      wdrauch I like how the 60 means basically absolutely nothing without the other number for the tire. I had a 60 series tire with 5" of rubber between the rim.

      my current vehicle has a 55 side wall and aren't low profile. My oh my how the times have changed. 50 series were ultra low profile back then

      @@lilsammywasapunkrock The point is he calls it "low profile" tires, which even on the narrowest width, like 185, that would be 4.5" thick. This thing was riding on 225/60-16, which is 5.3", basically an SUV thickness by today's standards

    I had four LSCs as company cars between '84 and '89. Each one was an incredible automobile. Loved them all. Thanks for the memories.

    Those 5.0L were tough, durable engines, I love their distinct sound as they start. I still recognize it today when I hear it.

      I got tons of compliments... named her Dutches ; the thing with the high torque and RWD is hard to drive in snow but love it soooo much; 87 with 130k original miles with only 2 owners,
      Only see one other one driving around in the last 6 years, it’s white mine is silver... crazy crazy not letting go of it for less then 6k it’s in perfect condition.

      Nichole Crouch yeah they are fun cars just not in the snow going up a big hill lol besides that and the Gas mileage (mine only gets 14mpg highway on the readout inside the car, so much technology for its time) shows how many miles you have tell your on empty ... just the coolest features, lots of power, heated side mirrors, ABS, shit the car has more technology then some of the brand new cars out

    Mrk 7 was a technology marvel at the time, so many things were pioneered and vastly refined for that car. What a gorgeous interior on that car. I hope to own one of those some day, I think the design is unique and striking, not to mention the updates you can make to a 5.0.

    My wife still drives her '88 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, which was a birthday gift for her endless 35th b-day, women never seem to age past 35 lol. Although I had to have the leather on the driver's seat redone the rest of the cosmetic areas of the car has held up very well, even the paint (it is garage-kept though). I had the engine worked on when she got to over 200-K on the odometer, but even before the work, the old Lincoln still drove very much like it did when we first drove her off of the Lincoln-Mercury dealer's lot. We live in The Netherlands, and even with these rough old narrow brick roads, she has no trouble navigating them in the least. I've offered to buy her a new Lincoln, or 3-series BMW but she refuses to relinquish the Mark. I had the old Mustang type HO 302-ci rebuilt and beefed up a bit, so she now has over 430-hp and 445 Ft-lbs of torque. She uses to go through a bit of oil before I had the engine redone, but now with all that power, the only thing she goes through now is tires lol. My wife just loves the styling, and I agree, it's one classically beautiful luxury/sport automobile! I drive a new BMW and often take her Lincoln, but she never even thinks about taking my car lol.

    I bought a new '88 Mark VII in 1988. Amazing how the front end drops and the rear raises in a hard stop in the video. My girlfriend, who's now my wife took the car from me in ''92 and drove it for a few years. We both liked the car.

      This is one ugly and cheap looking car. I liked the T-Bird of the day, and I liked the Mustang, but this thing looked like some sort of half thought out abortion hybrid. It's just ugly.

      I had one. Nicely built but a pig. A t-bird in drag. The air suspension is garbage. Mine from new was nothing but problems and the dealer could never fix it under warranty. I was glad the day I got rid of it. Say what you will about GM, my Eldorados never gave me as much headaches as this Lincoln. I did have a Mark VIII that was better but not by much. Still think Cadillacs are better cars. My opinion.

      daddyrichten I do remember it from the time, and I remember it being ugly even then. The issue was how good the Thunderbird looked - they screwed up the styling here making a good looking car look half-ass, then charge a premium price on top of that. The car made no sense to exist in the form it existed.

      I love the styling! This was my first car. Reliability was decent. I remember problems with the air suspension- driving down NJ 18 bouncing all over the place. The starter solenoid used to stick on occasion causing the car to stall. Other than that the car was really nice to drive, comfy and had a really great stereo for its time. I’d love to get my hands on a Mark 8!

    I own a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII Bill Blass edition. They came with the same drivetrain as the LSC that year. Let me tell you-it's a BLAST to drive. If you want to do upgrades-anything you can do to a Mustang GT-you can do with the Lincoln as well.

    I still like these cars and think they were underrated. To this day they still look good and many of those competitors that MW lauded do not.

    I have only fond memories of driving one of these when I was 16, a friend's dad's car. It's now 32 years later and I still would like to have one. I think being in the great lakes area has just made it hard to stumble across because so few are left intact around here. It ripped like an auto mustang GT of the era. Great torque!

    Beautiful car. Styling is gorgeous. Thunderbird is beautiful, and this is a luxury version of the Thunderbird, plus the 5.0 Mustang engine. 300lbs/feet of torque. I mean, I don't see a single fault in this car. I must say that this and the Eldorado of the time are my two all time favorite American cars.

      Mine had a sun roof . Never leaked. I had one from new. It really was a beautifully finished car. But overpriced.

