It made me even sadder to hear Ted's speech after. The Richmond team had each other, but Jamie was likely feeling pretty alone. Same with Rupert but no one cares about him 😏.
You also need to remember, Jamie is in his early twenties, he is practically a kid and it make sense why he still want a father figure in his life, even if its a shitty one like his dad, that why he also lash out at the begging at Ted because that the "good parentig" he never got and in a way thats also scary. and in the end, when he pass and only get yeld by his dad and at the same time get prise and a gift from Ted, that the start of him maturing
Blind Wave don't read the comments whilst watching, so.... SPOILERS:- Does anyone think the writers' decision re: future Nate, was a good idea though? I know little scenes like this can be seen as an early indication into his dormant horrible personality, but I personally don't see the literary benefit to it, especially considering he does another 180, just for the inevitable, predictable & very sudden redemption arc.
Spoilers ahead! That's Nates growth and storyline. What makes this show so good every character in this series has a story arc. Nates story is going from having 0 confidence and being stepped on to then being over confident and getting a massive ego because it's the only way he believes he will finally get respect and we come to realise he craves the respect and appreciation from his father who is basically the biggest example of giving tough love. We learn he's doing most of that so his father will finally give him some acceptance. He eventually realises that he doesn't need a huge ego or to belittle others to be accepting of himself and to be happy. We finally see his father have a propper heart to heart with him when he finally gets that acceptance he's always wanted which he thought he never had and always believed that his father saw him as a disappointment.
Yes, Jason Sudeikis did actually hit is head on the door frame by accident. No, he was not fine. They had to superglue his scalp shut to stop it from bleeding so they could keep filming.
I dunno why but Jamie getting the letter of affirmation from Ted, right after what happened with his father, breaks me every time, and I've watched tons of reactions. The actor does an excellent job of portraying the complex emotions. And as is pointed out in the talk, there's nothing to gain from Ted to give that note. It's purely to help Jamie out and to give him the encouragement he always needed.
It always hits me when characters like Jamie from ted lasso, adam from sex education do not have good father figures are represented and the show redeeming them with father figures or their own father making changes in their lives to be more accountable. As a person who only had a toxic father in my life, watching these characters always makes me feel safe for some reason
@jatinchanchlani8982 I've had a ton of issues with my father which is why I think my heart aches so much when you see Jamie and Nate struggling with their issues. And the catharsis of having people like Ted and Roy give them the affirmation they need.
We knew Jamie’s dad was shit but the sheer aggressiveness of the scene always takes me off guard. The way Jamie’s actor just sits there and takes it is heart breaking as well.
So quick explanation of the English football leagues! Top tier (where Richmond were this season) is the premiership - they have now been relegated to the championship - if you end in the top two of the championship you can then be promoted back to the premier league. Below the championship you have league one, then league two, then national - then there are few other tiers below this for more local football teams. Promotion and relegation is the same for these i.e. top of the league promotes you for next season, bottom relegates you for next season. I don’t think they say in the show specifically but likelihood is that Richmond had been in premier league solidly for a while hence this relegation being tough. But all the teams started from somewhere and the bigger teams now were all much smaller once but like if a new team was set up they wouldn’t be able to just go into top flight football, they’d have to work their way up. Then there is also the Champion’s league and the FA cup but we will cover those another day…..
Just to piggyback on this point, relegation from the premiership is for the three worst teams at the end of the year, based on points. Conversely, the top two finishing teams from the Championship level league - under the Premier League - get promoted automatically and the next four teams, positions 3-6, have a playoff, to see who gets to be the third team promoted to fill out the positions in the Premier League. There's 24 teams in the Championship vs only 20 in the Premier League, so there is A, eight extra games on the schedule, and B, far more competition to try and get promoted. Some of the promotion playoff games are scintillating to watch. That said, it's all about money. Premier League teams generally have sky-high revenues and salaries, so there is more money to be had. Once relegated, there is less, so being relegated is a big deal. Some teams can't afford to keep their best players because they usually come with a higher salary. There are parachute payments to teams that get relegated, which helps them adjust to life in the lower leagues. But again, all about the money. More TV coverage, more ad revenue, jersey sales, etc.
