidence, picturised superbly by change in walking style. Even her body colour changes and also her dress showing her as some celestial being. She feels that she can please Lord through her dance or arrogance of beauty maybe. The Lord doesn't fudge or move a muscle in short not pleased by confidence of the lady who thinks she can please the Lord. Finally she lets go of her ego by offering her head flower or ego to the Lord. She walks out of the temple as a simple lady with no ego in her stature or attitude only to find that Lord is pleased.
Very nicely showed that Offering with complete surrender is always accepted.
She's not an ordinary lady, she's his wife.
The statue depicts Lord Shiva, and the woman who appears as a woman (to ordinary humans) until she enters the temple, is Parvati.
Uhh, she walks out of the temple with a giant amethyst urn, pretty sure she stole it, she's Indiana Joanne.
You perspective is most accurate and true. I think this is only what it meant. Ego is biggest obstacles on the path of God. She made offering of her most precious object to lord, as lord became most precious to her. It's true renunciation (tayag)

An offering with pure love and devotion is enough to get the blessing of Mahadev 🔱🚩🙏
If you rephrase the word mahadev into "god" ,then it'll be accurate
I had been watching this video for the past 8 years consistently and have no words to praise it for its creativity.
The setting of this short movie is undoubtedly wonderful and stunning! The Shiva statue has been described vividly! I also love how Parvati dances, each of her movement is soo well,........precious, gorgeous, beautiful and ......sensual!!! I also love the music!!
So the offering doesn't have to be special..It can be as small as the flower offered vd pure love to your diety. Is that what is meant?
Purnima Gupta right on
It's the love/devotion to your god that matters.
it means the statue is not into women so a flower is a nice consolation.

we dont get to watch this kind of video on you tube very often
after ten years I have just searched this short again. Because I was so impressed !
The animation of the arms and basic physiology was amazing. If someone ever comes along who actually HAS six arms, they could do worse than to have the structural composition as shown in this video. The motions and interactions of the arms to the body were stunningly realistic. Don't know what your inspiration was for this film, but the final effect leaves me speechless. Kudos and wishes for further successes in your future efforts!!
Finally she received a smile from Lord Shiva.

@@rmorita no, he was happy with a flower, which she offered with devotion.
No fancy dance, no luxury offerings, just a simple flower which she offered, despite being upset that her dance was not being acknowledged, is what made the lord smile.
She passed the test of patience. If it was somebody else, they could walk away angrily. Some would even start bickering and yelling. Some woud throw a tantrum.
She chose to offer the flower.
If you reflect this attitude in your life, your life will smile upon you. Just be patient, and make the little things count. They will culminate into something significant.

You may find it funny. But most people who understand the concept of this video, will find it distasteful.
Despite this, I only attempted to explain the idea of the video to you, with complete composure and respect.
Perhaps if you seek humour by ridiculing people's dignity, unwarranted at that, you are the one who needs to chill.
@ It is simply a cermaic water vessel. To store water from the river.
She carried it from the beginning of the video.
Indian pottery goes back to 10,000 years at least. Although nowadays, unfortunately, it is rare in use(replaced with plastic bottles), only used in rural places now.
It gives a distinct sweet taste to the water, keeps it cool, and mineralises it as well.
It is shame that now we rely on plastic, that is known to leech over time, and use filtered water which is stripped off its essential minerals.
Coming back to your question, I think it was in the video just to emphasize the olden times.
Back in the 1980's, I was working on animation with the Apple ][ computer and found how hard it was to show walking with the bobbing and swaying of the body. I could have never conceived of this level of quality. But, then, I couldn't conceive of a whole team working together to create magic like this production. I noticed that the dancer's hair was done up so that another team was not needed just to animate her hair flowing but that's cool. I saw the dancer as a Yakshi, a river sprite? Thanks for sharing and raising the bar on video production.
Fast Forward to the end of 2022....The level of video game Animation and sophistication makes this look primitive.
Beautiful, I've watched this one several times and have enjoyed it each time. Love the dance, love the animation, WELL DONE!!

Alright. I can say I liked it. The story, although seemed too inadequate, I guess its fine for a 7 min animation film. I like the fact that you made it on Shiva-Parvati. Parvati being the Goddess who is dancing for her man, her God, Shiva. Now those people who are complaining about Shiva's angry face, must have forgotten that Shiva is also known as Rudra: the angriest of all. And add to that, Shiva is also almost unavailable because of his penance. Parvati hence strives for his attention, which is perfectly showcased here. They have used Shiva's "Nataraja" form background in the art. So mythology wise, I think they did no wrong.
She is not parvati because she has two arms entire her lifetime
It is completely shiv mean Shanta rudra his expansion rudra(mahakaal , kaalbhairav, veerbhadra and hanuman) many more is angry lord not shiv
You guess its fine? You must do animation yourself.

At the upper layer it is a beautiful dance of a goddess to lord Shiva. On the deeper layers it shows that every human is a god or a goddess like the women in the video and on a deeper level it shows how the divine feminine returning and does all she can to bring back the enraged masculine in his divine form. In balance of feminine and masculine inside yourself and in our world lays true harmony, wisdom and power.

Excellent animation and for me the icing on the cake was placing the lotus blossom in the hand of the Murthi (physical representation of God) for this reason. I really enjoyed this vid but is it wrong of me to have wanted the statue of Shiva to come alive & dance with the girl?? 😊😊
Not at all wrong, I agree with you!🙏🏻🕉🕉
Why it was be wrong. He likes to dance himself
N OP, I was hoping for that
I was hoping they would dance.
The point of the animation is that you cannot impress Shiva with complex rituals ( here her complex dance moves ) or by an exhibition of how learned or wealthy you are ( depicted by the arrogance the girl depicts at the beginning ) . True devotion starts when you finally realize that you really cannot offer anything to Shiva except your innocent love ( depicted by the small flower ) and that is what he lovingly accepts .
Nothing short of breath-taking and the whole setting is fantastic and brilliantly done.
I saw its an Indian culture...the dance called tandav nritya for Lord shiva...amazing film!...
The dance by parvati is called lasya. Tandav is the dance form of shiva.

Once I went to a temple and as I was standing there, a guy comes in takes off his shirt and start playing a chenda (not sure) ...no one moved, it was like everyone went into a trance. I know so little of the culture, but I'm not too shy to say it was exquisitely provocative.
This reminds me of the Gajendra moksha story, a part of Hindu history, when a king that had been cursed to be an elephant was getting killed by a crocodile and he had nothing but offer but a single lotus out of pure devotion and thus was saved by lord vishnu himself and attained nirvana/moksha/enlightenment
