that assembly you removed is a combo of an oil pump and balance shafts, the balance shafts reduce vibrations in the engine

Since your going to scrap the engine. How about trying maybe a brass punch through the spark plug holes tapping on the piston. Or take your compression tester and adapt a hose fitting on it and apply air to possible force the marvel mistery oil through the rings, and maybe tap on another piston at the same time. Just a couple ideas for ya Randy keep the videos coming.

The engine and transmission usually are taken out as a assembly by lowering the whole front subframe, it's usually not possible to attempt to take either out on it's own without dropping the subframe since this is a FWD car. I would say put a low mileage used engine in it and ship it out. I'm sure you can get 5500 for it at least with a low mileage engine swapped in and a through detail. I appreciate your courage to go into these projects, it's great content!💯💯

I believe this 2.4L engine was originally a Mitsubishi design. Hyundai used it in their cars and eventually partnered with Chrysler to increase volume. They dissolved the partnership when they went their different design directions. The base engine design is the same and is still being used today.

great video! keep it up. and thank you for acknowledging that we prefer the work ON camera. it shows you are listening. as does your content.
i have a similar cheater bar. i went to home depot and bought a 10ft conduit pipe. had them cut it in half, one in half again, and one in half again. so now i have a 5ft, 2.5 ft, and 2- 1.25ft or 15 inch pipes. i believe the diameter is 1 1/2inch (maybe 1 3/4, when in doubt go a bit bigger, but if too wide it will slip off your regular wrenches) and cost less than $10. i mostly use the 2.5ft one, but have used the 5ft on occasion. i suspect that if you buy a long enough cheater bar, you can either break that loose, or shear off the breaker bar. but somethings gotta give. ;-) other than my stubbys, these have fit over every wrench i have used. i would absolutely LOVE to see what happens if you were to put a 10ft cheater on there. :-D

*This Dart has the Fiat Viaggio 2.0 Liter DOHC 16-Valve VVT with indeed a BSM (balance shaft module).* This basically a balance shaft and oil pump in one. I know from working on Hyundai's that there are delete kits for with just a normal oil pump instead. This engine looks toast. Try to find another one. But it could be that the ECU has to be flashed because most new fiats do have engine recognition. Good luck Randy, hopefully, it goes for good cash!

Randy, I wanted to see you take out the bottom end and do what you said yet to be honest....what you should have done after you took off the pan....clean up the peanut butter, resealed the pan, filled the bottom crank case with mystery oil also add something that breaks up water/doesnt hurt bearings ....then let it sit for 2 to 3 weeks trying to turn the flywheel bolt twice a week. Working with flood cars you have to be patient; you cant rush those. Also as you know by now if it aint a Dodge truck stay away from Dodge save the sport cars. Side note those Kia mini suvs the ladies love those! Also keep up the good work..your channel is getting more interesting!

that orange oil filter says it all "PAY ME NOW OR PAY ME LATER". In this case it's both and these are throw away cars so when do you throw it away. Chrysler products are very nice looking cars but their like a pretty woman and will break your heart sooner or later. Glad you decided to tear it apart so we can see what's in there and hope you will go farther and show us the real problem. Keep your head up

Fairly common to have an upper and low oil pan which are the two halves you see. The big unit is most likely an oil pump and balance shaft assembly.

That was the oil pump, named as balanced pump, common in diesels engines like the Vw Passat 2.0 TDI
