I am from Tamil Nadu. People adore lord Muruga here. There are 6 temples of Muruga that are designated as Arupadai veedu (6 houses of the lord). The temples Tiruchendur and Palani are among them and they are some of the most visited temples in Tamil Nadu. The Tiruchendur temple is especially beautiful as it is located right on the seashore. The speaker is right that people gladly accept pain in the workship - piercing the body with vel etc. people also take hundreds of kilometers of padayatra during festivals. The lord Muruga workship is also common in places like Sri lanka, Malaysia, Singapore -wherever there is a sizable Tamil population. A lot of Malayalees also visit the Palani temple, which is quite close to Kerala The Kanda shashi kavasam and Kanda guru kavasam are very popular Tamil chants of the lord. A lot of Tamilians have Murugan as their Kula Devam. People get their hair shaven at Lord Murugan temples (Pazhani) just like Tirupathi. I thought one of the reasons why Murugan is worshipped by folks in South is because Sage Agasthiyar came down here bringing Lord Murugan worship along with him. Muruganukku Arogara.

His life story was a miracle, he plunged into the depths and abyss of vices and a passing away of a close relative pushed him deeper into abyss and pushed him to commit suicide and Lord Muruga's anugraham brought him back to his senses and made him the most intense upasaka of Muruga ever. He wrote the Thirupugazh ( the divine glorification) on Lord Muruga and musically composed poems in such complicated meters that peoole and musicians even today are flabbergasted.

In exact words 'Thagappan Swamy' (Kind of God Father). Once Brahma was returning from kailash, he didnt notice lord Muruga in path way. When lord muruga greeted him, he did not notice and went away. When Brahma was asked for the reason, he said I didnt see. Then Muruga asked How come God of Creation who can be careless about the pathway also. Then Muruga asked, Do you know the meaning of Pranav Manthram i.e. OM. Brahma replied that I don't know. Muruga surprised and arrested Brahman on the same spot for the punishment of not knowing the meaning of OM. Then all god appeared fearing the unbalance of Universe including Lord Shiva. Everybody urged Muruga to release Brahma. But he refused. Then Lord shiva asked, then you tell me the meaning of OM. Then Muruga said, 'Yes, I will. But the one who learns must be obedient and the one who teaches is Guru'. So Lord shiva put kneel down and took kid Muruga in his lap. Then Lord Muruga taught the meaning of OM to Lord shiva's Ear. We still have temples in north of Lord Kartikey. Here at my place main temple is in Kugti (distt Chamba Himachal) , here we called him Kelang Bajir. To do parikrama of Manimahesh mountain (where lord shiva gives darshan as mani on Janamashtami & Radhaashtami) we first visit Kugti to take blessings & permission from Kelang Bajir . Also every year when local shepherds start their journey to cross high mountains (passes) they first take permission of Kelang Bajir (Lord Kartikey).

He is considered as eternal youth. He was born to annihlate the demon called Surapadman. However. He did not kill the demon but made the submit to him. The demon was made into flag (rooster on his flag) and peacock as his mount.
I am from TN. Rather than making it a Tamil or South Indian thing, I will share my actual experience. Palani Murugan is my kula devata. After following Rajashri Nandi in late 2023, I started doing some basic Bhairava Upasana and I was always confused whether to focus on Bhairava or Muruga. On Jan 1, 2024 I got this feeling to visit Arupadai Veedu (6 Armory Houses of Lord Muruga in TN), and while visiting each of them I always had the good fortune of visiting a famous/strong Bhairava Temple nearby. There is some relationship between Bhairava and Muruga for me, that I am unable to figure out till date, but I am feeling blessed nonetheless. Later I figured out that among the temples where Rajashri ji's foundation does Anna Dhaana, the only temple in South India is that of Palani Murugan. Jai Bhairav Baba! Om Saravana Bhava!

But lord karthikeya is called ‘Tamil Kadavul Murugan’ which translates to ‘Murugan the god of Tamil’. He is the only god to be known in the name of a language. Lord karthikeya was worshipped actually in Kumarikandam. It was said to he the land where first sangam or group of poeple had started. Legend says when kumarikandam went down to the depths of the sea, the people from there migrated to south india that is tamil nadu. Traces of muruga pooja can also be found in sreelanka. So i was saying that karthikeya pooja started going to north india from south india. All of the six ‘padaiveedu’, which translates to ‘war houses’ can be found in tamilnadu. Also lord karthikeya was born as a ball of fire from the third eye of lord shiva. And as it travelled from kailash to the pond ‘saravanapoika’, this ball split to six pieces and fell in the pond. These six pieces turned to six lotus in the middle of which six beautiful baby boys were present. These six babys were taken care of by the six ‘karthigai pengal’ whom are considered to he the six karthigai stars. When the correct time arrived, maa parvati merged all six boys to one. You know in bengal basically the bangali people worship kartik deva to get baby.They adore him as their own child. I have also seen this puja in my didibhai's house and there goes a saying that the friends of couple use to gift an idoll of Kartikeya before one night of kartik puja.then the couples use to worship that idoll like a child.Though these all are rituals but I feel these things very positive and cute❤❤

