      Tull is one of the most complicated groups you could ever see. There are others, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Alice Cooper and quiet a few more from that era. I consider myself lucky having seen all three and several more

      Seen them twice live, both times were amazing. The enthusiasm you seem in the audience of this video is exactly how it is, everyone just gets totally into it. There used to be a rumour that the white dust you see coming from the balloons was cocaine so they used to pop them just for a snort, sadly it was only talc.

    Jethro Tull are a British progressive rock band formed in 1967. The group’s founder Ian Anderson plays flute & acoustic guitar & is the lead singer & quite a showman. They've had a lot of different members over the years. They had a lot of great songs such as "Thick As A Brick", "Aqualung", "Living In The Past", "Songs From The Wood", "A New Day Yesterday", "Cross-Eyed Mary", "Bungle In The Jungle", "Sweet Dream", "Life’s A Long Song" etc.

    Ian Anderson wrote a lot about the ills of society, this one uncontrolled population explosion. Self taught on the flute after his child brought a recorder home from school. The name Jethro Tull was taken from an Agriculturalist/ inventor from the late 1600's.

  • @vicprovost2561
    @vicprovost2561 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Yes, the great Jethro Tull, perhaps the most glaring omission from the clueless Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. These guys were huge in the 70s, saw them a half dozen times back then and they were always in large arenas and stadiums, they were very popular and it makes no sense they are still not in. Their albums in the late 60s through the 70s are utter classics and were thought of just a notch below Zeppelin, Floyd and the WHO, they were that good. Try the Aqualung album, which this song was originally from, in its entirety or at least start with the title track. These guys were dope, all you need is to exposed to some of their great songs and suites and you will see why I wrote the above. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎻🎶

    Get into it, Millie! My first exposure to Jethro Tull was this song, and it blew me away. Ian Anderson was an outstanding showman and made flute playing cool. Made me wish I did more with my sister's flute when we'd steal it and mess around. I really suggest you listen to the studio album version so that you are not distracted by the concert footage and really listen to the lyrics. The Marshall Tucker band also used a flute particularly with their song "Can't You See" and a few others. You can't help but play air-flute listening to this much like playing air-violin to Kansas' "Dust in the Wind".

    Bass....Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge - 2nd version (1970)
    .... starts out with the bass. It also includes a use of the original 1968 Moog synthesizer with the old tech of wires and tubes that had to warm up in it's original cabinet. Before it got bigger with more capabilities. .

    Such an interesting fact. Jethro Tull was the British inventor of the seeding machine in the 17th century (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jethro_Tull_(agriculturist)). The band was named after him. Such is Ian Anderson's peculiar sense of humor. I recommend concerts. Lots of witty divertissements and plenty of jokes from the band's guitarist. Leader Ian Anderson Anderson has owned several salmon farms in the UK and Chile until the 1990s.

    Ian Anderson always seems to look like some flute weilding homeless guy that just wandered on stage. Jethro Tull is always a good time, and definitely throws what you think about rock out the window. Thick as a brick is an interesting song, it's actually almost 45 minutes long and took up both sides of the album when released

    I find it very interesting and also satisfying that so many of the old prog rock bands from this era are getting so much love in the reaction videos of today. Granted it's very possible that this work was obscure enough that for younger people and even people of older or is they just never encountered it before. But it's been great to see that the quality level is what seems to endure and bands like rush and Tall, Genesis Etc are making new fans in this area because the fact of the matter is they wrote great Timeless extraordinary music and when new ears hear it it just responds to it now this young lady is a musician in her own way, so she's going to be listening to it in a more advanced capacity, but it doesn't take much for this music to sell itself if someone's open-minded

    I saw them last in the early 2000's sort of accidentally at an event I was attending - I say accidentally since I didn't know they were going to be there at all - but it was an excellent opportunity to introduce my wife to the band, and now she's a fan also! Ian had some vocal problems for awhile, but I see now they have been making appearances again. The songs sometimes take some interpretation and thought, but are almost all universally great, delivered with a flourish only a modern bard could deliver.

    Your next live Tull reaction should probably be "Thick as a Brick" 1977 performance (where Ian was sick with a cold). The '78 performance of the song is popular, but usually prone to copyright protection. It may seem like a longer song to you, but the album version is longer. It takes up the entire album.
    Officially launched in 1967, Jethro Tull is legendary on so many levels. This is a band that well deserves a deep exploration dive.
    Ian Anderson is arguably the best live concert frontman in rock. He combines theatrics, humor, athleticism, multi-instrumental talent, and a serious willingness to entertain the crowd.

    The only drawback to this live version is that you miss the great piano solo at the beginning with John Evan.

    I guess you didn't have much faith in Jethro Tull, well, "Locomotive Breath" is one of the most mind-blowing rock songs of all time. I don't know if you noticed, but the rhythm of the song mimics the chug-chug of old locomotives. Without a doubt, it's one of the most powerful metaphors ever crafted for a rock song. And I think from your expression, Ian's flute solo must have really surprised you. Cheers, your reaction was awesome!

    "Jethro Tull" rhymes with "death row skull" -- the name is taken from a 17th-century British agronomist. Be aware that live Tull is almost totally unlike studio Tull, and both are matchless.
