    Dang, that lathe looks like a show room floor model now. I like that you're not like a bunch of fabricators that cover their toolboxes in stickers, and leave your tools looking like they've never been wiped down with a rag. I said it last time but that American flag in your vids is really cool too.

    Good example of how much work really goes into cleaning up and doing some minor adjustments to bring a machine back to life again. Nice job Keith, a lot of us are looking forward to when you put juice to this baby and see her running! Razor!

    Hi Keith,
    Enjoying the project, as always.
    You sir, need to build yourself an A-frame hoist on swivel casters.
    We're only issued 1 back, and it has got to last a lifetime. Trust me, if you damage your back, it will effect every part of your life.
    Thanks again, for all you do.

    1. rolling adjustable stool. 2. Don't forget the heavy hammer deal. 3. Paint in holes won't work. 4. Try to find a Hoyer lift for bed fast patients. The legs on these will spread out or in. 5. All this in jest, except number4. I really enjoy all the videos you give us. Greg

    I finally got to see what holds the carriage down when you cut with a tool upside down so it doesn't lift off. Good job on the handles too. They look nice.

    Keith a suggestion. On the valve controlling the hydraulic cylinder on your engine hoist. Weld a T handle on the end of the valve and then you can leave the bar in the pump handle. It is a lot easier to control.
    I did that on a 8 ton truck crane I built.

    Wow you've turned that into one "handsome" looking machine-lol. I swear were just alike on the detailing, I do things almost exactly like you do when im cleaning up an old part or machine - love bringing things back making them look new again and giving them a new lease on life. Im not a machinist, but I really like those big wide ways that machine has. they look to be in pretty good shape too, hope theres not too much wear on the ways or screw etc. -- cant wait to see this nicely resurrected piece of machinery back in action, it'll really pop in your amazing new shop.

    You absolutely read my mind when you polished the speed and clutch control levers’ ball ends! When I was watching the earlier episodes I said to myself, “man those controls would look so sharp in a two tone with the ends polished”, and now that you did it, the whole machine just looks so eye-catching with all that nice contrast. I wonder how the “Le BLOND” label would look if you painted the inset rectangular portion behind the letters white? I can’t decide if it would make the letters pop or be a little too much contrast. Either way it all looks fantastic. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these lathes and do a restoration of my own! Great work! Love the channel!

    You know a neat little load spreader used to tilt engines is a very helpful thing with engine hoists. Another helpful thing is to take the chain off, install a swivel hook in its stead.

  • @johnferguson7235

    You need to order that third hand from McMaster-Carr. I seem to always be looking for one when I'm trying to reassemble stuff.
    It's good to see you using the hoist to carry some of the weight. It ain't cheap or easy to repair a ruptured Rucker these days and finding the spare parts is tough.

    Excellent progress. Looking very good. The carriage does look to run very smooth even on the camera. A lot of effort to manhandle the apron and saddle on the engine hoist. Glad everything worked out. Well done.

    Again. a great look at that fine looking LeBlond lathe! Some hints that might help on your next lathe rebuild: Disconnect the shafts from main body. then position the carriage near the lathe, where the engine hoist will fit. Install the shafts in the carriage half way for balance and position it on ways as an assembly. Then add the saddle and hook up the shafts after everything is in position. You did a very good job doing an almost Also, how about putting some way oil in the oil can during assembly? Keep up the great work? I love watching!

    Lathe's looking great. For me the best thing is always when I only have a really terrible looking rusty piece of scrap steel to use for a job but it amazingly machines up fantastic. It's a great feeling to make scrap useful again. I could not find any cast iron though so I bought some new mehanite (cast iron) and this too machined up great on my worn out old lathe and milling machine.

    I watched Keith and he used an orange plastic faced dead blow hammer, an
    approx 4lb hammer on a block of soft wood, and he used a 1lb hammer on the dowel pins which had the extraction nuts loose to protect the thread.. I doubt Keith would take the risk of a hard faced hammer direct on a casting especially having restored so many cast constructed machines....good job Keith

    To make your hoist easier to use, weld a 4" piece of 1/4" rod to the release valve. Then you don't have to deal with that long pump handle to lower something. It can stay in the pump til you need to go up again.

  • @aserta
    @aserta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need lowering wheels on that engine hoist. Pretty cheap to buy, or, you can make your own from some flat stock. I seem to remember you had a bender, that would be an easy project. Tho, really, what you need is a counter weight mini crane.

    • @aserta
      @aserta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For whatever reason, i feel that this could do with a slightly turn wheel on the apron. A little bit more heft to it.