The temples Tiruchendur and Palani are among them and they are some of the most visited temples in Tamil Nadu.
The Tiruchendur temple is especially beautiful as it is located right on the seashore.
The speaker is right that people gladly accept pain in the workship - piercing the body with vel etc. people also take hundreds of kilometers of padayatra during festivals. A lot of Tamilians have Murugan as their Kula Devam. People get their hair shaven at Lord Murugan temples (Pazhani) just like Tirupathi. Lord karthikeya is not only deva senathipathi he is also called swaminatha which means he became the guru of lord shiva when he explained the meaning of pranava to lord shiva.

In exact words 'Thagappan Swamy' (Kind of God Father). Once Brahma was returning from kailash, he didnt notice lord Muruga in path way. When lord muruga greeted him, he did not notice and went away.
When Brahma was asked for the reason, he said I didnt see. Then Muruga asked How come God of Creation who can be careless about the pathway also. Then Muruga asked, Do you know the meaning of Pranav Manthram i.e. OM. Brahma replied that I don't know. Muruga surprised and arrested Brahman on the same spot for the punishment of not knowing the meaning of OM.
Then all god appeared fearing the unbalance of Universe including Lord Shiva. Everybody urged Muruga to release Brahma. But he refused. Then Lord shiva asked, then you tell me the meaning of OM. Then Muruga said, 'Yes, I will. But the one who learns must be obedient and the one who teaches is Guru'. So Lord shiva put kneel down and took kid Muruga in his lap. Then Lord Muruga taught the meaning of OM to Lord shiva's Ear. Then Lord Shiva blessed him to be called as 'Thagappan Swamy'. One who became the guru for Dad.

We still have temples in north of Lord Kartikey. Here at my place main temple is in Kugti (distt Chamba Himachal) , here we called him Kelang Bajir. To do parikrama of Manimahesh mountain (where lord shiva gives darshan as mani on Janamashtami & Radhaashtami) we first visit Kugti to take blessings & permission from Kelang Bajir . Also every year when local shepherds start their journey to cross high mountains (passes) they first take permission of Kelang Bajir (Lord Kartikey).

I am from TN. Rather than making it a Tamil or South Indian thing, I will share my actual experience. Palani Murugan is my kula devata. After following Rajashri Nandi in late 2023, I started doing some basic Bhairava Upasana and I was always confused whether to focus on Bhairava or Muruga. On Jan 1, 2024 I got this feeling to visit Arupadai Veedu (6 Armory Houses of Lord Muruga in TN), and while visiting each of them I always had the good fortune of visiting a famous/strong Bhairava Temple nearby. There is some relationship between Bhairava and Muruga for me, that I am unable to figure out till date, but I am feeling blessed nonetheless. Later I figured out that among the temples where Rajashri ji's foundation does Anna Dhaana, the only temple in South India is that of Palani Murugan. Jai Bhairav Baba! Om Saravana Bhava!

As a devotee of lord karthikeya, there is a correction in what rajarshi nandi said. Yes lord karthikeya is the god of war and he was worshipped in north india. But lord karthikeya is called ‘Tamil Kadavul Murugan’ which translates to ‘Murugan the god of Tamil’. He is the only god to be known in the name of a language. Lord karthikeya was worshipped actually in Kumarikandam. It was said to he the land where first sangam or group of poeple had started. Legend says when kumarikandam went down to the depths of the sea, the people from there migrated to south india that is tamil nadu. Traces of muruga pooja can also be found in sreelanka. So i was saying that karthikeya pooja started going to north india from south india. All of the six ‘padaiveedu’, which translates to ‘war houses’ can be found in tamilnadu. Also lord karthikeya was born as a ball of fire from the third eye of lord shiva. And as it travelled from kailash to the pond ‘saravanapoika’, this ball split to six pieces and fell in the pond. These six pieces turned to six lotus in the middle of which six beautiful baby boys were present. These six babys were taken care of by the six ‘karthigai pengal’ whom are considered to he the six karthigai stars. When the correct time arrived, maa parvati merged all six boys to one. Hope this catches your attention and helps you get a better understanding.

I have also seen this puja in my didibhai's house and there goes a saying that the friends of couple use to gift an idoll of Kartikeya before one night of kartik puja.then the couples use to worship that idoll like a child.Though these all are rituals but I feel these things very positive and cute❤❤
