    Beyond the diversity of mechanics and cards in general, Legends is probably the best example of truly iconic card naming and some of the best real hand created art that ever existed in the game. So many of these cards, given a different name and artwork would go right in the garbage can, but there is a magic in this set that just makes them greater than their game play value. It's a testament to value beyond 'value' in a gaming context.

  • @TopNotchCock

    Ever notice how several of the sets with reserved list cards often have treefolk as the final RL card from that set?
    Arabian Nights: Singing Tree
    Legends: Wood Elemental
    The Dark: Wormwood Treefolk
    Urza’s Saga: Weatherseed Treefolk
    Then you’ve got winter themed cards as the final for all the ice age block sets:
    Ice Age: Winter’s Chill
    Homelands: Winter Sky
    Alliances: Winters Night

    Yup, I am one of the buyers of any/all Arabian Nights commons and uncommons I can get my hands on, along with Legends, Antiquities and yes even The Dark. Actually I buy all old commons and basic land from Urzas, Ice Age, Tempest, Mirage,etc. I can never get enough of the old stuff. Can't beat the beautiful art!
    Honestly I could listen to Rudy talk about MTG cards all day! Love how much he appreciates the history! Brings back so many memories!!

    • @Yellow_Magpie
      @Yellow_Magpie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FanEAW yeah, water tight is defo an overstatement, but they are definitely more splash proof than traditional inner sleeves. How good the seal is on inner sleeves is just as impacted by the tightness of the outer sleeve. Pair the dragon shields with some tight ultimate guard katana's and you're going to have a much better seal than you would with the much looser dragonshield standard sleeves.

  • @coryrigali4675
    @coryrigali4675 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those sleeves are pretty easy to use.
    You insert the card about 75% of the way in, then pop the flap in, then sort of slide your thumb on the flap until it locks the card into place.
    Tolarian College recently did a review video where he dunked the cards in water and they didn't get wet with those sleeves on.

    I was 12 or 13 when my uncle gave me a ton of revised sets back in the early 2k's. Mercadian masques was the set that was out when I started getting them on my own. I remember going to the store and buying boosters for all the old sets. The ice age boosters were some of the more expensive ones then; and I remember the Urza's block boosters too. Man this brings me back.

    • @NiceGuyPCTV
      @NiceGuyPCTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am quite dismayed at the lack of English comprehension a lot of the Magic 'tubers exhibit. If they had stronger vocabularies, the names of the cards would start making sense. Example...Oubliette. The title tells you what the card is about, if you know what an Oubliette is. Granted, it is derived from French, but still maybe do a lookup one time. BTW Rudy...it is pronounced Ooo-blee-et (yes I know you butcher some names for comedic value). Some of these guys have been in to Magic since the beginning...and 27 years later they still can't pronounce the card names. Proper names and made up words...that's forgivable. English words, face palm.

    • @antoniop1017
      @antoniop1017 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@NiceGuyPCTV Somewhat agree, but to play devil's advocate - many people who started playing MtG when it came out were kids when it launched. We mispronounced cards over and over, and those mispronounced names stuck in our heads over the years. Sometimes I catch myself saying a card name how I learned it, then I'm like, why am I saying it that way - that's not the name at all! hah

  • @digitalnomad9087
    @digitalnomad9087 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think starter decks are undervalued because of price perception. People remember that a starter deck like challenger goes for $25-$30 something on the market but when a few of the cards creep up in price in it they remember the sticker price initially. Even with commander decks for Zendikar and Kaldheim, people didn't think it would have been as good to start out because of the price point, but the Elf deck shot up in price and was sought after on Amazon

  • @HeroineDark
    @HeroineDark 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As someone who switched to the dragonshield folding inner sleeves after the professor's video....slip the card in upside down until the opening of the sleeve is inline with the black/red symbols. Then fold the flap around, slip it under the flap, and use the tucking of the flap to push the card in the rest of the way.
    They're weird, they make sleeved EDH decks too big for most deck boxes, but for the higher end cards they're worth the hassle.

    MTG question. How would reprinting cards on the reserves list change or hurt their value? It doesnt make the older cards easier to get. Would assume it would be like remaking collectors toys from the 80s, the new ones would still be new and the originals stay just as scarce.

    • @voluntarism335

      most people buy the cheapest version of a card a reprint would crash their value as people would just buy those, iconic alpha/beta cards will still hold value

    • @1998wiwi
      @1998wiwi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost all these expensive cards are expensive because they're very strong, and thus played in Legacy, Commander, and Vintage. If they were reprinted, they'd only be left with whatever value they have as collectors items. Look at trash cards from alpha, they're not really worth all that much compared to the good ones.
