- Today, we learn How To Paint Dinosaurs In Ark! After putting in all of the hard work of knocking out and taming dino friends, sometimes it can be fun to change their colors. This can be done in two ways. First, you can use a paint brush with dye to hand paint the dino. That can be tedious to say the least. It also is not very exact. Fortunately, there are admin console commands that can help you change the color of your dinosaurs without all the hassle. Simply enter into the admin console command box and use the settargetdinocolor code to change specific regions of dinosaurs to your preferred color. It can be a lot of fun to explore all the possible color combinations, and you can make some pretty cool looking new friends as well.

The painting dinos on consolis terrible. They should have made it so you can choose a section and paint it, just like the sections when using commands.
pretty late reply but yeah i agree with you. Trust me it's not any better on comp it defeats the purpose of painting your dino's anything because there is no section/palette available to you to just paint it easier like you can on buildings etc. This is something they should add in the game actually SHOULD have been added to the game on release i know they have "Easter" tames but that's once a year. And that is not somebody normally can get if they're busy during easter let alone some tame's you can't breed to begin with to get that easter offspring.

I did the same exact thing for my Allo becouse I wanted to add some different markings and I did everything on here but the paint was not showing up
So, after what seems like hours of specifically looking to be able to do this on PS4, every post is about how to do this in PC. I have NO clue why people can't just say that you can't do this in console unless you CHEAT the colors in. THIS video was FIRST in my latest PS4 search for trying to paint my dinos and guess what ?!? Another effing PC VIDEO !!!

I usually paint when i have nothing to do yesterday i had set up windmills and i had tamed a raptor i was just sitting in my base then i started painting my jerboa to look like a pikachu
Can't there just be a selection of paints and if you have the dye you can choose it

so, i know this is for xbone, but ive been having a problem on pc where i cant 'highlight the preiview window to freepaint'. i plugged in a controller and was able to now select it, but now paint wont apply to any dino or sign. Have any idea what might be the problem? Havent been able to paint since the new UI and cant find any other answers or other people having problems anywhere else.
I am painting on my dinos but its not opaque even though I made black, it just darkens the shade it already is, help?
I just got the game free for PS Plus can you do this in PvP server
Btw if your not on console or comp , if your on mobile or android just go to mortar and pestle tap on your amber the one in your inventory and hit the crush button and yo have potent dust now take a dye and drag the dye to the potent dust and you have a colored potent dust
And just feed it to your Dino's :D

Okay, so my buddy says that once you paint them the babies have a chance to come out the colors you painted them. I told him that is not the way it works, can someone squash this??
I don't think that's how it works. You're painting your dino so what the hell would it have to do with the babies? Unless they have proof then it's all assumptions on their part. Frankly I think it's a waste of time.

Considering all the controller buttons on the screen and how when he was moving the cursor on free paint it was slow as shit and not precise, and how when he said to turn in commands by hitting the triggers and X and Y and when he was “typing” in the commands he did it one letter at a time instead of you know...a keyboard...so wtf so you think, Also did you read he title of the fuckin video?

Dude, the painting features suck. I'm using black paint on a white dino (same as your dino) and I can barely tell the difference! And it's not at all accurate. 😒 I feel like a toddler trying to color inside the lines. This is not worth it.
