one suggestion (around 1:42). When photographing men or women portraits, it is always a good idea to check to see how the subject looks in a very big smile. Showing the gums of the subject does not show the subject in the best "light" so when a model such as this has an issue with the big smile take the photo and show her the result and then allow her to close the mouth a bit to eliminate the gums but show the nice teeth. Just a thought I learned at least 50 years ago. Nice use of the 2/3 facial view to this point of the video. One other non editing issue is the visibility of the fastening clasp of the necklace which normally would be at the back of the neck and therefore not visible (at least it looks like the clasp. One other item that often is overlooked often when using Butterfly lighting with artificial lighting. In this photo the butterfly lighting is fine due to the lower level of the light striking the subjects face. However folks may want to really be careful when using artificial. If the light is placed too high and the subject smiles too great, the shadow from the nose will come below the lips and invade the teeth of the subject. Try to keep the nose shadow 1/3 of the way down the subject's lips when the subject is smiling. Easy to check when using digital compared to using film. The items being mentioned are not things that can readily if at all be fixed in PP and must be at the time of exposure.

You're welcome. Thanks for the question Actually could be a bit of both. You can boost the structure effect and even apply a second instance if necessary, but for non-commercial portraits I prefer to leave a bit of pore detail. But video compression added by TH-cam can also appear as artefacts. Similar thing happens on a beautifully transitioned skies but YT vid can show banding effect.

While I love taking and editing portraits the videos rarely do anywhere near as well with resonating with the audience so it's hard to justify keep creating free content in this genre. However, I really enjoy making these vids and your unwavering support of my channel certainly lends more weight to your request, so I'll certainly bear it in mind 😀
Her forehead is quite patchy. Was that a rendering artifact or did you see it as well? I use luminar less and less and use capture one more and more, but I enjoy your channel and find the tips quite transferable.
Yeah, a bit patchy. To be fair this clean up technique is very crude. It's quick - that's its big draw. However for a more refined and professional looking skin retouch you'd definitely want to employ more traditional (and unfortunately time-consuming) techniques such as frequency seperation, localised dodge and burn, clone etc etc. Or look into bit.ly/ApertyPortraitfor an automated AI approach that's more dedicated to the purpose of skin retouching.
@ I bought Aperty the day you put up your video on it. I have to say that so far I find it mostly a more refined version of what’s available in the main Neo app. It’s sloooow and the heal tool is quite buggy. I am afraid that they will not improve it. There have not been any big updates. I hope it doesn’t become an orphan program left to languish. It does the job, but for the price tag I can’t say I would recommend it. If they improved the speed, got less buggy and maybe refined some of the tools then it might be quite okay.
@@nutin321 Yeah, not as familiar with Skylum's long-term plans for Aperty other than what they said to me prior to launch which was that were bringing in a dedicated team to work on it. I really like the automation of the skin cleanup but I'm not sure that the it was justified in the launch price. I think they've since scaled back the pricing structure.