Considering how many cultural references Ted Lasso uses, the only thing that would have made the Lasso Special play even more perfect is if they'd audibled "Omaha."
Promotion and relegation is purely position based. At the end of the 38 game season, the bottom 3 (out of 20) teams in the Premier League are relegated to the Championship, which has 24 teams. Promotion from the championship is achieved by finishing in the top 2, or by winning the playoffs, which are played between the teams that finish between 3rd and 6th. Below the Championship is League 1, League 2, which is the last proper professional league, and then down into the semi-pro leagues, but there are some pro teams in those too. That’s just England, there is a similar setup (although most are smaller) in every country in Europe.
Calvin is correct in that there are different types of coaches for training, such as a keeper coach. On the field you'd usually only notice the head coach and assistant coach being active. But I don't think there are any rules that say you can't have 2-3-4 assistant coaches.
Big teams can have something like 6 coaches. Manager, Assistant, Set Pieces, Goalie, Technical, Defense, Attack, etc. Most times the coaches cover a few of those areas though. Sometimes, manager and assistant do all of that.
I'm really enjoying the re-watch with you guys. There are a lot of call backs and cool little character moments through the series that get better the more I watch this show. Very good writing and acting.
Jason Sudeikis is a freakin' comedy wizard! Fantastic episode once again! Great reaction as usual from the Wave Crew! Looking forward to the next one! 🤘🤘🤘💯💯💯⚽⚽⚽

Roy saw Issac back up Colin when Jamie told Colin to set up the cones after Ted benched him. He was sitting next to Roy and moved over so Nate had room to sit during Ted's halftime speech. When they watch Iron Giant, Roy is shown watching Issac telling a teammate to pay attention to the movie.

The actor who plays Higgins and the actress who plays his wife are married in real life. Isn't that awesome! I love this show so much. Thank you for reacting to it. It truly only gets better (which is kind of rare for a series).
This show is to be watched 2 or 3 times, it's so clever. Rebecca saying "there is a great saying in Dutch football" and encouraging Ted to create chaos must be the biggest spoiler of the whole series- and I only realised now!
The Premier League is made up of 20 English Soccer Teams. At the end of each season the lowest ranking 3 teams are religated to the lower Chamionship League. The top 2 teams from that league are automatically promoted to the Premier and the next 4 play off against each other to determine the 3rd promotion. It's like the bottom 3 MLB teams are relegated to Triple A Baseball and teams can then be elevated to MLB. A fun concept actually.
Came here to note this- “You’ll never walk alone” is probably best associated with Liverpool, but more than one club has used it since the 60s. It’s from the broadway musical Carousel, by Rogers and Hammerstein
In football there can be several coaches but in the case of the United Kingdom, there are even more nomenclatures. Ted is considered the manager, rather than a coach. He is responsible for tactics, yes, but mostly he would be involved in setting up a team with players that are the best that that team can get. He would not normally be involved in the actual training of the team, that would be for Beard and Nate and other staff members in this case. Though, I like it that Ted is very involved on all levels of the team, but normally there is an enormous staff that aids the manager and coaches in their duties.
I don't think there's a limit on how many coaches a team can have, it's all up to the manager to pick his staff. But I'd say usually there are 5-6 coaches (manager, assistant manager, fitness coaches, analysts, free kick coaches, goalkeeper coaches, etc). Usually the only ones you see involved in a match are the manager and the assistant manager. Also, most teams have an analyst sitting up in the stands so he can have a better view of the pitch and send his analysis to the coaching staff on the bench.
