I don't like the concept of the grading fee being tied to the estimated price of the coin after grading. It's one thing if the customer says not to slab an item if the coin doesn't reach a certain grade. That's fine, because it's the customer's decision. But to charge a percentage of the final estimated value introduces a conflict of interest. The higher they grade the coin, the higher their fee. They should just establish a flat rate for the grading service, depending on what the customer orders. The rate could vary by type of coin, but there should be no extra incentive to grade a coin higher in order to increase their fee.

      @Rob_Fordd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

On the other hand it is also in the companies interest to keep the population of their high scores lower on coins so the population of those grades will be worth more on the market. Especially now with modern coins where A LOT of stuff ends up with 69 when a larger number of 70s would be more honest.

These gradings have become merely a way to attach higher asset value to an item. It’s become a way to turn your money into a value-retaining asset so as to keep ahead of inflation. Same with things like valuable baseball cards, or works of art, anything. So the grading cert has become a sort of “hey now it’s worth more permanently.”
And yes, it is 100% by definition a conflict of interest.

John Larson It is scary! This is a great looking coin. But, if you send a really high value coin. You're going to pay dearly for a high grade.
I want my top coins graded. But, the cost would be more than I paid for my property.
      I don't like the 1% fee and extras. I feel like it's gouging customer's.
A grade is grade, why is ok to take fee because you have a nice coin?
Personally, I'm in to conserving the coins. I don't really care if the sell or not! So, if I send a coin in to be graded, and it cost more than 10 acres of land!
I'm buying the land & the coin stays in our collection.
As well the grading companies don't get into details that much.
I'm just not sold on grading. Because, of the extra fees for nothing!
But, that is a beautiful coin, I feel it was still 68.
      Just my personal opinion.
      Love what Daniel does! 👍

@@jamiross7816 yeah, I love Daniel too, he's the greatest. Since you brought it up. I have this 1959 Philly nickel that I came across recently, no exaggerations here at all, it has gorgeous striations on the obverse and six full steps. It even has the outer steps are four full complete steps. It's almost proof like in appearance literally. The coin has two small Nicks on the entire coin it's as unscathed as almost a proof coin, but my fear is having it graded, because I don't know how they'll treat me being a non dealer. I compared the coin against everything graded by PCGS in all years it's easily a MS67 + but I feel they could curse me with some kind of 66 or 66 + grade. Which is literally a $7,000 difference, and like you said, why should I be screwed if I even got the high grade to pay some stupid 1% fee. But I really have to get this coin photo graded because the striations look terrific under digital photography. Thanks for listening.

      @jamiross7816 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

John Larson I here you. The nicks might take it down for sure. They could send back as damaged.
That would not be uncommon. Because, they look at everything. It could also just be bag markes that don't really matter that much.
On a coin Like that I would send. It be worth it.
I would most likely send to ANACS personally.
What I have issue with is that you pay the membership for PCGS, and it doesn't matter if it's top membership or lower entry level.
You will still pay that 1% service charge.
On all high value coins. On coins under 10g it's possible to make a profit.
But, when you are dealing with high end coins. It's not easy to recover that money.
We have large collection. About a 10th of it is extra high grade.
So, I can't afford to have all of the graded.
As well my brother buys graded coins, at below market value.
He never pays more than 1/3 value & he doesn't have any problems doing it.
So, why should we pay full price and take the risk, when we can get them for 1/3 of the cost already graded.
He has a broker that continually solicits PCGS coins, and he buys them.
Then holds them for 5 year's & doubles his money.
So, I think it's a disservice for grading companies to charge a sur charge on coins.
In my opinion, it's about conserving or preserving coins.
I look at the service charge as gouging!
I know that they can be acquired under market value.
But, hear what your saying. I have the same issue's.

Thank you for sharing your experience with crossing your coin to another coin grading service. I'm just curious...what did ANACS charge you to grade the coin originally? It's like PCGS took over the coin grading business from the other 2 and people are only trusting them for a grade that will make them more money. Seems that everyone is having their coins re-graded by them because of their grading scale and reputation. Why do you think this has happened and can you do a video about the differences in these 3 companies. Great informative video of your personal experience.

To me this is just another PCGS horror story. Someday before I die I would love to hear a LEGITIMATE explanation of why an ANACS 68 is (apparently) inferior to a PCGS 68. This most recent example of inequity only goes to reinforce the myth that we should be more interested in the name on the slab than the actual grade of the coin! It's ridiculous. And is NGC inferior too? We'd be hard pressed not to believe it. Yet, not long ago, PCGS took no responsibility (as far as I know) for returning PR DCAM70 silver eagles with milk spots all over them, ruining their overall brilliance and appearance. Nobody wants them -- at least nobody I know. -- I sure don't want them! How happy would you be to send your NGC or ANACS graded PR70 Ultra Cam for crossover to PCGS and get it back as 69DCAM with milk spots on it? There's no getting away from the issue: buyers are actually paying more money for PCGS slabs. It's as if all the graders at ANACS, NGC and ICG are morons. For years I have suspected that something very unethical is going on. I can't prove it. It's just one story (like this one) after another, and after another. Daniel's is just the most recent -- and he's too decent a guy to complain too loudly; so, I'm doing it for him. LOL -- Something's rotten in Denmark, and someday the truth is going to come out.

PCGS has nice, slim and crystal clear slabs than blurry hard plastic ANACS cases. Moreover, ANACS charge lesser fees than PCGS and once a while $10 for each USA coin grading promotion. PCGS in Orange County California where ANACS at Colorado. The turn around time and shipping base on your return address and research time. But for the cost and not super rare coins I have. I choose ANACS, and this company has conservation service professionally clean some of your dirty old US 1912 and Indian pennies with Abt $30 fees. But the grade will not print "cleaned" to devalue the coins.

I want to buy coins not holders. I think ANACS is the only grading service that is reasonably priced. PCGS is out of control for what it charges. I wouldn't send anything there to be graded, and I still examine the coin, no matter what holder says. NGC, PCGS and ANACS do have strict guidelines for there holders, but ANACS is much more affordable for the same service.

Great find and you deserve the find because you work hard and proved an earlier video of yours on dipping. I recently saw a video sponsored by a popular grading company where the message was "friends don't let friends clean coins". This is all done because the grading companies want us submitters to pay for restoration, what a joke. You exposed this fallacy as you displayed you simple method for "restoring" high grade coins. It seems like the professionals are afraid to let the truth me known on cleaning, except for you of course. Due to ANACS's rise in popularity it would not surprise me if the top two graders most always drop the ANACS grades a point to make it look like they are not competent. My favorite Peace dollar is a MS65 graded by ANACS that you sold me at a discounted price. As always great video and hopefully your dad is still feeling fine, may you and yours be blessed with good health.

I will go ahead and ask Daniel. Since PCGS graded you 2 grades lower from the NCG grade of 68 (67+, 67), should I assume that all NCG coins are potentially over graded and pay for coins one/two grades less in NCG holders? If PCGS or other graders dont say why, I'd that not what you are paying for....a professional grade?

    • @CoinHELPu

Auctions are crazy and unpredictable, 2 collectors with money in a bidding war can scew price discovery just like an uneducated gallery can . Society needs many more collectors for the numbers to start to be dependable. Every silver stacker will eventually become a numismatic collector..... that's why everyone should promote stacking as an investment strategy, you'll get more collectors , bigger auctions, higher prices with more dependable outcomes
