- My friend Micheal Stevens (a/k/a Youthman) has been hosting the only industry show dedicated exclusively to Home Theater. It is call the MidWest Audio Video Experience: MWAVE. I couldn't make it last year, but I was able to get to this one. I brought my camera and grabbed some clips sharing my experience at the event.

Matt, thanks for coming to MWAVE. I'm really glad you enjoyed your time and were able to "be present" without having to think about emails, meetings, and other business. Just hanging out with a bunch of like minded obsessed home theater dudes. Exciting things are in the works!
Are they ever gonna have this event in Toronto Canada? love to go to one .... i went to one years ago it was a hotel with a whole floor rented out to different vendors .. it was awesome
It was nice to meet you Matt. Thank you for taking a few minutes to chat with me as I know you had a lot going on. Hopefully you enjoyed our booth at Deep Sea Sound.. If you would like to partner up at some point, please reach out! Thanks.
Side of home theater I never knew existed.
This was an awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
Heck yeah Matt. Thanks for sharing your "perspective". Hopefully, I will be able to join in 2025!!
Awesome stuff!
🔈👍🏻😀 I love the audio content! Thanks Matt!
Great video. It was awesome meeting you at MWAVE!
Mega cool Matt...keep the good times rolling!
Didn't see any Screen innovations new black screen there...would be cool to see your opinion from a critical side of things...as in the no BS sales garbage!
Good to see so many brands at MWAVE!
The SVS room was my favorite by far!!!
Looks as though Ascendo came with their lower end line of speakers and chose a waveform setup rather than using the kick sub and infrasonic setup. How did it sound?
I really liked it. If I were to build a dedicated theater, I would seriously consider a set-up like that.
Thaaaaaaank YOU!!
Anthony Grimani’s room stole the show for me. It too now need to find a way to afford a Trinnov
What would you describe it as?
Yes and how would you position Storm room against it and against other Trinnov rooms (as it seems Trinnov was used quite a few rooms). And also other Trinnov rooms vs Storm room. Thanks
@@ChadAV69it was a perfectly balanced system. The dialogue was super clear without being harsh, the surround effects moved through the room seamlessly, the speakers just melted away into the space, all while having a super concussive/dynamic bass. The bass was so impressive the big booms from the bombs while inside the plane and then the more diffuse explosions on the wide shots was impressive and something my theater today doesn’t demonstrate. All that and the tiny details in the tings of the bombs dropping were perfectly detailed.
@@sebnalet me level set that some rooms had storm and most had trinnovs. Interestingly enough, even some of the 2 channel setups were using trinnovs.
The JTR room was running off a storm and sounded as crazy as you would think with that many subs. But was def boomy, cus of the subs and lack of room treatments.
The grimani and RBH rooms were on trinnovs. Brian in the rbh room who has 0 affiliation with Trinnov was telling me when I inquired, that it was the best piece of gear he has owned in 30 years. And I found out why, TLDR Hollywood uses trinnovs in most mastering spaces. So if you have a trinnov, you are going to hear it the way it was mastered, on the same gear it was mastered on. And with the modularity of the design, you can continuously upgrade things like DACs and hdmi boards. And since it’s completely software driven it can continuously evolve as new audio formats are developed. Albeit at a cost.
Storm is all similar in features but isn’t the Hollywood standard and from what I understand. So if not saving a ton of money why not buy the box the new audio formats are being created on, which from what I understand is the trinnov.
@@stephenmcgauley Thank you for sharing your in depth thoughts/findings. Keep in mind that calibration will make 2 Trinnovs sound different. As you know different rooms will do the same. The same goes for Storm. Thus professional calibration is highly recommended.
Wish you had went to see the Dreamediaav Display area
Matt, when you come to Austin, do you want to buy my Dynaudio contours? I want to try some JTR noesis.
I'm a big Magnapan fan.
Ty!
I know they weren't here but I'll keel evangelizing for Lyngdorf. Their MP40 2.1 and MP60 2.1 processors are ones you'd love. Insanely powerful processing, but so easy to use.
Between this room and SI's (Stereo Integrity) room, which one would you say had more bass output?
JTR by a million miles
I love my SQL-15, I couldn't imagine 8 of the 24s lol
And how about the bass in both rooms. Storm vs Trinnov. Did DIRAC Art had upper hand or maybe you did not notice much of a difference between the two rooms in bass reproduction?
The Trinnov/Germani room had the best Bass Management.
