Last year on Christmas my good friend showed up to my house with 2022 GTS and WLW. We cracked them both and he gifted me the remainder of the GTS. Easily one of the best gifts I’ve ever received!
Damn! That is a good friend!
The best!
I just need 5 friends like that, they can each bring a BTAC😎🥃
Thanks for the review and thoughtful gesture! Due to building friendships when I joined the bourbon community, I was given the opportunity to purchase a bottle of 2020 GTS at retail. First and only time that’s ever happened! Loved the 2019 and 2020 gts, and hope to try this new one. Thanks again! Cheers.
Relationships in the whiskey world are not only rewarding, but sometimes lead to the opportunity to drink some good whiskey. Cheers!
This is what I love about bourbon, that you can get such a variety from the same recipe. Another great show. Thanks Gentlemen.
Our pleasure!
Good stuff! Awesome review. I scored a GTS today for 150 (Chicago area). Can’t wait to crack it open!
Can't be mad at that price! Congrats!
I found a 2023 GTS for $399 today and it was a no brainer.
Congrats!
Amazing gaw. Never seen a any BTAC bottle before, so i shoot for Stagg Jr. Finally, I got one from my local go-to store. I have mever asked for any bottle. Its a business and i know i spend little money so it came out of nowhere. I just go to hang out and try to get a bottle 1 out of every 4 visits. Just a great husband and wife team.
Sounds like a good relationship. You should foster that. Offer samples etc.
My first time trying GTS was the 2022 and the bar had it for $18.00 a pour. It's the best bourbon I've ever had.
I would have to agree with you!
I am yet to have seen any of the BTAC but I was lucky enough to finally be able to sample a regular Stagg at my local cigar lounge. Hopefully one day I will be able to try the George T Stagg 🤞🏼.
Good luck on the hunt!
I just picked up a bottle of GTS 2023 on Monday for retail. First BTAC. I’m over the moon. I have a great relationship with my local small store.
Congratulations! Have you tried it yet?
@@BourbonRealTalknot yet. I might have a special occasion soon to open it. If that doesn’t happen then I’ll just open it in a month or so
Just scored my first Jr (23b) and looking, as we all are, for a GTS! Great Channel guys.
I have loved every Stagg Jr I have had. It is a solid pour.
What a fun history. I was lucky to find one somewhat on secondary this year (double SRP) but not full secondary. Wow! What a great deal on your first bottle. Thanks for sharing the tasting, hoping to pop open on Xmas. Glad to hear you’re a fan since it is one of your favorites and have tried several more.
Congrats on the find. Enjoy that Christmas pour!
I’m in the state lottery and they are featuring the BTAC and pappy. I’m a big rye guy so I’m torn between if I win which is about as possible as me getting struck by lightning but if I do between the GTS or the Handy. Great review. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. Enjoy.
I have not released the review yet, but I have the 2023 THH too. It is a good year. It always has a pine needle component. In bad years it pine starts to taste like pine-sol smells. This year it doesn't have that. I did try the GTS and THH side by side, and I still preferred the GTS even though this year is weird. For a rye lover I think they would be happier with the THH. Hope that helps.
Got two regular Stagg's last week. Great episode!
Sold find. I love Stagg too!
GTS is currently my unicorn. Never even see it on bar shelves around here.
Good luck on your hunt!
In the most incredible way I got 2022 GTS beginning of this year and last week I got 2023 GTS both below MSRP. I dont make a lot of money and I live a simple life with my wife. I am saying this because its a big deal the we were able to get GTS for a price we could actually afford. I highly respect yall’s opinions on bourbon. With that being said, I am so excited to hear how you feel about GTS. Special occasion is coming up next year and we cant wait to open 2022 release.
I am happy for you. I open mine as soon as I get them because I don't "drink" them, I "taste" them. They last at least a couple of years and I am not going to sell it, so it doesn't matter if it is open.
I would pay up to $300 but the cheapest I have seen them for in Md in the last several years is $993 and higher. 😎🥃 cheers gentleman
Good luck in the hunt! Cheers!
I was fortunate enough to buy a bottle of GTS 2022 for $159.00. Like everyone else it is one of my favorite bottles. I like the idea of comparing the Full Poof with the GTS.
Lol i like the everyone else comment, i wasnt fond of the 2022 gts. It was a very love or hate gts release.
I am not suggesting the Benchmark so alike you would not immediately know the difference. They are very different, but it is a great way to learn about age and barrel selection.
@@BourbonRealTalk I'm with you. I didn't think you were suggesting that.
Have not found a GTS in my local liquors that isn't a mortgage payment. One day, I'll find it and hope it's as good as everyone says it is
Good luck on your hunt!