    I have a 1988 LSC, same color combination, and it is pretty great. It lost a little of the mpg and acceleration capability over its 100,000 miles but its a very comfortable and good-performing car, and they go for dirt cheap nowadays. Just watch out for AOD implosion and airbag leaks.

    This brings back such great memories... I owned an '88 LSC, same blue color as the one in the video with the blue leather interior....a real sleeper for speed, my LSC was able to embarrass many other drivers in the mid-1990's (like over confident Fiero drivers, base model Mustangs, etc.)...the overhead console with compass and temp gave an airplane cockpit feel.

      I loved the LSCs back in the day! The crazy thing is in September 1991, I bought a 1991 Honda Civic Si for my 21st birthday, and unbelievably, that little 1.6l 4 banger would outrun the mighty LSC to 60 and in the quarter. Unreal. The LSC sounded far better though.

    I had an '88 LSC from 1993 to 2000. What a fantastic car! I love the looks, and the car handled great for its size. Plus, it had a plush ride on the freeway. It made me feel special every time I got behind the wheel. I bought it with 45,000 miles and sold it with a little over 150,000 on the original engine and transmission. The car started nickel-and-diming me after 100,000 miles but was super reliable up until then. I decided to get rid of it when the combination ABS/master cylinder needed replacement - a very expensive repair at the time. I then bought a '97 Mark VIII LSC and was very disappointed. I disliked it so much I sold it and bought an '89 Bill Blass Mark VII with 26,000 miles - it was another great car to drive, but the problem was that it was a 13-year-old car. After so many years, Ford stopped making some of the repair parts (especially the troublesome ABS/master cylinder unit) so only poorly remanufactured parts were available. I'd buy another '88-89 LSC in a heartbeat if replacement parts (especially electronic parts) were still plentiful.

    I had an 85 Mk VII, The 5L motor they had was detuned compared to the Mustang. 180HP vs 225. I pulled the motor and dropped in a 92 5.0 with MASS air, A cam, Mac Shorty headers, Flowmaster free flows and cats and had 2.5" pipes custom fitted. Rear end was swapped out to 3.73 , Hurst shifter as well. Cragar wire tru spoke wheels and 50 series dunlops with a 2 " drop. The car has an air bag suspension so the sensers only had to be custom mounted to change the ride height. It was a sweet ride. Jr is still pissed at me for selling it.

      i have a 1992 Lincoln MKVII LSC SE and it is honestly the most well rounded car I've driven in terms of being an all around good car. It floats like a caddy and runs like a 'stang. great cars and real rare to find anymore

    I rode in a Mark VII some time in the 90’s, and damned if it wasn’t the quietest, most cosseting car I’d ever been in. Built from a Thunderbird but much different.

    I owned one of these. I bought it used in early 2000. It was such a great car. This car was made when cars where not made entirely out of plastic. The spare tire was practically the size of a full tire. And the car jack was like something you would see a mechanic using. The car I bought after that was a Honda Civic. That car was like a go-cart.

      Hob Goblin it had a mini spare (unless you had a 86 or earlier as mentioned in this video) and the jack was the same cheapey scissor jack used into the 2000's.

    I think Lincoln should go back to making cars like this. They need big RWD sedan with V8, a Smaller RWD sedan with V8, and inexpensive FWD sedan, and a RWD coupe. Plus the Navigator, which needs to be a little cheaper than the escalade.

    I love how they refer to 60 series tires as 'low profile' lol. I drove one once (the mark viii w/the cobra engine was even better) from Boston back home to philly and it was the most comfortable car I had ever driven. Falling asleep was a real concern if I remember lol :)

    I owned an 88 LSC White, cranberry interior, changed out the stock wheels to BBS wheels, like the later LSC wheel, my favorite car of all time, I owned a lot of Lincolns large and smaller, even up to a 2002 Lincoln LSE which was garbage, been driving Mercedes since then, still think about my 88 LSC and my 96 MK VII

    Love this car! I remember my wealthy CPA cousin who had a big job for Harrah's casino in Atlantic City had one. I was just a young kid, but he would give me rides and talk about his many girlfriends. My floppy sneakers barely stayed on my tubesocked stocking JV baseball boy feet, man!
    I still think it looks great. But I still see it as that 15 year old all-American kid. Which is awesome. :) JV Johnny

    My younger self liked that the Mark VII looked like a period Thunderbird. I always thought the Thunderbird was a handsome car, and that Bill Elliot and Alan Kulwicki won championships in them made the Lincoln association that much cooler. A neighbor had one and loved it, and with that 5.0 Windsor repairs would be cheaper too.
    Also, I would have enjoyed shifting around in that back seat too. Would have required some good leather cleaner afterward, but at 5'5" I would have easily enjoyed it all the same.

      +WikdSeafood It's easy to do, there's a couple of people on the Mark forums that have done it. It bolts right into the engine, it's just that the shifter doesn't work with the console very well.

