I've owned German Shepherd/wolf mix I kept 2 of the litter of 11, they were very smart, loving & protective! I have always loved wolves.. I am mainly a German Shepherd person, but I love wolves.

All the spitz dogs from the various sled dogs to Pomeranians and the super intelligent American Eskimos (an offshoot of the German Spitz, they were very popular circus acts in the late 19th/early 20th centuries because of their trainability). But you missed one of the most ancient breeds, attested by their appearances in Paleolithic north Asian rock carvings, the beautiful Samoyed. They aided their tribal owners at hunting and reindeer herding as well as pulling sleds and guarding the camps into the 20th century. Reindeer herding may even precede the development of sleds. They do depart in a couple of ways from wild wolves. They are very cheerful and love people. Their very thick double coat adapted them to life in northern Siberia, an ancient and modern habitat for wolves.

I've had 5 purebred Alaskan Malamutes and my current dog is 3/4 Siberian husky, 1/4 timberwolf 1/4 Alaskan Malamute.
Intelligent, magnificent, superlative dogs in every way... And absolutely gorgeous to boot.

Yes, the Samoyed would be a good addition to the list!

You forgot the Basenji. Probably the closest of all.

You could definitely make a case for the Basenji to be on the list!

We have a dog that is about 1/3 Husky. His mom was Beagle and his dad was Husky and Lab. And, MANY years ago, we had a dog that was part wolf and part German shepherd. I say THIS ALL now BEFORE I EVEN HAVE WATCHED THIS video.
I am sure that after seeing this video, I will be surprised to see that CERTAIN DOGS ARE actually closely related to wolves.
But, the dog that we once had that was part wolf and german shepherd, he was a sweet dog with people. But, he was NOT great to be with small animals. But, he was a really great dog. I wish that back when we had him that DOGGY DNA TESTS existed. And, actually NOW, I want to get a doggy DNA test, so that I can test our OTHER dog. I THINK that she MIGHT have some "PITTY" in her. She is NOT 100% Pitty, BUT, she is a POSSIBLE part pitty gal. She is adorable as can be.
It would just be a real PLUS to be able to know what breeds that my dogs are.

They sure don't act like wolves--but it turns out they are very similar to wolves genetically!

According to the YOutube all those Malmutts and Huskies can actually talk. :)

I am here AFTER watching this video. And, I have to say that MOST of the dogs shown here are NOT from the USA (America)
and although people in the USA DO own these dogs, these dog breeds are not native to the USA.
I have personally seen MANY people that own Huskies, and they make MANY videos of those Huskies TALKING. SO, just bear in mind that these Americans that have adopted HUSKY pooches, AND, those pooches seem to be HAPPY.
Our family has a 1/3 Husky pooch, but, he doesn't "talk" very much. I have mentioned HIS STORY below here. But, anyway, ALL he NEEDS is his 2 cookies, his meaty chew snack and his 1 RAWHIDE chewy. and, he will be fine.
Besides just HIM, we have our "pinker stinker". And, so, I am HOPING that we can all get those pets credit as far as us all seeing that some of these pets are worthy of credit as being great pets.

I see that by "closer", you mean "older". You don't mean "genetically closer".

All dogs are related to wolves, but some here sure do NOT seem very closely related to them. Mostly the small ones with brachycephalic noses.

I own a Shit Tzu and i've read a lot about them. Many sites say they are genetically closely related to wolves. I was shocked my self. The list in this video is spot on re all the dogs mentioned in this video.

@@msanjelia Wow, yeah, you'd never think the small dogs in this video would be very closely related to wolves.

@@juliegogola4647 the only releblelance to a wolve my little Shih Tzu has is when he howels. He does it when the dog next door is barking for no reason (according to my dog and he wants him to stop). It is really cute. And shih tzu bark is really deep and loud. The breed is 3,000 yrs old so may be this is the reason for the close DNA to wolves. Still Shih Tzus dont acte or look like wolves.

    • @juliegogola4647

@@msanjelia Okay, now that's a bit unexpected. Our part husky dog doesn't even howl. I'd expect small dogs to all just have a high pitched bark. Our family has only ever had 1 small dog. And, he was a dumped off dog. He was very old and blind little Pekingnese dog. He was walking around on a rural road that was close to our house. We took him in, and he lived about another year or so. He had really bad teeth and was blind and a bit senile. So, anyway, we like big dogs, or medium sized dogs mostly. But, we did love the little guy that we found on the road. Back in the 70's and 80's, we had a wolf hybrid. He was a great dog with our family, but, he was dog aggressive.
I just sent in a doggy DNA test kit to find out what our female mixed breed is made up of. We'll love her anyway, but, I was curious. Okay, thanks for the reply.
