Just now moving into the world of overlanding / truck camping. Have the same tent in green and a similar setup for the outbuildings, so to speak. Being able to see how you do things is quite helpful. Thanks,
@@Victorted That’s awesome. The Gazelle tents are great super easy to setup and plenty of room. I also have a wood stove I’ve used in it as well in a previous video but that required cutting one of the screens out for one window. It’s nice having the portable pop up canopy as too since it gives me the option to set everything up away from the vehicle.
Great video, it really helps us all get through the "Winter Doldrums." I have had plenty of time out camping in the rain but never camping in the snow (yet.) You looked like you made it work well enough to get me interested in possibly giving it a try sometime. Thank you and enjoy the outdoors.
@@campfire52 Thanks. I’ve camped in the rain many times and actually prefer the snow. The snow makes it seem much more peaceful and I actually stay drier since the snow doesn’t soak in clothing immediately like rain does.
@@jakemcclellan8399 Yeah I think he’s here for the duration. I’d bring him on more trips but I can’t leave him locked up while I’m hiking and he’s not super fond of the bumpy roads.
also I forgot to say : for your leaking diesel heater tank : could it be possible to swap the cap for a regular cap with no breathing hole ? if it's a standard size ? Just for transport then swap it again before using it ? for me that would be the challenge not to forget to swap it when using it, LOL. In that case put a colored tape on it to attract your eye and make you remember . Not fun to have diesel all over though.
@@positiveattitudebymichusa It may be possible to swap caps, that’s a good idea. I’m going to try just using a plastic bag under the cap first. I’ll have to measure the cap and keep a lookout for a replacement when I’m in the stores, thanks for the idea.
Must of been fun to have some company! You said the heater was set to 4, is that a med setting? I was impressed that you put on chains to get up, I would have been lazy and turned back. You always find some nice spots for camping.
@@easycamperdandog I’m usually too lazy to put the chains on but I wanted to get further up this road and I knew it was a bit sketchy in some spots so I decided to play it safe. I believe the heater goes up to 10, I started out at 2 and late at night bumped it up a bit. It’s nice to have a heater that can just run all night without having to wake up and add wood to it.
Excellent video again and nice adventure ! I was glad to see the long form after your teaser. Nice to see Rusty again. You are very brave : in addition to the chalenge of camping in the snow you have the added challenge of your cat. Your cat seems to wander a bit as all cats do anyway, but still stay around. Our cat zips off unfortunately so we cannot even allow him in the garden unless on harness or in the tent (that was the reason for the tent. BTW yesterday I got a threat and insult comment on YT because of this tent. I have had some hate comments for no reason on some of my videos in the past but this one was a step farther with direct threats to my person and insults too. I erased it. Maybe should have kept a copy or a screenshot just in case. On my little channel of 250 subs, unbelievable ! ) Our cat is also very car sick, even for the small street ride to the vet like 10 minutes away on paved county roads, I could not imagine him on a bumpy forest service road. Cheers from New Jersey and hopefully you still have snow. All our 2 rounds of snow have melted completely today with the rain and warm temperatures.
@@positiveattitudebymichusa Rusty likes to explore but stays fairly close to camp and I try to keep an eye on him. Having a little net tent sure helps for when I need to keep him at camp while I’m busy doing stuff. I used to have another cat that got really car sick. I tried camping with her once and she was not happy so I just let her stay home, no need to cause that stress on the cat when she was happy being a house cat. That is very unfortunate that some people have directed any negative comments or threats to you on your channel. All your videos that I’ve seen have been positive and in no way deserving of anything negative. If people don’t like the content they don’t have to watch, it’s literally that easy. I hope you reported those comments and that it doesn’t discourage you from keeping on with doing what you’re doing.
@@scottalpine thank you for the support. @@Vic-dog I didn’t bother to look in the owners manual, I believe chains are only issues with all wheel drive suv type vehicles (my friends Subaru says not to run chains). The chains are Peerless that I got at Walmart. Regardless of what the manual says if I think I need chains to safely proceed, I’ll chain up or turn back. Kitty loves to adventure.
@@Vic-dog Interesting. I used to have a 2018 Colorado 4x4 and I ran chains on the rear, I never checked the manual for it. I didn’t realize that a pickup would have a “no chains” in the manual. I’ll have to see what my Nissan manual says. I’ll still use them regardless if I think I need them.

I’ve heard other people use a ziplock bag to keep the fuel from leaking out. Just lay the bag over the top then twist the cap over it.
