Because of my experience with using a cup with a hollow handle in the microwave I wouldn’t recommend it for that. It got very, very hot and burnt my hand. Just pouring hot coffee or tea into the cup it worked fine but reheating those same liquids in the microwave in a hollow handled cup got dangerously hot. I have never mastered pulling a handle so thank you for showing us alternative ways to make lovely handles. They are nice.
Hi Mavis. I dont open a hole from the cup to the handle so dont worry. the liquid doesnt flow through there. I would be too worried like you said about the heat and about bacteria.
My gosh you have to be theee most creative person I’ve ever not met!! Hahaha. The things you come up with are just amazing and every dang week too!! I can’t thank you enough! For me it’s hard to think outside the box of what I’ve learned. I am self taught to I’ve never had to sit though talks and classes about things that may have helped me think outside the box more. I wish I knew how to! I know it’s not much but I had to buy you a coffee. I soo appreciate you!! As I’m watching this again I “thought outside the box” lol and thought I could use an extruder to make a hollow handle!
Michele!! that is so kindest thing. You are just awesome and I am glad you are part of our team! Thank you!!!!
You're the best teacher rich in ideas. Thank you!
Wow, thanks Freedomtrail. I do a lot of research and experimenting for sure to come up with ideas.
We would have a thick piece of glass about 1ft x 6in, and roll balls (with the glass) into logs then press down on the glass to get the desired width. This works great for mass production.
Hey Gerald. thanks for sharing that. I wondered how they would to it with glass.
Thank you!!!! Love your Tips and tricks!!!!!
Hi Gloria. That is so sweet of you. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate how you “handled” the situation, Anne! Could you use a bisqueware blank to recreate a handle (allowing for shrinkage)?
I see what you did there 😂
Hahaha. I love a clever post. Yes, you could. that is a great idea.
only problem with hollow tubular handles - if you heat up a beverage in the mug, the handle gets a lot hotter than the rest of the mug - it does hurt
Hey Sheepdog. Dont worry, I dont open a hole from the cup to the handle so no liquid will run through the handle. Thanks so much for watching.
I was just grumbling about handles today! This is timely for me.
Hi Elinor. I feel your pain for sure. I hope this video helps a little.
As someone who doesn’t like pulling handles, I always appreciate seeing alternatives. It’s cool to see ways you’re using polymer clay for ceramics.
Hey Ali. Im glad you like it. Thanks so much for your support and for watching.
I enjoyed this as well!! I was bedridden for many many years and the only clay I could play with was polymer clay as I would get very tired very easily and could leave it out and it wouldn’t dry out. It was soo wonderful still being able to do clay.
@@micheledickey4066 Oh no, Michele. Im so sorry to hear about your health problems but am glad you are back at it. Bless your heart.
Ann, you are truely brilliant! I have tons of polymer clay! Yeah, it’s my other passion! Thank you so much!
Hi Scrapqueen. Awesome!! I like to keep the polymer clay around too. I have used it for so many helpful ways.
Thank you for sharing! I CAN pull a handle. I hate that I can't seem to do it without making a MASSIVE mess. Alternatives are welcome... 😂
Hey Em. You are so right. Flinging water is always the worst part haha. Thanks as always for your support.
Do you mean, when your whole sleeve gets wett and the water is running down to your ellbow?
@@nadjabierbaum8136 Down the elbows I can handle and prep for. Generally, I'm more bothered that the clay-water flings all OVER the place: floor, table, me, my studio buddies... THEY are a true pain to clean. 🤣
With a hollow handle do you need a steam release tiny hole for firing?
Not really...not enough to really make it a problem (in my experience)
thank you i have lots of polymerclay
Hi Corry. Awesome. Go for it. Thanks for watching!
This is great! I will definitely use these ideas
Awesome!! Im glad you are inspired!
Your use of clay molds is genius!
Aww...thanks so much Sally!!
Thank you! So excited to try a couple of these!
Hi Margot. That is great. thanks so much for watching.
On pulling a handle, I watched Hsinchuen Lin teaching a mentally challenged young man, once he made the carrot he would flatten it first before pulling. I tried it and it cuts the time in half on pulling the handle and cuts the amount of water used.
great tip Lin is the master!
Great ideas!!! Thanks very much!
Hey Dan. Awesome!! thanks so much for watching.
❤
Thanks so much Joyce!! We really appreciate that!!
Thanks!
Thank you Michele (again) - looks like your up for ANOTHER promotion at the LSP Research Facility! You're the best!
@@LittleStreetPottery AWESOME! It’s been a loooong time since I’ve had a promotion. You don’t really get those working for yourself. Maybe I should just give myself one once in a while. Hahah.
@@micheledickey4066 You sure deserve it!
@@annruel1982 aaw thank you.
