I ordered this a couple days ago off amazon for about $38 but it came with the NCVT-1 and the RT105 outlet tester. I just wanted a better meter than my HF testers I own. I'm not an electrician, just a DIY'er and the basic stuff it does is just fine with me.
FYI, as far as testing for ohms, it’s a lot more accurate if you touch the tips of the leads, not the sides of the pins. That’s why they have them plastic shields on the tips of the leads. Not only to protect it but to cover the whole pin except for the tip . There is no reason to take it off except if you want to test a receptacle. Don’t take my word for it try yourself. Just touch the tips of the pins together
It really seems like the left hand wasn't talking to right hand when they designed this. Thank you for this and all your other reviews! I believe you are influencing the consumer DMM market which will result in better value, safer and more innovative meters for many years.
A few years ago this would’ve been an decent meter. Klein is a hardware legend that makes good quality stuff after all. The trouble is that the Chinese manufacturers have just seriously outclassed them in price per performance.
I want to see you find ANY other dmm with as robust a build-quality AND a 9/1.5 VDC battery tester for $35 or whatever the cost. I’m defending this for sure. I went to buy an outlet tester to shortcut some troubleshooting- at HD, I found what I wanted With a stick tester And THIS all for $40!! aside from a lighted lcd, I don’t ever need more in the field. Cheap enough to replace w/o a thought and can survive a little trauma as well. WHO ever needs a meter to measure resistance any faster than they can turn the knob on a pot or varister? Crappy review- you miss the mark. This thing is a Great value for MY money. Oh. And thank goodness you’re not in forensics- nobody took a Dremel to thisssss, Mannnnnn! Lol. Geeeez
@@naroxcpe1964 Besides the lackluster display, poor ergonomics and ho-hum feature set it always surprises me that these dmms are still popular despite the fact other multimeters offer so much more.
Obviously trading on its names reputation! They're going the way of Craftsman back in 1990-2010. Sure glad you reviewed it - you're saving a lot of people from being ... basically, scammed. Thanks.
Great teardown video, super helpful! Can anyone please help me out with what the little components on the board are that are at D12 (an orange cylinder) and R1 (black square next to the light blue circle)? And what importance they are to the multimeters functionality?
D12 is a Zener diode, it may be related to reverse input protection. R1 is an smd resistor used as part of the input protection circuit. Both are required.
And what would happen if either of those were either missing and/or messed with and I tried to use it? I'm asking for my own safety, someone gave me this and due to his nature, something told me to check it first before I went using it. And as I'm watching your video, I noticed that D12 was unsoldered and missing and at R1 there is 2 soldered, one on top of the other. That may be a common thing, but I personally haven't seen it on anything before. I just dont know whether I should use it or not.
@@bbblondie Most welcome! Sounds like the meter was repaired or modded. Unless you know what you're doing I would not use the multimeter except in low voltage scenarios..checking batteries etc.

Thanks bro, very helpful review. I agree on the continuity aspect, it is slow, about 1 sec to get the beep.
No option to choose AC?
Im new at this. I assume the reason for the delay at sounding the speaker during continuity test is "disappointment"?
Yes, any delay isn't good. A good continuity is fast and preferably latched.