Relegation/promotion, for those who don't know. The Premier League, the most prestigious league in England, has 20 teams competing in it. If your team wins, you get 3 points. A tie is 1 point, and a loss is 0 points. Each team plays against eachother twice over the course of a season for a total of 38 games each. The 3 teams with the least amount of points at the end of the season are demoted (relegated) into the league below, which is called for the championship. If your team competes in the championship, the two teams with the most points are promoted automatically into the premier league. Also, the teams that finish in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th position compete against eachother in the 'play offs', and the team that wins the play offs is the third team ti be promoted into the premier league.
FIFA is actually a really good way to get Americans who've never watched/played into the sport. It's kind of like tennis or golf games where even if you don't care about those sports you can still have a grand time playing, especially with your mates.
Just learning SC lately and watching LOL recently due to Linkin Park doing the main song for the Worlds. Weird how I end up here with also loving Ted Lasso. Nerds.
The league standings and promotion/relegation is fairly simple, a win gives you 3 points, draw 1 point and 0 for loss. Winner of the league is whoever gets the most amount of points over a 34 game season while the bottom three teams with least amount of points is relegated to the second division. To be promoted back up you need to finish top three in the second division, and in theory the team would get relegated to the third division if they finished bottom three (and so on).
You just made me feel old by not knowing how to pronounce McLeod 😂 I had to google when the original Highlander movie came out, and it was 1986. I've known since I was 6 how to pronounce the name 😅😅😅
McLeod's Daughters was an Australian drama show that ran for 8 seasons. It's hard not to know how to pronounce the name when you hear it advertised every day of every week for years on end!
I tend to forget the spelling from “Highlander”, too; as an Aussie I’m aware of that show, but making the connection that both are spelled the same is usually not on my radar. When I even think of HL, that is (usually just for how great it’s pure evil villain was in execution, honestly).
@@maec8014 The show we mentioned has nothing to do with "Highlander", so you don't have to worry. It's just that they happen to use the same spelling of the family name.
fyi, trick plays are called set pieces because it's based on volleyball. VB isn't a straight forward game. causing chaos is the main strategy in VB. because VB utilizes complex plays based on deception, especially w body language, using it to confuse the setters and blockers. in VB there are 3 or 5 sets (international and Asia are usually 5 even in high school like Japan). the job of a setter is to get the ball to the spikers without anyone realizing it, and a setter cannot set without deception, mind games and behaviour analysis. a VB player would never fall for Jaime's (lack thereof) selfishness, because they study their opponents as close to real-time as they can. behaviour pattern and changes are as important as skills and without them a setter cannot perform. Iran's setter, Marouf, and Brazil's setter, Bruno, are said to have eyes in the back of their heads cz they can set a spiker, sending the ball behind them without looking (they use sounds verbal signals too). some setters can tell their spikers' step. De Cecco, the setter of Argentina, can even utilize blockers as spikers if he wants to cz he knows how many steps they take to cross the court in the front. if you think set plays are fun you should see what a single volleyball rally looks like. the most high octane
In the premier league, the bottom 3 teams get relegated at the end of the season. And the top 3 teams in the championship get promoted to the premier league at the end of the season
@@jatinchanchlani8982THANK YOU!!! I love anime but Blue lock was literally one of FOUR anime I dropped (black clover, Baki, seven deadly sins) I liked it at first but then realized that exactly what you say is true, and it's just ridiculous and difficult to take seriously. Also, yeah, animation sucks
It's not a hard to understand as people think: there's 4 leauges the Premier Leauge, The Championship then leauge 1&2 top 3 teams are promoted bottom 3 team are relegated you can get promoted and relegated as many times as it takes to get to the top
Bottom 3 teams with the least points get relegated from the premier league at the end of the season and in the championship the league below the top 2 get auto promoted and 3rd - 6th is playoffs for the last promotion spot. But getting relegated in real life is bad as you lose a lot of money and players have relegation release clauses in the contract so they can find another top team so you lose your star players usually unless your rich and pay them.
