The country was preparing for general elections to hangover to civilian status when Rawlings came from no where to interrupt it . Those of you saying without Rawlings this country would not be what it is , listen to Mr. Nyamekye careful b4 you judge .

Adomako Nyamekye is asserting the Army was doing ok at the time; a far cry from what we have been hearing being propagated. If the army was doing ok then, what was the basis for junior ranks to rise and stage a mutiny? Was it just for the fun of it, obviously not. We have to hear the whole truth and not allow personal sentiments to cloud our judgements. Or perhaps, life was good for you at the time but that may not necessarily be a reflection of the overall state of the army at the time.

Nana Adomako Nyamekye did not tell us the reasons behind the June 4 uprising and why it had massive support from the Junior Officers in the Military as well Ghanaians. Because of the high level of "kalabule" in the country - high price of goods and services - the whole country was shouting, " let the blood flow." Just before the coup, it was the " chit system" that was in operation. This is where only the influential people had access to the everyday necessities of life at control price and then sell it to the ordinary Ghanaian at exorbitant prices. The hardship in Ghana under the Acheampong / Akuffo regime is more severe than what we see in Venezuela right now. Venezuelans are lucky to receive aid from overseas, Ghanaians did not receive aid from anywhere. That is when the brain-drain in Ghana started. Our lectures and doctors had to go to Nigeria for greener pastures. I don't support coup d'etat and the killings but I think the regimes of AFRC / PNDC liberated Ghanaians. I feel extremely sorry for those who lost their lives but I believe June 4 is worth celebrating.

    • @patrickp6676

My brother, I don’t share your views. Rawlings came to power, and he and his group looted the nation for over 2 decades. He imprisoned and shot many people for having 50 Cedis. Today he has millions of cedis. The atrocities Rawlings committed in Ghana is the only single bloodshed Ghana has ever witness. 4th June must be abolished. We, Ghanaians should rather remember all those who lost their lives including the judges that were killed and burned. Rawlings must also answer to the pastor who was killed and burned in Kejetia. Rawlings should shut up.

@@patrickp6676 Do you hate the man Rawlings? What are the beacons of freedom and democracy doing in Venezuela 🇻🇪? The United States and the European Countries want to overthrow a constitutional elected incompetent government of Venezuela. Do l support it? Yes, l do support the beacons of democracy. Is the Venezuelan Government democratically elected? Yes, the government is democratically elected. Then why are Western Governments trying to overthrow it? It's because the Venezuelans are suffering. Are the Venezuelans economic conditions better than Ghana's under Acheampong /Akuffo regimes? Ghanaians suffered more than Venezuelans. If Acheampong had won the Union Government elections, would the economic conditions have improved? No, with Acheampong still ruling Ghana, every Ghanaian would have sojourned to Nigeria. Please be fair to all human beings. Just as the Venezuelans need help from the beacons of freedom and democracy to overthrow the Maduro Government, so did Ghanaians need help at the time.

I disagree with him partly on the point that the economy was fine. No ! It wasn't, hence the terms kalabule, control price and it's associate abuses of mokola women and the destruction thereof that gave birth to Rawlings Park. The economy was a bit better of for the higher ranking officers of the military courtesy of the SMC 2. In principle June 4th was an impulsive eruption that led to horrific excesses.

My very question on the whole coup was that there was a gap between the poor and the rich as it was the main aim of the coup leadership . Have the country achieved that? If the answer is no then I will conclude that the 4 June coup was useless and baseless. In Europe here every worker uses a car irrespective of his position. The difference is the type of car the rich may use. Rawlings coup achieved nothing but rather escalated what he came to meet. He is now richer than those he killed.
