Microstructure Evolution in Isomorphous Systems

In this video I describe the solidification of a binary alloy cooled under equilibrium conditions (that is, cooled slowly). I show with cartoon sketches how grains (crystals) form below the liquidus and grow, ultimately forming grain boundaries. I also discuss the compositions of the solid and liquid phases during solidification.