@@bereasonable8018 Rick has mentioned it and has clearly seen Major League. I'm just assuming the others haven't or it's been a while base on them asking Rick clarifying questions. As for Bull Durham, it's a bit of a cult classic so I don't think they've seen that.
24:22 Don't worry, nobody mad. But it is so SO surprising that country that invented, in a way, trope of underdog team beating giants doesn't have a system in place where said underdog can be forged in fire on regular bases... it just feels wrong. So like NBA doesn't have relegation, MLS probably don't either, I presume? This is mental lol Hey, Americans, but how do teams begin their journey then? Are you telling me that no smalltown team can ever get into your American Football League (sorry, idk what it's called) because it full of old money teams without any update to the roster to surprise them with new tactics and plays?!
All American sports are essentially "closed" leagues. Rosters change yearly with new signings, trades and drafts, but the makeup of the league rarely changes. Sometimes there can be divisional or even location changes, such as a team in the NFL, the Raiders, just changed from being the Oakland raiders to the Las Vegas Raiders, and occasionally there are explanations, though that's incredibly rare, where the league adds entirely new teams, but it's a very long journey to a championship for that team. My favorite team was an expansion team in 1996 and we've made it to the Superbowl twice in my entire life, never winning. The underdog stories happen all the time but it's from established teams that have never, or haven't in a long time, had success.
@@joshuabarnett88my bad, by roster I only meant teams not players. Sure, usually in basketball we would get similar stories how one team could change city like it is not a big deal. In football on the other hand, not so much. I personally don't have an example of that happening in 20 years. At least not in the 2 top divisions. I think what I'm asking is - if there isn't any way to get to the top through competition alone what motivates teams to do better? In any division? In my understanding Superbowl is pretty much just Cup tournament like in most European countries? What I mean by that, is let say Raiders play one game against Cowboys (I only know like 2 teams at best). And whoever wins goes to the next stage, loser eliminated right? So in football (soccer.. it hurts my soul) Cup tournament is pretty consistently results in underdog (team from lower division) winner or at the very least underdog gets to the final stage. Like lets say Richmond can easily beat ManCity and eliminate it out of tournament next season (I only saw season 1). Underdog winning Premier League (let's stick with UK for simplicity) is a very BIG deal. And it rarely happens. That's why Leicester blew everyone mind back when it happened.
@@sblood311 my bad, by roster I only meant teams. Individual players are free to get into any division, I assume? Even in US... I hope lol Like let say small town called New New York wants to get its own football team and eventually wants to see it play in the top division. What could they do to archive said goal? Relegation/promotion would help that team get from regional league to 2nd division to eventually play among teams like ManCity through: determination, teamwork, good work of scouts or by simply buying overqualified players in 3-4 seasons. And team like that probably would never win the league, but it motivated to play better by fear of relegation with less money/glory and by possibility to get to 6th place and play with teams from other countries in European tournament aka more money/glory. I feel like without carrot and stick: - teams at the bottom have zero reasons to get better, - at the top you get stagnation, - middle of the pack stuck in limbo of being not good enough without outlet for said frustration.
Once again, I'd love to see the notes on this, I doubt they added much. Unless you have a goldfish brain, how do you not remember what you just watched?
because they watch more than 20 shows at same time and only one episode of each show a week. so unless they have eidetic memory, they and most people can not remember every details
It's so funny watching Americans try to get their heads around promotion and relegation. There's a cultural gap in sport between America and the rest of the world. Mostly because of money, American sport has been heavily franchised to protect clubs and owners financially. Relegation can destroy clubs, so I guess that's why it was never introduced in America. However, someone like the Oakland athletics deserve relegation because they're just so bad at Baseball and there is no competition for them
If your in the top 3 in the championship league then your promoted and if your in the bottom 3 then you get relegated and that's the same for every league
It's just that I was wondering what happened. I'm sorry if it's a sensitive issue, I don't mean to be intrusive. I don't know them personally, but I really like their reactions, I think they're always insightful and respectful.