@@ObsessedGaragethank you for coming back to me.
As there were few Trinnov systems and other member has commented that Grimani's sounded a bit on a bright side.
Did you ever feel it was a theme in a way, the tendency among Trinnov systems to sound a bit more on a brighter side with less body to the sound that Storm systems present?
Thanks
That looks…. A lot nicer than New Orleans I’ll say that much
I mean, that’s not much of a compliment. Kc definitely looks super clean and nice tho.
Still working on an angle for you to do a collab video with Michael Stevens and Pete Denny from GCI Turf Academy, 3 of my favorite TH-camrs.
Thank you for the kind words Zachary.
Was always an HT first. Then I got my first new car. That’s when I got into detailing. But it’ll always be HT first.
I remember using my first paycheque at 14 to buy a Pioneer AV receiver, it was $600, still in use today
Found Matt and OG through youthman! Was wondering who'd be in on Obsessed theater!
Me too. Really didn’t get into detailing until i got my first new car a couple years ago. Home theater will always be my number one hobby. I just love movies and television.
@@rayvalero8580 same i'm a movie and music nerd to my core. just need to get matt to fall in love with some audi stuff and i'll be set for this being an everything channel.
That was awesome! You make me wish I had gone. :( I'm really looking forward to what "The Obsessed Home Theater" store will like. That fact that you put Dynaudio studio monitors in your garage speaks volumes to your taste in sound quality. If I were wealthy, I'd have you furnish my whole home.
-I could listen to Anthony Grimani all day long. He makes complex things so easy to comprehend.
-I'm curious... Did the JTR room sound good, or was just a new form of DB drag racing? I saw a clip on facebook and everyone had earplugs in.
Jeff was showing off in that room. I didn't sit down and listen at normal volumes. It was too much for me in the demos they were doing.
I was kind of bummed you didn't give your thoughts on the Grimani room. I've seen many folks say it was the best one of the show overall. Either way, it must have been a blast being able to sample some truly top notch gear in a place with like minded people.
It was pretty darn good. At $260,000 for just audio and design, it is a little out of range for me, so I don't spend much time considering things I'm not going to get.
I understood many missed out on the grimani room. Lines were long
I would say that the JTR room was way more over-boosted than the Stereo Integrity room was. Neither sounded great due to rattling in the ceilings and walls of the convention center partitions. Both JTR and SI subs should produce way more output than any reasonable theater would need down to single digit Hz frequencies.
I thought SI didn’t have a great demo setup. Two tower speakers and eight 24” subs, and no screen.
When I listen to speakers or consider systems at any trade show, I'm listening to tone and initial character. A few hours set-up in a hotel room tells us very little about how a system performs overall. Same with a projector...
👍
Don't forget JBL Synthesis.
What did you think of Grimani's room vs Storm room and in general Storm vs Trinnov rooms as there were few?
Let me know if you can as I am thinking about one or the other :)
Germani's room was superior with the Trinnov, but he put a whole lot more time into tuning and set-up. I did like the team from Storm. I've met both the Trinnov and Storm people. They are very similar.
Hello sir, I have a new batch of polishing machines recently. Would you be interested in helping me test them
Matt - for a wash and talk can you elaborate on your comment on being "Present". 19:42
Noytrick ans ashendo?
Trinnov or nothing… the OG way!
if you upgrade i want a chance to buy your contour 60I's
I don't know if I could ever give those up.
I have the S 5.4s which are basically the earlier model, inverted array which looks way cooler to me, and has the esotar2 tweeter. Come pick them up for $3k. They are rosewood with original boxes.
@@ObsessedGarage I had the chance to buy a set of 60s that a dealer in Tennessee had on demo for 6k ..I wasn't blown away when I heard them briefly ..but after thinking about it I have been kicking myself for not getting them
@nyrep1 I've been chasing the right pair of dyns since I heard them at a home theater store in Austin about 20v years ago. Now I finally have a pair but my heart is with magnepan. I have a few demo videos of magnepan vs dynaudio vs martin logan.
@@morejelloplease will check it out ..thank you
If KEF isn’t there I’ll pass
I was at mwave and Those Ascendo will more than give KEF a run for their money.
@@stephenmcgauley not even close
@@rainmagic1 I guess some people just like one speaker brand. To each their own.
KEF is nice, but they would be my 25th+ choice of speaker. Especially for Home Theater.
@@ObsessedGarage are you serious Mwave not even close maybe out of the price range but no comparison