Great video and thanks as always for doing more than most channels by actually SHARING!!! Giving us little people an chance at tasting some hard to find and unusual whiskey! Keep up the good work and MERRY CHRISTMAS AND CHEERS EVERYONE!!!
I hope the channel will gain a reputation of being generous and grow. Merry Christmas!
I just had the opportunity to have my only pour of GTS at the Sazerac House in New Orleans. It happened to be the 2019 GTS and was great. I hope one day I get the chance to own a bottle.
Good luck on the hunt!
Great content as always! I know several others who feel similarly as y’all do about GTS. I have not been fortunate enough to try any BTACs yet, but still enjoy listening to the reviews you guys give!
Good luck on the hunt. They are worth a splurge pour at a restaurant.
Was lucky enough to score my first bottle of GTS last week. It's my Favorite bourbon to date. I also agree it has a very different note that I've never had in a whiskey before. Great content as usual. Thanks!
Was able purchase the bottle at msrp!!
I have tasted that musty note before, but never in GTS.
Got to try GTS, WLW, and THH last may all great !
That is an epic flight!
Fantastic video as always. Unfortunately, very difficult to get the btac releases around here due to all the flippers that chase the trucks on their delivery dates and the bottles don’t even hit the shelves before they are sold.
Luckily the stores around here have stopped rewarding that behavior, and have developed systems to make sure the bottles go to their best customers.
That’s awesome. One wine and spirits manager here at a local grocery store opens the btac bottle when the customer purchases it. 😂
@@brettmccormick163 That violates multiple laws in TX, but I get it. I personally think it is a great idea.
This is very interesting. I have tried a sample of Stagg Jr B18 vs the Benchmark FP before. You can see where the Benchmark is headed. Compared vs the GTS would be a fantastic comparison! Cheers and Happy Holidays.
Good luck in the randomizer. Happy holidays!
The ultimate unicorn! One day I WILL find one! Love the channel and the message.
If you keep looking you will find one eventually.
Great show. Going to have to get some Benchmark Full Proof!
You won't be disappointed for the price!
Regarding that "weird/dusty funk" you tasted, a social media user who spoke with Drew Mayville at a recent Buffalo Trace dinner event, said that they asked Drew what happened to the 2021 barrels that were not released for GTS that year. Drew apparently said they kept aging them and that those unused barrels eventually made it into the 2023 GTS. If true, this means that this year's GTS has (at least) 17 year old barrels in the blend. That age, plus the fact that those barrels were originally deemed too off profile (or whatever) for release that year, could possibly explain the uniqueness/weirdness of this year's release.
Note: I originally tried linking to the post on the site where this was being discussed. But my comment kept getting deleted, likely because I gave the link and/or referenced the other social media site by name. If you want to find it, just do a search on that site (the one with a large bourbon subgroup) for a review of Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey (Batch 3, 2023).
This is an interesting theory. If true it would mean the information Buffalo Trace released about the age of 2023 is incorrect. The website says the barrels were all distilled in the spring of 2008. GTS has been just over 15 years old for a while. It would be weird if they were planning a 13 year release in 2021, pulled the plug in preference for 2 more years of age, and didn't end up with a bunch of 15 year barrels and 17 year barrels in 2023.
@@BourbonRealTalk It's totally reasonable to question this claim. However, I have no reason to doubt the original poster of the claim (it/they seemed genuine enough), and I went back and read this year's GTS release letter. It says that it is comprised of barrels aged for "more than" 15 years and 3 months. So it's totally within reason (and not uncommon in bourbon) that the age refers solely to the youngest barrels in the blend. And I mentioned it here as I thought it was interesting and might help explain the uniqueness you mentioned. Great video, as always!
EDIT: Given your connections in the industry, perhaps you might be able to get the definitive truth here, one way or the other. It would be great to discuss in a follow up video, if you find anything. You might even consider an episode or series where you attempt to prove or disprove this (and other) bourbon ”conspiracy theories". Bourbon Mystery Theater! We all love a good bourbon mystery. Cheers! 😊
@@michaelrice4024 Since they said specifically that the barrels were distilled in the spring of 2008, I thought that would preclude them using barrels from 2006, but you are correct that this would be legal and a relatively normal practice.
@@BourbonRealTalk See my edit at the bottom of my last comment above. I think your channel would be perfect for discussing this (and other) such "bourbon mysteries", as you always seem to follow the evidence and make very well-thought-out arguments. Your channel is by far the most objective and "fact based” of those I follow.
