Brilliant video... I was pulling my hair out with the new ios 16 update, after it broke my image resizing shortcuts and this has sorted it, pure and simple!
I mean, WOW! Not being a coder or something cool like that myself, this was the COOLEST thing that I have ever done with my iPhone!!! Great video, perfect instruction and it totally works so I can now send snaps to people who don't have iPhones (format issues). I am now on the hunt for other MacMost videos cuz, um, coolness!!!
Great video If you are on an ipad, the instructions to change the icon for your new shortcut, are a little different. (At 2:58 in this video) After creating the shortcut and going back into edit the short cut, you wont find a drop down arrow beside the shortcut name. But instead you can click on the default icon for the shortcut you just made and that will open up the options you need and you can then follow the rest of the instructions
And i have a screenshot which i even drew some arrows and lines around where you need to click, but it appears i cannot upload it as a comment on this post sorry

On iPad so looks a little diff. This is so fast I cannot even keep up on slower play speeds 😭 Taking a half breath between steps would be tremendous helpful.
Very good instruction, thanks. The reason for me to resize an image is to reduce the total size of foto's. So I wonder if anyone knows a method which can add some steps to this routine to delete the original foto's after the resize.
You would just have to manually delete it. But reducing the size of individual photos is a bad way to save space. You'll regret the loss in quality of your photos of friends, family, events and such at some point in the future.

Great learning lesson on creating short cuts! I did have to sloooow down your rate of speech and that worked out great. It felt kinda like programming in old BASIC. Assembly is what I love most, but after a couple days I got it. I kept messing up because I didn’t notice the blue DONE bar that would appear at the top of the screen, that required my selecting it after some of the, I believe were, variable changes. Thank you very much for your tutorial, it’s very good. 🤝

If you are sure you have it set up right, did you look under Edit Actions at the bottom of the list and see if you need to add it? Are you using it in the right place, with an image selected?

Excellent video. It seems there’s a limitation on the amount of photos you can resize. For example, I tried resizing 85 photos and a prompt pops up saying “you can allow this in settings”.. What can be done to increase the amount of photos to say 200?
I don't think you can do any more. I think it depends on how fast your Mac can make those changes, But this really isn't meant for large batches like that. What is your use case here? Maybe a real image editing tool on a Mac with batch processing functions is what you need.

Bummer! The last sharing thing I tried didn't work on my iPhone. the sharing card just don't show up. I'm on iOS 17.1. so I just changed it to copy to clipboard.
Thanks for providing an updated version for iOS 16 of one of my most used shortcut. However, 2 bigs caveats that I tried to fix myself, but was not proficient enough with Shortcut to properly do it: #1 Resize will occur as well if image is smaller that the requested size. Therefore the image will be upscaled and I don’t want that, if smaller I just want to go to the JPG compression and Metadata removal. #2 I would prefer to use “longest measurement” (height or width) rather than width so output is consistent in maximum size (portrait / landscape).
New Info Undated. Thank you for Gary’s great tips and it worked out after I tried another 3 hrs. 😅 I followed your video for multiple photos but the function isn’t working anymore. My updated software is iOS 16.7.2, and actually your first 3 minutes video is possible for multiple instead of single photo now!! I also figured out that I need to add “Get” (shortcuts from…) in order to have a camera resize icon in share under the photo app. Thank you for your tutorial and I hope this update info could help someone out there!✌🏻😃
So close...but I cannot add the save "REPEAT IMAGE" in the last command. It only lets me choose a Converted image. It also will not allow me to do more than 15 images at a time. Any solution to this???
Thank you this is great! I've been unsuccessfully trying to figure out if there's a way to program the shortcut as follows: resize the photo, delete the original, send resized photo directly back into the photos app, This would help my workflow tremendously for my work!
@@oneoeach Perhaps I'm missing something here. You mention "work." So these aren't regular photos (vacations, family events, friends, etc) but some sort of work project? Maybe consider saving those to file instead of Photos? I still don't know why you wouldn't want to keep the high resolution versions around, ESPECIALLY if they are for work. What if later you want a different version of the image. Wouldn't you want the original to use for that?

Perhaps it isn't the number of photos, but something up with a particular photo in the bunch?

I get to the 'save to photo app' (3:49) and I it executes the reduction and gives me a tick, but it's still in photos in full resolution, no change.
This doesn't replace what you have in photos, it saves a file.

I had issue on a iPad with a some images refusing to resize. Converted image first then resize worked.

This is great, but I wish you could slow down!
No way. the pace was good. It’s sooooo annoying when it’s too slow. If it’s too fast you can just slide it back 20 seconds and see that section again.
You can slow down the video.
Just go to the settings of the video and select the playback speed you want.

For me the short cut app created doesn’t show up when I select share on a photo. So I think a step was skipped.
When I click on the image after creating the shortcut, then I click on chair the action button of the shortcut does not show up for me
Am I missing how to rename the resized photos? Maybe a way to automatically add something to each filename?
You can certainly build more complexity into the Shortcut to do things like that.
After choosing a photo my share menu does not include the Resize Photos shortcut option. What can I do?
Check how you set it up carefully to make sure you didn't skip something.

Not sure why you would want that. Resizing the photo does the same thing. Why the extra work of making it disappear and reappear?

Make sure you have it set up like I show in the video. Then make sure the object you are trying to "share" matches the shortcut input settings.

You’ll have to try different sizes to see. Compression is different depending on the content of the photo.
