When I was a kid (71 now), we lived in the country and there were lots of clear creeks and streams that we played and swam in and were on our neighbors' properties. We always took a trash bag to pick up trash, broken glass, whatever so we didn't get hurt and to keep it clean for our next visit. We also cleaned up branches and debris. The property owners appreciated our efforts and never minded our passel of kids using their property. I still pick up others trash, clean up in restrooms, etc. Always leave it beytwr than you found it!

I visited a friend in St. Augustine FL and we were on our way to dinner. She detoured to a beach. She handed me a bag and a pair of gloves. We spent an hour picking up trash. The disgusting thing was most of the trash was within 15 feet of big trash cans - if not closer. I was glad we did it but it was a hot day. I was sweaty and disheveled by the time we got to dinner. It was a tapas restaurant and everything was delicious.

My uncle was the Fire Chiefin our little home town. He'd take us kid, put us in a safe area, and let us watch controlled burns. People who bought land with derelict houses on them would have the fire department burn them down. It gave rookie firefighters experience on house fires. They had competitions with firefighters from neighboring towns that were fun, too. I sure miss my sweet uncle.

Thank you for taking us along for the fire starting party! It's a good land management to start burning debris on the forest floor, as TX and CA are dealing with the mess. You know you, your family and the property will be safe from wildfires or at least manageable to keep them at bay during the hot dry seasons. Keep those contents coming!

Daniel, you are absolutely correct about burning. I live in Oregon and a few years back the State admitted if they had kept up with the clearing of the forest floor the fires would not have been as bad as it was. The farmers burn out the fields here to kill any unwanted growth and to enrich the soil after the season of what they have grown. It is better to clear because in the hot dry season the lightning will start fires like in California. There is a lot of forest on the west side of Washington, Oregon, and California. Beautiful country.

Great video. I have to say that your sunglasses sure reflect back a much different view that reality. In the one scene it looked like you were driving into an inferno. I’m in San Diego, Ca and we have a couple of years of low rain amounts and we get ‘burn warnings”. We get a year of good rainfall and the next year we get “extreme burn warnings” because of all the new growth from the rains. My thoughts and prayers are with those in the Texas with the major wildfires. You’ve got to work with the land continually to stay safe. I’m glad you are doing your part for the watershed, the land and your family (and burning stuff make you feel in control - without being an arsonist). Thanks for sharing and you’ve got a great fire boss in Earl!

Danial, you are a good steward of your properties. I live in one of those stupid states where they don't manage their forests. Fires can be terrible but it is the most natural way to keep control of the litter on the forest floor and prevent huge fires. In the MidWest which OK is a part of, before all the population and fencing etc, Fire was natural way for the prairies each year.

I watched him set fire to themafter he created a safety zone on both sides of them fence. I was amazed at how quickly they caught fire and disappeared. The next day he sprinkled the ashes on his dormant garden.

I installed a water tank and 3000 psi gas pressure washer to the water tank on a side by side ATV. That used as fire control works unbelievable. The pressure washer atomizes the water to extremely well and the tip pressure pushes the fire in any direction. Uses 2.5 gallon per minute. To increase the water capacity of the unit pull a trailer with a tote on it.

Yes, Daniel, most people don't understand the terminology of burning and understand the importance of it.

I like and understand what and why you burn we had a 220 acres and we had alot of hay fields. But one time we had a guy working on the chopper and we think he was smoking and we had a unplanned burn that almost got out of control thanks to forestry department seeing it 2 miles away everybody's land was spared we had no fences left for the equipment they bought in. But the land looked amazing. Oh I just love Earl.

Holy cow look how big Kelsey is. What a blessing to have a life long friend. Fire is cleansing and promotes healthy growth. I'm 73 and have seen large burns and done small burns of my own. I love Sulphur Ok. Probably cause I was born there. Gotta say Earl is one cute loyal dog. That little fire starting can is cool. Beautiful!
