I fly YYC > London frequently. I had no prior bias for either WJ or AC as I’m not from Canada. Over time, WJ has become my preferred. I find the AC cabin very stark and sterile, it reminds me of a hospital. I also find the AC crew generally unfriendly and snippy (with exceptions of course). I find the WJ biz cabin cozy and the crew are always so friendly and warm. Personal preference, but I’m always happy when work books me on WJ and not AC.
its wild the last 3 videos generally searching nothing to do with Calgary are 3 separate people flying to Calgary who all love aviation haha I think there are far more enthusiasts for planes in Calgary than I have met anywhere else. and for those who love passenger planes not just jets or something! enjoyed it just felt like sharing!
Thank-you for not being obnoxious like every other business class reviewer !! Your the best. And this was sent first time watching the WestJet one so not that late to the game. Not as late as me atleast lol
I love these videos Sanspotter. I loved the pros and cons in this video. I haven't really flown with air Canada or West jet but it seems to be really good! The only only one I've flown with was easyJet and Norwegian Airlines since I live here in Europe. But great video!
Thanks Justin! I actually wish we had EasyJet here in the US - I really enjoyed the flight I had with them and I look forward to doing it again (eventually).
Just flew them, worst customer service ever! Changed flights without telling me, the ticketing agent told me I missed my flight that was 4 hours away. Then walked away without answering my questions. When I called them i got a very rude lady telling me it's my fault I did not call sooner as they switched me to a delta flight, after telling her it's their job to email me if there are changes and she said "I am telling you now" I will never fly with this joke of an airline.
Took this round trip YYZ-BCN and it is a superior product over Air Canada’s. Better food and better service to boot. I can give you two cons you can add to this though: 1. The bulkhead window seat footwells are not well aligned with the seat angle. When fully lie flat, the leg close to the fuselage will be pushing against the fuselage. I had 1K and 2K booked both ways to compare and it is consistent across two diff aircraft. Avoid the bulkhead seats! 2. This product is very difficult to book over Air Canada’s! In both miles and points context and the little routes with 787 operating, as much as I’d like to book it more often, it’s harder than I’d like it to be.
I believe now WestJet is making YYC their main hub for all their international flights. I've seen they have cancelled some of their YVR long haul flights. They also have new service out to Japan from YYC which I may take and try it. I've always tried to avoid Air Canada on international flights which I prefer to take other carriers with a better product. Maybe one day you can try out one of their new routes long haul? Thanks for the video review! cheers!
Hi Scott. Like you I hate those tinted windows...I much prefer old fashioned blinds. And as for the loo.....well, it might be a "wide-bodied plane"...but that ain't no "wide-bodied loo" !!!🤣
Thanks! Yes, I was just thinking the other day that it might be time to return to Hawaii. And even though I do want to see what Southwest Airlines is like out to the islands, it’s not exactly something I’m looking forward to. 😬😄
Con: WS has stopped delivery of their remaining 787s so they will operate only 7 of them. They've also consolidated all their intercontinental flights to operate only out of YYC as they really want to turn YYC as their main hub base. To essentially give up long hauls from YVR and YYZ is just unfortunate.
I’m still scratching my head about that one as well. I have a feeling that could change though. Things move fast in this industry, and they will adapt to whatever is working best.
They will still fly 787 intercontinental flights out of YVR seasonally. The press release said they are consolidated to the west, but not YYC exclusively.
I would never subject you to a Spirit Airlines review. That's just cruel! Pro/Con review. Pro as it was your usual great review....Con, what were they thinking on that bathroom? LOL This is the kind of stuff most travel reviewers don't focus on, the domestic travel outside the US. We know it happens, we can't all be flying LHR to ORD...right?
Flying out of YYC for WS 787 is the best as their flagship lounge is located there, better than AC / other options. Great review, thanks for sharing! I personally like the small cabin of Westjet and the colours better than AC / US legacy
It's unfortunate about the lounge...a good quality lounge is an essential part of the true business class experience. On board, I didn't care for their dinnerware or the presentation of the meal, although the meal did look delicious. The Asian carriers nail the presentation of the meal and I have yet to see a western carrier that can compete with ANA, Japan, Eva, Singapore, Cathay, etc...in this area. Another area western carriers need to drastically step up is in hospitality. Again, the Asian carriers normally have very gracious hosts whereas the service from western carriers is generally far more crass.
Totally agreed - this wasn’t even close to the type of service you’d get on an Asian airline. Flying home from Asia and connecting to a US airline is the worst. Like a completely different world. 😩😅
There is a newer 2nd lounge in the terminal with a great view that he missed. Also, this was WestJet's domestic business class service; which is the same service as their premium economy. Business class service on their intercontinental flights is little more refined; th-cam.com/video/yTCVnB9gLNM/w-d-xo.html
WestJet has its own "WestJet Elevate" lounge in Calgary that is better than the Plaza Premium lounges. Before COVID they were planning to build those out in Toronto and Vancouver. Since COVID that looks to be on hold and they have moved all the 787 to flying out of Calgary.

