    About the pooping everywhere problem:
    A friend owns a Tegu. Most times, he would poop taking a shower. So I came up with the idea of a thick PVC board with a cutout for a stainless steel bowl. I used one of those hospital kidney shaped stainless steel trays and covered the board with a thick outdoor carpet.
    My friend then used the board to shower the Tegu and after a few weeks, the Tegu had adopted this board as his dedicated pooping spot. He even wipes his but on the carpet when leaving the board.
    This thing is super easy to clean. Just dump the tray into the toilet, rinse it under the tap and every now and then the carpet needs to be hosed down. They usually do that when giving the Tegu a shower on top of the board.

    My iguana is 2 and half years old he has his own “enclosure” where he sleeps, eats and poops, he has his own bathroom and everything, the enclosure is open, no door and he has stairs. He comes down whever he pleases and he’s always outside and sits by my house heater all day, sleeps behind me bed and knows when it is time to eat, he hears the bag and he comes out, eats goes to the bathroom drinks water, and then goes back behind my bed since it is the warmest place in my room, he’s turning 3 in July, I love this guy he’s getting bigger by the day

    I just got a rescue. I went to a shitty pet shop and I saw a 5-6 month old green iguana, this guy had NO CLUE how to take care of a iguana. He was feeding him the same shit he’d feed the bearded dragons, he was in the smallest cage I’ve ever seen. He was so malnourished I didn’t know if he was going to eat anything when I got him. It’s been 2 weeks now and he’s much happier and he’s starting to look and act healthy again. I didn’t think he was going to survive at first but now I’m so excited that he’s finally happy. (The store owner gave me him for free because he said he had no idea what he was doing)

    He's pretty good on the physical health take but I'd argue he's treating it like most reptiles personality wise which I don't agree with (but I'm also not a freaking expert so there you go).
    Okie dokie for acclimation, here's my take (unprofessional). First, you get them used to your hands and body without showing your face so they think your an ugly, squishy, and smelly heating rock. Second, after a month or two you start getting them used to your face. Third you should probably not have an iguana if you aren't ready to have them free roam in your room. (Edit) Oh! You can definitely teach them to poop in a specific area without much trouble (they are super smart). They also need enrichment. Variety. Think of them (personality wise) as a paranoid dog. You stick a dog like that in a room and don't give them attention they will never like you. That's my oh so important take on this 3 y/old video. Don't buy Iguanas. If you aren't someone a rescue would be comfortable giving an Iguana too then you shouldn't have one.

      I wouldn’t use canned anything for food. I have another video somewhere that shows her diet. Greens, and veggies. Fruits as a treat. But chop or shave it up and put in a container and it will last a good while. But calcium is a good thing. I have UVB and UVA on her and well as a ceramic heater. Now she’s in an open cage that I build but wouldn’t have her in that if she was a baby. But looks like you’ve done some good research. A good mist a day also helps with humidity. And build an outside cage for the hot summer days that you can get him out in with no worries.

      Not to mention, I think I've said to my friends at least 50-100 times since buying one, "These animals make horrible pets. They shouldn't be as readily available as they are in pet stores. They have absolutely no business being $30 at your local pet store."

    • @sailorssky
      @sailorssky ปีที่แล้ว

      And that being said, we've gone more than the extra mile every day with the bathing.. the annual enclosure size upgrades.. dietary diversity.. everything.. super healthy individual.. but far more responsibility than I knew I was getting into even having grown up with reptiles (mostly medium-larger snakes).

      Be cautions with only fruits. Do what we did. Get a bunch of different veggies and separate them on a plate. Learn what he likes and go from there. Fruits should only be a treat every now and then. Don’t forget to sprinkle calcium every now and then.

      Handle it as much as possible with confidence. Make sure it’s enclosure is where it can always see you when you’re walking around the house as well. They are tough as many say they might not ever get comfortable. Mine is a punk lol. But after a few mins she calms down. I just did a video on gloves that seem to help not only your arms from getting tore up but makes them feel more comfortable because they can grip it better. Those gloves link are in the description.