I have searched for the barrel proof Benchmark and just haven’t found it. In Alabama, at our ABC stores. Would love to try it. GTS would be insane. Love the channel!
Thank you for the support!
I’ve had the pleasure of trying 3 out of the last 5 years GTS. I could have bought the 2019 for $400 and I passed. Kinda regret it now. But usually the local cigar lounge will put out GTS around the Christmas season if they get it and me and a few friends get together try it. Definitely an experience to share with good company.
That sounds like about the best use for a bottle of GTS I can think of.
GTS is one of my favorites! Wish I could find one at MSRP for the birth of my first grandchild! 🥃
Good luck on the hunt!
Very cool, I’m glad you guys got a bottle and were able to do a comparison. Sounds like an interesting year!
Interesting would be a good way to describe it. We have a few more epic reviews coming, along with giveaways!
Would love to get my hands on a GTS one day! Cheers!🥃
Good luck!
Excellent video. The GTS is one I would definitely love to try. Thanks for all you do. Im going to enter the drawing because I’ve never tried the GTS, but if I win please pass the Benchmark full proof to the next person. I already have a bottle of that one.
You will have to remind me if you win, but I appreciate the gesture.
I am not sure about tasting “Grandmas basement”, but it sounds interesting. Thanks for doing a giveaway!
I don't know if you have had many "dusty" pours from the 70's and 80's, but they all develop with musty/dusty flavor. It is like that.
The 2022 Thomas H. Handy, I think, was my first BTAC pour. I also tried the George T. Stagg and William Larue Weller from the same year and whether due to preference or tasting environment, the Handy was still my favorite experience of the three. (The WLW wasn't served in a Glen, unfortunately.) Still crossing my fingers for a lottery. Haha.
I have this year's THH too, but have not released the review yet. It is a good year.
Thankyew Randy! This is an awesome giveaway per always! I just finished my benchmark full proof, and would love another bottle for free! Plus GTS!! WOO-HOO! Cheers 🥃
Good luck!
Kismet! I was finishing up an ounce of 23 GTS perusing TH-cam when the algorithm blessed me with real talk.
When I could find and finally afford a GTS was 2018. The first pour of 23 tasted like a proofed up eagle rare lots of grape and oak. I was kinda disappointed. A week later and there’s my beloved. Maybe it was a bad day for me my first taste, maybe it needed to open up, but sweet baby Jesus I love GTS.
I have done side by sides twice, and both times I got the funk on 23. I am going to do a side by side with 22 and 23 today and see how it goes.
Thank you all. What you do is inspiring!
Thank you for the encouragement!
I own a liqour store and this is the first year ive had so much blantons, eh taylor and other allocations...but only 1 bottle of this.
I am not sure what equation Saz's new wholesaler is using, but it seems odd that you would have a larger allocation of some Saz products but not all. Interesting!
Nice review guys. I, too, have a special relationship with GTS as 2007 was my first bottle as well. Remains my favorite bourbon ever.
It is pretty epic. Even though I tried it when it had been low fill and open for 12 years or so, it was still great!
@BourbonRealTalk Same for me! I nursed that bottle along for many many years, did not want it to disappear.
I was able to pick up a Makers Cellar Aged yesterday, can’t wait to open it. I would love to try a GTS someday. Thanks for the great content!
Thank you for watching! Good luck on the GTS hunt!
I love the Benchmark series bottles as far as getting to experience quality lower priced bourbon, especially if you're unable to find the Staggs. I've never tried any GTS. I'd be excited to get a sample. Was worried when I saw the headline saying its weird. Weird in a good way! I hope to find BTAC one day.
I have never heard a bad word about Benchmark. Now if only it would show up in Albuquerque.
@robertmckay9863 I've been able to find mine at small liquor stores around the area. No bigger liquor stores had it. Little by little I see them at bigger stores. Not the whole line up, but I've seen full proof more
I have no idea why Benchmark FP is easy to find in my market, while regular BT is hard to find. I would much rather drink the FP.
Lucky to get it at $179. I would be happy just to see it in the wild at anywhere close to that.
I was not mad at all at that price!
Didn’t win a GTS in the raffle this year just like everyone else but I’m still super bummed because I’ve never had the opportunity to try any BTAC and I would very much like to😔
They can be pricey, but it is worth a splurge pour at a restaurant.
GTG one was the first high proof bourbons i tried ! thanks BRT
Our pleasure!
This was a very cool video. Glad you snagged a GTS this year. Still looking to get my first BTAC. I have tried the 2019 GTS and it was pretty darn good. Cheers! 🥃
We have a few more epic reviews coming!
Love the channel and prodeful goat! Can’t wait to see what you bring in 2024!