I feel like your trip reports are possibly the most well done and put together of those of TH-cam.
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying them. 👍🏻
Welcome to Calgary! Thanks for flying WestJet again :)
Thanks (and you’re welcome) JayJay!
Fun fact, eating a bowl of rocks would actually be good for your digestive system. Dinosaurs use to do it back in the day to aid in digestion.

Awesome video as always! I’m so glad you were able to try WestJet’s 787!
Thanks! I’m glad to have been able to scratch it off my list as well.
Pearson's WiFi is... fine. At T1 it can be kinda slow, but as someone who uses it almost everyday, it's pretty safe

Great video as always! I flew this exact aircraft in the exact same seat from DUB-YYC back in August! I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!
Very cool that we had the same seat! I’m jealous that you got to try it on such a long flight. 👍🏻

Absolutely fantastic video Scott! Also, Chris from The Jazz Guy 13 has had the exact opposite experience with WestJet timeliness!😹
Thanks! I knew there had to be at least one person. 😄
Looks like great inflight service. Nice video!
Thanks Colin! Yeah, it was pretty nice.
You’ve inspired me to try different airlines on my work trips using JetBlue for my next trip out of Orlando
Hope it goes well Archie! JetBlue is a great airline, but their route network is lacking compared to others.

Yep, narrow body loos on widebody aircraft should be illegal. I’d sign a petition for that! 😄
FYI: Terminal 3 has another lounge with a great view
That was nice! What about a Southwest San Diego-Honolulu non-stop? Wondering why no meal service on these flights..........
Thanks! Yes, I was just thinking the other day that it might be time to return to Hawaii. And even though I do want to see what Southwest Airlines is like out to the islands, it’s not exactly something I’m looking forward to. 😬😄
Have you flown Air Transat to the UK? If so, what are your views of the trip?
Scott, has West Jet found themselves back in San Diego yet???? Great video and presentation.
Great video as always. How is the food compared to Air Canada?
Thanks Jackson! It’s about the same as far as I can tell.
Hey Scott are you going on the inaugural flight to Dubai with United via Newark?
Nope, sounds like fun but I won’t be on it.
Another great video would love to see more👍
Thanks Jeremy! There is indeed more on the way…
Great video like always
Thank you!
Hey Scott, Spirit Airlines just unveiled all new seats. You should try those! 😉
I’m just gonna pretend I didn’t hear that. 😆
Jeb Brooks just came out with a video and stated he wants to meet up with you in San Diego!
I haven’t seen that yet! I’ll definitely check that out…
I still prefer Air Canada but this is pretty good for a domestic flight as well.

Man that Sheraton Hotel looks run down...
It’s not so bad on the inside - they’ve done a really good job keeping it up to date.
Westjet is partner with various FFP's, like for example Flying Blue. So you will be able to earn/burn your award and status miles on Westjet.
True, but I tend to find more value with Star Alliance for the type of flying I do. But yes WestJet does have some good partnerships in place.
Is this Kevin Trinkle?

They will, soon. Starting this spring WestJet will fly YYC-NRT and there is plans for a YYC-DXB as well.