@@karouakiva1714 I don't think they were replying to you but to the original commenter. You probably got a notification because you commented on the thread.

The bottom 3 teams on season points get relegated and the top 3 teams from the other league get promoted each season
Doctor Who new trailer reaction, I’m ready for minds to be blown.
Wait…I just noticed Nate was promoted in the episode Richmond was demoted. I wonder what happens next season
If you’re wondering if a line is a quote from film, it is. This whole series is full of Easter eggs ❤
Not sure if anyone pointed out Isaac counted to 12 for the # of guys on the pitch and skipped 8 because that was Roy's position.
You should watch Miracle! It’s one of my comfort movies!
After you've finished Ted Lasso I would love to see a gaming special of you guys playing FIFA 😍
Nerds.
When Jamie watches Ted walk away.😢 I bet he thought Ted was going to stand up for him.
I'm not sure thats the case... I think Jamie might have found that more humiliating that Ted seeing that already was.
That scene where he hits his head was an absolute accident
Y.N.W.A ❤
The league standings and promotion/relegation is fairly simple, a win gives you 3 points, draw 1 point and 0 for loss. Winner of the league is whoever gets the most amount of points over a 34 game season while the bottom three teams with least amount of points is relegated to the second division. To be promoted back up you need to finish top three in the second division, and in theory the team would get relegated to the third division if they finished bottom three (and so on).
I've said this before but I'll say it again... Any American who loves Ted Lasso would LOVE Welcome to Wrexham.
You just made me feel old by not knowing how to pronounce McLeod 😂
I had to google when the original Highlander movie came out, and it was 1986.
@robertwallis7115 Im from the Philippines and we only ever had the film and the tv series. I didn't know about the daughter 😅
Yeah I think when Ted hit his head, it wasn't in the script 😅
In the premier league, the bottom 3 teams get relegated at the end of the season. And the top 3 teams in the championship get promoted to the premier league at the end of the season
No funnylilgal comment on this video 😢, aw. It was a nice crossover to see.
This episode reminded me how much I want you guys to react to the anime Bluelock
Please no. It's edgy, cringe, overly hyped and animation is just awful
@@jatinchanchlani8982 Your opinion is awful.
I want them to watch Major League now. And Bull Durham
I think they’ve all seen those films. No?
@@bereasonable8018 Rick has mentioned it and has clearly seen Major League. I'm just assuming the others haven't or it's been a while base on them asking Rick clarifying questions. As for Bull Durham, it's a bit of a cult classic so I don't think they've seen that.

2:01
“Major League” quotes and references?! Spoiler alert! 🚨 there will be more 🤓
24:22 Don't worry, nobody mad. But it is so SO surprising that country that invented, in a way, trope of underdog team beating giants doesn't have a system in place where said underdog can be forged in fire on regular bases... it just feels wrong. So like NBA doesn't have relegation, MLS probably don't either, I presume? This is mental lol
Hey, Americans, but how do teams begin their journey then? Are you telling me that no smalltown team can ever get into your American Football League (sorry, idk what it's called) because it full of old money teams without any update to the roster to surprise them with new tactics and plays?!
It seems to be that way.
In hockey individual players can be brought up from minor leagues to fill roster spots but i guess that's not quite the same.
I hope lol
Like let say small town called New New York wants to get its own football team and eventually wants to see it play in the top division.
I feel like without carrot and stick:
- teams at the bottom have zero reasons to get better,
- at the top you get stagnation,
- middle of the pack stuck in limbo of being not good enough without outlet for said frustration.
Why are they talking about Henry Cavill being in highlander at the beginning?
Because there's a new Highlander movie coming out, starring Henry Cavill!
It's obvious these guys did not play Star Fox growing up
Not yall trying to say my last name lol

because they watch more than 20 shows at same time and only one episode of each show a week. so unless they have eidetic memory, they and most people can not remember every details
These episodes are like an hour long how is the reaction video only 25 minutes
