I've now decided that this is too complicated for the RB and would need a lot of practice to perfect. Back to pressing with 6 I think.

At good hockey levels this press is immediately negated with a simple aerial pass to the free man... Every central defender nowadays can throw it at least 50m in the air!

Hi Greg, I am concerned that the fitness of the players will come in to question. especially when you you at the players that could do overheads into the spaces behind the link line, what are your thoughts?

I have the same worry. haha. I wouldn't expect them to press like this all of the time and simply just let the transfer happen and hopefully choose the moments to strike. I changed it from a traditional W press as I found that was more side to side running and a quick couple of transfers would tear it to pieces. In theory, this should be a lot less. I also take 3 players for every 2 positions on the pitch and they rotate every 8 mins so hopefully the players can handle it. If a team has a good overhead then the space between the lines of the opposition are normally greater and therefore our press will be over a larger distance (CDMs etc may be on half way and the CF/CAM on 23) so it would have to be a pretty good overhead. I suppose you could just drop it to a 3/4 and encourage them trying to play through the centre.

Do you think that if the strikers choose when to apply pressure is also important. We lost an important match against with similar attack and at the last 5 minutes of the game they applied so much pressure that the defense couldn't outlet properly and a good overhead in the right space released that pressure. Well done on the explanation I enjoy the videos.