Thank you. We are releasing an 8 year and rum finished rye in TPG on 1/20/24 at the distillery.
I just picked one up yesterday 136.99 my first ever BTAC bottle I can’t wait to crack it open!
Let me know if you get the funk too!
Waiting for Santa and watching your channel. In on the drawing.
Good luck!
Thanks for offering these giveaways. I just got the opportunity to purchase a 2022 GTS so looking forward to trying it. Cheers
I like it more than the 2023. You have a good bottle there!
Wow this is a great giveaway sir. I'd love a chance at possibly tasting a GTS and that benchmark. Sadly I've only seen the regular benchmark 8 around me
Luckily we get all the benchmark regularly in my market. Good luck in the randomizer.
Love GTS! I got a bottle of last year’s batch which was amazing. Would love to try the 2023 version!
Good luck on the hunt!
I was able to try the 2022 GTS and WLW just last week. Going into it, there wasn’t any question for me which one I was supposed to love - the WLW - but it wasn’t even close. I’m in love. 😍 I know it’s not likely that I’ll see a bottle of GTS that I can afford but a guy can dream, right? 😂
I know plenty of people who have manifested GTS. You will be no different. Just put it out there and it will happen eventually.
Love that you are sharing some great bottles with everyone!
Sharing is what whiskey is all about IMO.
Love to try a BTAC esp GTS. Thank You.
Good luck!
Love Benchmark and GTS is also my favorite of all time!
I always have a BMFP opened with a bunker, even though it is pretty available in my market.
Love the video, George t. Stagg vs. benchmark full proof...i just got a benchmark fill proof in Iowa, and i dont think it is close to Buffalo trace and eagle rare 10. I had stagg jr. Once and did not really think it was much above eagle rare. Would love how to see you think George t. Stagg stands out against stagg jr. Vs eagle rare 10...and benchmark full proof of i get is the same mash bill...but it hard to think the cuts get clese to stagg even..guve me a chance to tryt
We can do GTS, Benchmark FP, Stagg, and EHTBP since they are all high proof, but If you through a ER in the mix it will stick out like a sore thumb.
Excellent video and opportunity!
Glad you liked it!
I’ve got me some blade and bow right now while watching your video. Have a great day guys!
Enjoy!
Great video! I have a 2022 and a 2023 but I have not cracked open the 2023 yet.
Thanks! Let us know what you think when you try it.
Great information you just gave about the benchmark being the same as the George T stag
Glad you enjoyed it. Age and "barrel selection" make them different, but in all other ways they are the same.
Cool thanks for the opportunity!
Good luck!
Next time I see GTS on a menu, I have to try it.
It is worth a splurge pour at least once.
Love the channel and get a kick out of y’all dancing…yes, I’m from Beaumont Texas and said y’all…
We do get down from time to time🤣
Never have tried it. Love Eagle Rare and Weller collection. Happy New Years!
Hope you get a chance to try it someday! Happy New Year to you!
I am a fan of the benchmark FP. Not available in my area, but try to grab all I can find when visiting in TX. Cheers and thanks for the video!
Our pleasure! If you ever make it to north Texas hit me up and you can come have a pour in the studio.
Nice of you to do the giveaway. Merry Christmas
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I live right in the heart of bourbon (Kentucky) but BTAC is so incredibly hard to find. Mostly all lottery systems. Maybe one day I can say I’ve tried GTS! Love the content.
Thank you for watching. Good luck in your lotto!
My local mom / pop liquor store got one in a couple years ago. He told me he had to sell it for close to 1000. He had to sell it for that because of what his distributor made him pay. He did not make much profit, but it sold quick.
Not sure I would do 1000.
I hate hearing stories like that. At the end of the day that store owner owed it to his customers to say no so he didn't have to take advantage of his patrons just to make no money.
@BourbonRealTalk
He's normally a decent guy, fair on prices, just a bit over if he knows you. But he said the Stagg, not the Stagg Jr cost him more from his distributor....
I thought it could be possible.....
@@keg9850 That is likely untrue. Wholesalers have a contract with the producer and can not change prices willy nilly. It may be possible he had to buy a bunch of other inventory he didn't have customers for, that he had to sell at cost, to get access to the bottle. That could lead to a situation where he needed to sell it for $1000 to make the money he should have on the other inventory, but again, he should have just said no.
@@BourbonRealTalk The distributor probably didn't jack up the price on the bottle but made him buy 50 cases of something that taste like kerosene. I have a store that's offered me a GTS for $1000 and his going to include 12 bottles of Kentucky 10 with it. He gave me bottle today to try for free to see how I liked it. I've watched a few videos about the K 10, and they sounded pretty positive. Thoughts?