    It's funny how things have changed. John Davis kept berating the LSC for it's styling, but when you look back on it now, the Mark VII was way ahead of it's time. I don't fault him for it though, we have the luxury of hindsight. He, on the other hand, was accustomed to the boxy plush cruiser look of the time. This is evident when he uses the term "American land yachts." Davis believed this to be the car's purpose, but he was wrong. Ford set out to make a European fighting luxury sports coupe (LSC) it wasn't supposed to have a giant instrument cluster, nor a dash that looked like your grandparent's china cabinet, nor a velvet covered bench seat. It had a driver focused cockpit design, beautiful luxury buckets, aerodynamic design (for its time) and power. This car absolutely blew away anything Cadillac had at the time. The 88 Eldorados and Sevilles had a meek 155 hp 4.5L V8 that had worse fuel economy and were a PITA to work on because of the transverse mounted FWD design. The LSC was more than a second faster in the quarter mile and handled much better.

    Wow not too much respect shown for the H.O Mark vii in this video. I've wanted one of these since i was in grade 3...I just unexpectedly bought an 88' LSC this past summer. 68k miles paid $4500 CND, came with a grand in new tires. Id say its in 8.5/10 condition. (needs a couple paint-less ding repairs). And I have to say, having an airbag suspension paired with the amazing lsc buckets, this is one of the most comfortable cruisers you can find for the money. Not to mention, it's just a uniquely beautiful car. I do understand that it's a love it or hate it kind of car looks wise. I personally never found a taste for the Lincoln Mark 8. But by actually driving one, most people would be pretty quick to change their minds on these cars. The 320 ft lb of the bullet proof H.O can do 0-60 in 7.8 seconds all stock (pretty much as quick as my 03 4runner 4.7 that has same amount of torque)...and it feels much faster than that when you have a set of new mufflers.

    Miss: Motorweek gets it wrong.
    The Mk VII was designed first. When Ford redesigned the T-Bird after the early 80's version flopped, they were directly inspired by an early design proposal for the Mk VII.
    So the Mark doesn't look like a Thunderbird.
    The Thunderbird looks like a Mark.
    Get it right Motorweek! Lol.
    For a car in a more exclusive price point, the Mk VII sold well. It was never going to sell as well as Cougar and Thunderbird. It was a more expensive technology flagship.
    Just like the Toyota Soarer was never going to sell like the Supra.

    I always in my opinion the Mark Five was one of the best looking of the Marks,I also was a fan of the 72 Mark Fours.What I liked about the Mark Fives is the body was styled to blend the mandated front and rear bumpers which is was no small feet in those days

    I bought a 1988 Lincoln mark 7 in 1990 it had only 2 thousand miles on it it was a very dependable car and fun to drive I drove it for 13 years I wish I still had it

    I had 2 '88s. Got my first one when i was 19. I've owned 6 Lincolns over the past 15 years: an 89 Towncar, a 2002 Continental, & a 2012 MKZ, and currently a 2013 MKZ. Lincoln needs to make another car like this. Everything was perfect about the LSC: nothing beat that 4-wheel air ride, and they haven't offered a coupe in their lineup in 18 years. This and the Mark V by far had the most testosterone. I wish I would have owned a Mark VIII, but not for aesthetics haha.

      not necessarily...neither Mark ever left me stranded, i was just a teenager/ early 20's when i had em, and i wasnt making real money back then to keep a 13-20 year old car in optimum condition. the towncar went after 300k on the motor, the Conti I got into an accident with, and i traded my 2012 MKZ for the 13. i will buy another Mark within the next year or so bc now at 33 i have more than enough disposable income to keep it A1

    Do you have any video or indication please on how to change the alternator please ? It would be of great help.
    Recently my mark VII LSC brake pedal went super hard then came back to normal, brakes were working fine and again the pedal went hard. What are the possible problems and fix ( budget ) thanks so much of anyone reading this would have tips or infos .

    Surprised the 0-60 time wasn't a little better. It's the same as my '84 MB 500SEL with only 184hp. You would think it could do 8.0 seconds, but maybe the rear end ratio was made tall for the highway mpg rating.

      I have never seen the 225hp variant Mark VII test that slow. Something is odd here. Typically they tested in the high 7s. At least a handful of '88s made it out faster than even that. Our '88 pulled low 7s, and I heard of a few other people with '88s that were aberrations like that, but normal should be around 7.9.

    The 0-60 test on this one was definitely way off. Almost impossible to run 9.1 0-60 and then 15.6 in the 1/4. 9.1 0-60 would put it around a 17 flat. I bet it was really somewhere in the mid 7 second range as it seems as though that’s what those cars were capable of.

    Overweight T-Bird? Put them side by side, and it becomes obvious that they are entirely different vehicles. Every proportion is bigger. It's almost like comparing a Tempo to a Taurus, but not quite that extreme. Put them on a track together, and there will be no question which one is more nimble.

    I had an '86 Cougar with an ex police 351 Windsor that I found an '88 LSC donor car for charcoal grey seating that was very nice! Car was bad to the bone!