@@jamesknox7171 Never had K10, but 2023 GTS is trading on the secondary for around $700 right now, so your store owner is out of touch.
I had the chance to purchase to 2023 when I was in Ocean city. It's a hefty price tag but I've always wanted one and I should have pulled the trigger because secondary is just insane. Cheers
If it is between secondary and SRP, I consider it.
Have not had the fortune to try GTS but hope to one day!
Hope you get to try it someday!
Great video! Never had the GTS before so I'll just imagine how good it is! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
I agree. Too many people b**** about the 2019 GTS proof. It's still a great whiskey. I havent tried the 2023 but I Love the fact that it has a funk. Cheers! 🥃
Glad you love the funk! Cheers!
Love George T Stagg, but also hate that it’s impossible to find. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
I bet that if we did have a time machine and went back in time and told them to make more because demand was going to be sky high, they would not even believe us. It is what it is I guess. Thank for watching and good luck.
I can't find Benchmark here, and it gets very good reviews. I would love to have that bottle. The sample of GTS would be fun too. 🙂
Good luck in the randomizer!
Still waiting to find a pour at a resonable price. Hopefully one of these days. Great show as always!
I found a place selling GTS for $16. I ate there every day for lunch until it was gone. I had the same bottle at home, but it was cheaper to drink it at the bar.
Great videos. Hope to get my hands on one of these one day.
Fingers crossed! Thanks for watching!
$179 is a steal. Great show.
Thank you!
Love to try that George T Stagg have a few Stagg Jr's haven't seen the btacs version in person
Good luck!
GTS is my favorite too. 2022 was awesome
I tried this next to 2022 and l liked the 2022 much better.
I hope one of these days I am able to partake in experiencing GTS some day. Thank you for the review.
Good luck in the hunt! Thanks for watching.
I have been waffling on buying your aroma kit. I struggle with picking up the aromas and tastes. I would hate to buy a kit and then find out that my nose and tongue are defective. Is this a common concern and do most people gain the ability to profile bourbon after using these kits? I am looking forward to finding out once I get the GTS and Benchmark FP.
I have had other people express this concern. My impression is that everyone has the ability to develop their palate if they work at it, but that does not mean anyone can work hard enough to become Nancy "The Nose" Fraley. Some of it is genetic. If you find it enjoyable to be able to break down whiskey, the kit in practice would yield a positive outcome for you if you work at it.
Bechmark FullProof is just nasty imo. Deserves that spot on the bottom shelf with the other $20 bottles. .
I’ve only seen it at one place and they want $1100 for it…i hope one day i will have a chance just to sample one
Maybe you can find a pour at a bar. I found a place for $16 per pour a couple of years ago. I ate lunch there every day until the bottle was gone.
I've only ever had 1 pour of GTS about 12 years ago.... So long ago I can't remember how good it was.... Some day?
Hopefully this is your year!
Hope to score one before I depart this earth!!!
Good luck on the hunt!
My one and only time of trying GTS was on vacation 3 years ago. Don’t know what year it was but it was amazing.
The batch variance is usually small enough to not make much of a difference IMO. This year might be the first were batch variance was enough to cause some people to dislike the year.
@@BourbonRealTalk would be amazing to study the information on the batches to see where this years variance comes from. I’m by no means a chemist or biologist, but I enjoy learning the sciences behind what goes on. The pure whiskey world is intriguing.
@@Mdsmw1985 I don't think there is enough public information for a consumer to do this, but the distillery could.
Before I knew better, I had an offer to trade my newly acquired Lot B for a GTS. I want to go back and smack myself in the head for turning it down. LOL
I would much rather drink GTS, but I think the Lot B has more value on the secondary, so your decision was not without merrit.
Love the channel ! Love GTS !! Need I say more?
That sums it up nicely! Thank you for the support!
Fun video and interesting info on the George T Stagg. I didn't realize that each year they were that different.
The difference isn't normally as noticeable as this year's.

I hope so too, and it was our pleasure!
Done!!! Definitely excited to try this one! Good video!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the review and the opportunity to try!
Our pleasure! Good luck!
Best video I’ve found on the GTS so far, now I’m not feeling bad about considering the price tag
I think I have discovered the funkie note is genetic. Not everyone can taste it, which is likely why my review will differ from others. I have the gene.
The 2022 was AMAZING! Did you guys try it? No one mentioned it... We put it next to the 20, smoked it..... I bought 3 last year. 159, 500, 850. Worth EVERY PENNY
I have had 2022. I never tried it side by side with the 2020.
